  • i think you made a mistake in the description. you say it runs faster with fraps then without.

  • @MaxC0mpTips Yep, thanks for letting me know m8 :)

  • This is the processor for me. I had a look at the 955 Quad core BE processor and for paying more, you got nothing out of it. and to make it worse, its a stubborn processor to overclock, unlike this tri core that is a beast!!

long live tri cores with the potential to out power quad cores!!

but to be honest im not suprised, most things dont even use 4 cores..let alone the 6cores that have been released, its ridiculous!

  • I just bought the x3 740 BLACK EDITION and was wondering how much of an overclock i could do with a very nice but cheap Hyper 101a cpu cooler. Do you think i can do 3.6ghz easily with a ECS A785GM-M motherboard? Thanks and what cpu cooler r u using? I hope my GTX 460 likes this cpu :D

  • I like pie

  • Lower it to 2xAA, no graphical diffrence, and it also will give you extra frames per second.

  • Shame that the only way to see the true fps in action you have to use a camera. =( This looks a bit choppy but i know that capturing frames is a bitch.

Can you make a version with a HD camera if you have one?

  • @MrGrebbi It's a shame actually that I don't own one, but I have been looking into getting one for quite a while now. Will be a long time before it happens, though. :(

  • run it at 4x AA, better framerate, Same looks pretty much.

  • is the phenom II x3 720 good for gaming?? even if you unlock the 4th core?? will it bottleneck my 9600GT 512MB ??

  • @Altair19PL bottlenecking is not a factor with this CPU, unlocked core or not, it is very powerful :)

  • @d0wnfall15 What case & cooling do you have for your setup in this video??

  • @roadkill1001 At that point I was on the stock cooler but my house is always quite cold. The case was an NZXT tempest with 2 custom fans installed into the front of the case, and the rest stock fans (4 in total excluding power supply)

  • I don't plan on overclocking, so would this CPU be better than a Phenom II X2 550 at stock settings?

  • @FacnyCatFighter definitely much more bang for the buck :)

  • Would you recommend this CPU? I'm going to be getting a new computer soon and I can't decide between Phenom X3 720+aftermarket cooling or Phenom X4 955+stock cooling only (tight budget).

  • What?? i am not getting that High Frames on a 4850 1 Gb and Phenom II x4 8gb ram ...

    dx 10 or dx9??

  • @andromedarr

DX11 - In essence DX10. Don't forget that this phenom is overclocked.

  • My english is very poor... I can buy Phenom II x3 720 BE ... What memory DDR3 work in AMD Phenom II ? Kingston? Corsair? OCZ?

  • if you buy an am3 motherboard with ddr3 support you can only use an am3 cpu which is phenom ii and athlon ii no other cpu is am3 then depending on your motherboard you use ddr3 upto 2000mhz i think but a 1600mhz is more than enough but if you're on a budget get ddr3 1333mhz ...

  • read it next time it says 15-25 fps at stock settings (no overclock on cpu) I don't have a fps in there for fraps off with overclock on.

  • You got your x3 to 3.6ghz? wow, very nice. Was that on Air or Liquid cooling? I was only able to get mine to 3.4 lol

  • I can get mine to 3.8 on gigabyte board but when I go over 3.5 its overheating... I need beter cooling... On ASUS board I was able to get 3.4 max too

  • ROFL i meant not great for that game...TYPO.

  • aha. lol

  • AMD phenom is not a great processor for that card.

  • Would that be because AMD made the card as well?

  • I have a Phenom X4 9550 and an ATI Radeon HD 4850, play Crysis in 1280x1024 All High NoAA, with 30 FPS, some slowdowns. If I buy a Phenom II X3 720 BE I will see some difference? Please reply. I want to play Crysis minimum on High with 40 FPS, but really want Very High with 30 FPS, you think is impossible? my config: Phenom X4 9550 | ASUS M4A78 | 2x Kingston 2 GB DDR2-800 | Seagate 1 TB SATA II | ATI Radeon HD 4850 1 GB | C3 Tech DSA-5060V.

