I love your videos, have been watching them all night. Question though, what are you using the Viva papertowels for and how? Can you explain for me? Is that how you get your cskes looking so smooth??? Thanks!!!
sorry to ask... but how do you make your buttercream? cause mine always turns out all weird and stuff and i can't find a good recipe on the internet :( please help me!
when your decorating the cak.. i think it's around 3:40 do you use butter cream?? cos royal icing would work heaps better for delicate stuff like that.. it's made of egg whites and icing sugar.. but you probably already know that.. so now i sound like a smart ass..
@SeriousCakes i do like butter cream.. it is very very yummy.. i do have to say.. i watch these things here on youtube so i can get tips.. but have yet to actually make a masterpiece! bought a set of 24 icing tips on ebay for $14 .. then i hurt my knee.. so now i am patiently waiting to try them out.. it'll be a good excuse to make a batch of icing for no reason but to eat it :) .. i would like to find a tutorial that tells me how to use each of my tips tho.. as i know what the star does,
@SeriousCakes ( never enough characters! ) .. but i am unsure of what my other tips do.. oh i see the 'hair' or ' grass' one.. i know what that would do.. maybe i should post a video.. :)
@tracylv68 Hi there, I'm not fond of cc bouquets, they're not easy to transport! But a friend of mine on here makes them, fairytalecakes, check out her video and she might be able to advise on how to transport :D
@SeriousCakes I don't know if anybody has answered your food-safe brush dilemma but I know for makeup brushes you are never supposed to wash past the metal part (where the wood handle & metal meet should stay dry). Otherwise your brushes ruin over time and rust. Hope that helps :)
I am a huge fan of yours. I was searching for good cake recipe and found your yellow cake recipe. I tried it and it came out great. After that, I was hooked, I have to watch all of your videos. It took some days to view all of them. I was kinda surprised to see that you didn't disabled comments and rating on this so after some thoughts I decided to write a comment here.
God bless you. You are an inspiration. Please do continue making such great videos with such great background music collection.
hi you really are an artist. God bless you for your great talent and thank you sooo much for sharing your videos.... i have learnt a lot from you..... keep up the good work.
Hi, thanks so much for your lovely videos they are so helpful & it's very selfless to put time & effort into helping everyone with their cakes.
Also, after viewing many of your videos it is obvious that you are somewhat of a FF fan, I have really enjoyed hearing some of the music again & seeing your comments, you are really quite witty.
I didn't think there would be too many people out there that liked both cake decorating & FF but it appears I am not alone.
lol, I am 'somewhat' of a fan, I've never played it but I watch hubby play and enjoy the story line. Plus I like the FF movies and the music. What I do play is Halo :D Not as often as I used to but I love the music from that too.
for the boxes, if i have a tall cake, i put 2 boxes together. so its taller and doesnt smush the cake, and for the paint brushes, you can buy painters paint brushes. not cake ones. i will hopefully post a video on what i use. good luck!!! love your cakes.
@fairytalecakes Hmmm, brave, you are very kind, I was thinking more like....insane! Blech, there's no way I would have come up with those colors on my own lol :D
I have the same troubles with my paintbrushes. What I've started to do and it works well is to wash them really really good and hard until the paint is forceably peeling off. I peel as much paint as I can off and sand the rest of it down. Then I use lemon oil and rub lemon oil on the handle with a paper towel. Then after every use I was and re-oil them. It's the best I've come up with so far. I hope this helps you. BTW, your cakes are GORGEOUS!
@Alycatpepper Oh my goodness, thank you so much!!! I actually have a few of those brushes that little or no paint left on them, I'll have to give it a try.
I was browsing that site you gave me, looks like they might have what I need, I'm having them send me a catalog :D
@SeriousCakes No problem at all! If you ever have any questions you can send me a message any time. I am not decorating professionally yet but have looked into every aspect needed for starting my business so I can be properly prepared. With over ten years of caking under my belt I am hoping to take the plunge soon!
@xXbodjenXx Not yet, I've had a few people ask me for a video like that but I haven't completed one yet. In general I buy all my tips from a local craft store and if I can't find what I want there then I'll go to Wilton's online store.
i love watching your videos. i just started making cakes so when i run into something im unsure of your the first place i look to for advice. keep up the great work. merry christmas
I would think moisture could get into that kind of tape, I am thinking that electrical tape might be more water resistant, or even a layer of plumber's tape before the electrical tape might work. I think they have more than one color now, but I could be wrong...if that doesn't work, duct tape might work.
@helllosunshinne I don't think any of those kinds of tapes out there would be food safe though. I use 3M magic tape to hold the foil onto the cake board but that doesn't actually come into contact with the cake.
I'd rather find some brushes that I don't have to worry about the paint chipping at all, maybe ones with plastic handles but the brushes still need to be food safe.
Gorgeous cakes. I love the birthday cake, it is sooo beautiful. For my daughter's tenth birthday yesterday, I was feeling lazy so I did something different. I made a bunch of chocolate and vanilla cupcakes. I took them to the party place unfrosted. I then provided four different color tubs of frosting, and ten containers of different toppings plus gummy worms. It was a hit. The thing that surprised me the most was that of all the toppings the miniature marshmallows was the biggest hit.
Gorgeous cakes. :) And thankyou so much. I have learned so much from you.
I go to a bakery at one of the local grocery stores and can buy a full sheet sized box for $3.00. Which is actually cheaper than what Wilton would sell it for if they sold that size.
That is awesome. I wish the places here sold them that cheap. The baking is the boring part, and the frosting is the fun part. But so far around here, it is still full price. Is the grocery store that you go to a chain one, or is it a local one that is not part of a chain? Perhaps if it is a chain I should check them out.
I forgot to post that, oops! Top tier is a 4" almond cake, middle is a combination 5" french vanilla and coconut cake, bottom tier is a 6" strawberry. All are just variations of my yellow cake :D
Love your daughters cake sooooo pretty!! Plastic paint brush handles or the unpainted wooden ones! And leftover buttercream????? Theres always a fight to 'lick the bowl' in my house, trying to store leftovers would cause a riot lol!
lol, when I first started we used to suck out the leftovers from the bags AND lick the bowl. And I gained about 7 lbs! Had to put a stop to that one :P
I know what you mean - plus I just can't eat sugar the way I used to - but my son and niece do I have to beat them off with a wooden spoon to get it on the cake first! Lol x
I've never had a problem with the brushes. Just don't let the handles get wet. When you wash them, rub the bristles with dish washing soap, rinse just the bristles and dry. If you need to clean the handle, wipe it off and dry it right away.
I Love the cake you did for your daughter....Great Job! The brushes on the other hand...I hate when my brushes peel like that.....I try to find some that have the acrylic handles....or you could coat the handles in a thin coat of wax that might help them to not peal also.
I love your videos, have been watching them all night. Question though, what are you using the Viva papertowels for and how? Can you explain for me? Is that how you get your cskes looking so smooth??? Thanks!!!
