  • Guy sounds like mandar from dextors laboratory

  • This was 2008. in Tron Legacy they should've used this!, I could totally tell that the father was animated!

And it's 2011 now almost 2012 and video games and movies still look pretty fake.

  • Hello there, other side of the uncanny valley!

watch watch?v=FKTAJBQSm10 for more info :)

  • lmfao @ JULESWORLD.

  • thats amazing by 2012 we gone see video games that look like movies

  • movie actors your days are numberd lol

  • Mandark haha

  • Oh god, to think that one day this technology will be so cheap it'll be useable in pornography - GLORIOUS!

  • LOL

  • One of the first utilisation will be porn.

    Like everything.

    First, Military

    Then Public use

    Then Porn use.

  • But why would they want to do this for the cinema??? if its gonna looks so real why cant it just infact be REAL? like how movies should be made... huh

I can understand how this tech will be great for Video Games though! but i just dont understand it for movies thats all

  • Right now it seems pretty stupid, as they seem to need the actors to still act but within the dome, so why not just make them act without cgi costs?

But once the technology has advanced actors won't be needed, directors will be able to create the parts that fit there films perfectly, which is really good.

It would save a lot of money in the long run, especially now, when big actors and actresses get paid 10 million +

  • Agreed. This is all so ANTI filmmaking

  • Because transformers AREN'T real and needs to be rendered on computers?

  • God, just imagine modeling a 3d model, and clicking "render" and it being done immediately...

  • This guy sounds like Mandark from Dexter's lab.

  • no you didn't. You're right!

  • y is dis up side down

  • ooh nice..............

  • That demo is probably running at 15fps to render a facial animation and is utilizing most of the 4870x2's gpu power..i doubt we'll see actual games with this level of realism for a few years yet.

  • If they collect the higher level data AAA games could be re-released when hardware supports with very little work.

A game made from high level data sets could simply be recompiled and re-sold at a later date... think of the possibilities.

  • once capture the animation can't be changed. So this technology has a big problem

  • The cg girl at 6:11 is absolutely insane!!!

You could put her arguing with Davy Jones and she would look better.

I can't wait for people to snap and say "Oh! It isn't real??"

For a while I was fooled by Davy Jones, and I thought it was a mask.

I can't wait for the stuff that this technology will give us now.

  • Its insane because thats not 3D, its actually an image format that has so much data

per pixel , that can then be re lit in realtime, but only the original video.

You cannot rotate or animate this.

Still damn cool tech... Paul Debevec rocks!

  • The movements were captured in a lightstage and, I suppose, the dataset was put into a computer. After that I guess they could animate. they say it was CG rendered.

Image Metrics allows animators to tweak and polish after they have the dataset.

I'm no expert and I would like to know what is happening there.

  • You're right, as he said, it's a volumetric render. It's not an 'image format'.

You can rotate it and perhaps he should have done so to take the point home, but nevertheless he made it clear.

  • this will work on near future consoles.

  • I want this demo!

  • Ok -- Part 2 is now live.

  • For some reason, Part 2 didn't upload correctly. Pilot error I'm sure. I am reloading it now.

  • am i right in saying that everything we just saw was running in real time on a ATI 4870 X2 GPU?

So we will be playing games in real time with those kind of photo realistic graphics?

If so that is absolutely amazing

I really would like to see Part 2 uploaded soon

  • Two HD 4870 GPUs to be exact.

  • where's part 2 of 2?

  • I was about to ask the same thing. I can't seem to find it on here.

  • RAY TRACING with RASTERIZATION beyondHD TrueCinematics

  • So do i...

  • I want those demos :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

  • Most interesting.