  • In games I doubt you would see a difference, however if you overclock it a lot, you prob will

  • I have Phenom II X4 940, HD4870 512MB, 4GB DDR2 1066 , and i get 15-29 FPS with your settings and resolution

  • Video card and CPU were both overclocked. I should have changed video description as CPU was well over 3.6ghz, just forgot to

  • If you're looking at the "very high" settings, probably would be good to invest in better Video Card, as the higher settings mostly relate to Video Processing tasks (higher textures, things like that)

  • yeah, the resolution is massive wirh aa and all that, he has overclocked his processor, too!

btw the x3 720 has 6(!) mb l3 cache which is a huge thing for 3 cores.

  • Comment removed

  • 35-40fps on enthusiast with 8xAA using a 4850?

    O_O

  • Probably ridiculously low resolution then? 1024x768 or lower (:

  • 1280x1024 on my spare monitor, close but not close enough :p

  • damn ye, lol

  • i have the exact same cpu and gfx card except mine is from diamond and i get 40-45 fps average no AA at 1024*768 =) and no lag spots!

  • nice rig! good card and cpu, im getting the xfx ati 4870 1gb ddr5 along with this cpu and i already have 2gb of ddr400 ram (equal to 4gb ddr2 in speed)

  • no every other game plays easily, HAWX all things very high including 8XAA never drops below 60 most times its lokced at 85 withhout Vsync or 75 with Vysnc, Half LIfe 2 locks at 75fps, HL2 Ep 1 and 2 lock at 160fps.

I did change some settings the game gets 35-48 fps on all gamer with 2xAA, 18-25 on enthusiast 2xAA, i guess this is normal? why i am gripping is i dont know how he can get that performance on 8XAA on a HD 4850 with the same build as mine.

  • 1280x1024 resolution. temp monitor...

  • i have windows vista eternity clack edition 64 bit. i cant install SP2 on it

  • i do have it OC to 3.4ghhz and my ram is running at 1080mhz DDR2. my card is at 700mmhz and 1200 mhz and all of this makes no difference on my computer at all. yeah wtf is going on with my build. note thjese settings are stable

  • ok so i built my rig. AMD Phenom II X3 720 2.8ghz stock with a GIGABYTE GA-MA785G-UD3H, HD 4850 512 mb, 2x2g GSkill ram at 800mhz and the most frames i get is 25 fps. I have noticed it doesnt slow with inesnse action but still i expected to be hitting 30 to 40 fps with everything on very high at a 1440x900 resolution. I am using WIndows Vista black Eternity 64bit. anyone know why i am getting poor framrates with a high clocked processor

  • what resolution is this ??? what monitor u have? :) i wanna buy this triple core procesore x3 720 or 810 to my mobo ga-m57 s4+evga 9800 gtx+ sc :) and now i must upgrade bios ;-)

  • yes, but your video card will be the bottleneck, it may not perform extremely well on higher settings or higher resolutions. It will work though.

  • What about?

    AM3 X3 720 2.8 Ghz 6MB

    ASUS M4A78-PRO

    SAPPHIRE HD4850

OCZ PLATINUM XTC 4096MB DUAL KIT 1066Mhz

    Windows Seven

With the resolution of 1280/1024 but usually I play in 1024/768 and 800/600 for max framerates

  • For the money the 720 is fantastic value. At very low resolutions the i7 is much faster, but when you start to raise the resolution to 1280 x 1040 the 720 is very close and by 1920 x 1200 it's identical or faster where the graphics card become the bottlleneck. Who plays games at 1024 x768?

  • how did u get ur 4850's mem clock to get to 2100mhz. i thought 4850s cant get that high? yo man what brand and model of ram do u use as well? i am hopefully gonna build a similar rig to urs in the very near future? do u know how this processor and gpu combo handle GTA 4?

  • The 4850 I'm using is a HIS 4850 Turbo X. They are slightly higher price than the other brands but these run extremely cool. Mine is idling at 33C and maxing 42C at full load. Very easy overclocking video card.

It definitely can handle GTA 4, no problem. I will put up a video in the near future testing this.

    -Downfall

  • yeah, mine is a Sapphire model withbuilt in hdmi and vga as well as dvi. it has this cheap cooler on it. it was 99 bucks so i jumped on it. guess i should have spent a lil bit more on a HIS X Turbo. mine goes up to 67C playing Crysis for 35 mins, dunno why. and the max my mem clock can go is 1200mhz and max core clock is 700mhz

  • oh dont worry then, with ATI overdrive, it says that the memory clock is 1200mhz but in actual fact is it double that. Mine is set to 1100mhz and comes out as 2200mhz on the real card rating on GPU-Z.

  • seems like i need to get CPU Z. so does this mean that the core clock can been OC to higher livels than 700mhz the limit by ATI Overdrive.

  • oh btw what resolution are u playing this on, i still cant get this performance at 1440x900

  • 1280x1024 on temp monitor.

  • I got my HIS 4850 512mb Turbo for $99 in newegg on a weekend, The max temp I have seen it get was playing Oblivion, it got to 65C with the fan at 7%. I forgot to adjust the fan manually, it was doing it automatically.

  • yeah i bought mine like two months ago, maybe three now. it was the same price. the Ice turbo was higher in price then.

  • Right on! I've had my 720 for a little over a month now, the best money I've spent in a long time ^^

  • did u overclock or unlock it? if u can unlock it and its stable u get a quad core cpu for 120 bucks:]

  • That's true, but don't want to risk ruining it, plus I've seen a couple benchmarks, not that much for a performance increase over stock. And yea, overlocked to 3.3Ghz on air, that's very stable :)

  • haha dayum! My setup is so similar 2 yours. Same chipset, same CPU, same RAM, same harddrive but am stuck with a sucky 9800gt and 470watt power supply =(

  • U arent stucky :D

Ur 9800gt is almost the same 4850 :p

U only need to spend on 600W power suply and u will run this game on 40fps

  • Nah man, the Radeon 4850 owns the Geforce anyday! Was kinda hoping 2 get the 4770. Environment-friendly gamer ^^

  • @walliot My GEFORCE GTX 460 owns the 4850 anyday :)

  • nice!! I have Phenom II X3 720 @ 3.0 GHz, Asus M4A78-E 790GX, 2 GB ddr2 @ 1066 MHz, XFX 512 HD4850, Seagate 500 GB 32 MB, OCZ 600w.

  • and Samsung 20" @ 1680x1050 :D

  • Hehe sorry for askin so many questions, but what connector do you use with your 17'' and your 4850? Theres so many dif. types of cables idk which one is correct

  • VGA, although if you have the option of using DVI (The white connector), use that. :)

  • wat cpu fan are u using

  • stock, runs cool enough, used arctic silver 5 though

  • hey what resolution are you playing at?

  • 1280 x 1024, my widescreen monitor broke, so i'm stuck with a 17".

  • Nice! My new PC that is on the way has the II X3 720 :)

  • Is this in DX10 or DX9?

  • DX10

  • nice framerates bro!! did you overclock the 720?

  • sure did, its at 3.2ghz at the moment, I had it at 3.5ghz the other day but figured I didn't need that much power :P

  • ahhha very nice man!! I'm getting this cpu, but with either the ati 4870 or the 4890, it should be kickass

  • man i dont know he is managing that with 8XAA?! mine cant do that, it simply won't. my warhead is pirated so it might be why i am having a hard time getting goodd fps on a quad core ( i unlocke dit) phenom II X3 @ 3,4ghz) HD 4850

  • because I'm using 1280x1024 resolution, that allows for 8xaa, and I was using a temp monitor at the time.
