  • I don't think it was open

  • The sign says no alcohol... *guy hands him a beer*

  • People, it's possible. My trumpet teacher let us listen to a recording of his friend playing this note (his friend wasn't able to come to our school) and it's completely possible, depending on the build of your lips and the type of trumpet you use.

  • Great stuff man! Be proud of your accomplishments!

  • i have to play the whole die fledermaus on trumpet on monday. in three fucking days. im in ninth grade. god help me.

  • PROVEN FAKE!

Friend of mine who's an expert at hitting trumpet high notes says it's obviously most likely one of the guys letting out steam from one of the pipes, notice the conspicuous so-called 'back stage' basement they're standing in, sure the echo effect sounds great and all, but clearly there is somebody in the background off-screen releasing a high pressure steam valve just as he hits that highest note, therefore this video is a FRAUD!!!

So the alleged "note" remains elusively impossible.

  • @Mormonites Lol... I told him after listening on my own system it sounds legit. The steam pipes had me wondering though... haha. He was looking it up because I actually freaked myself out last night playing a new horn I resurrected..an olds Special from '58 or like that. With a Back 10C mouthpiece I didn't press too hard for a change and hit this fairly decent G above double C!! The highest I hit was way back in the early 80's before I slacked for years. two notes lower w/ poorer tone!

  • @Mormonites Hater!

  • @Mormonites explain 0:44 - 0:46

  • after hearing this, i think i got the section in the 6th grade theory test about trumpet ranges incorrect...

  • i think i can hit it

  • retardted high

  • You rock Steve! Great, fun stuff all around!

  • lol thats where you stop bothering to count the ledger lines and play a note nobody can identify. If they don't know what you played, you must've done something right :)

  • he deserves one

  • I work with and have worked with Bob O'Donnell, Matt Fronke, Wayne Bergeron, John Faddis, Randy Brecker, Arutro Sandoval, Rick Baptist, Lou Soloff, Buddy Childers, Bobby Shew, etc... Let me tell you, Steve Reid is the real deal. HUGE sound up there. In tune. Great guy, too.

  • kudos dude

  • How high is that highest note of yours?

  • @MarcianoSR I think you'll find that's a C 2 octaves above the C with 2 ledger lines above the stave... Total mind-fuck, right? :P

  • @JazzerCL777

wtf... thats so sick :P how the hell do they manage to play so high?

  • @MarcianoSR It's all about technique, airflow and using your diaphragm (that's probably not spelt right but hey :P) I'm no expert because I can't get anywhere close to that either, my limit is probably an F above top C, but that's what I've heard. Lip trills and the like will help with range and flexibility! Keep at it, like it says in one of his videos, it's taken him 25 years! There's nothing more satisfying than blasting out a whopper of a note ;)

  • How do you hit those notes? I have trouble hitting the first C above the staff.

  • @johnmorisi8

practice makes perfect, this guy probably had LOTS of practice :P

  • im looking at buying a piccolo trumpet and im curious witch one is a good brand that isnt that going to break the bank that much can anyone help

  • I thought it was a bat

  • play higher , longer..yea!!!!!

  • i love screaming and high notes..but im not to fond of his?

  • @dreadss64 I think this was recorded on a camera phone I'm guessing. I've heard he sounds great in person and is by far one of the most incredible lead players out there. Also, take into account that it looks like he is surrounded by concrete walls :P

  • lol

  • Dude this sounds like crap but thats awesome

  • Why does every trumpet player brag and talk about high notes? I'm only 16 and I have a range of 5C(or double high C OMG! OMG!) to 5 pedal C...but I don't brag or show off because it makes me look stupid...I you want to know how...just find a method and stick to it. For me, I study with a student of Claude Gordan and have been for a several years

  • @dudepower100

C5 for trumpet is just a high C... C6 on trumpet is famous "Double C"

  • @GC2010Trumpet (C6 is what I ment.) What makes that note famouse? Its just like any other note...just up there. Just because you can play a note dosent mean anything unless you still have control.

  • @GC2010Trumpet Actually seeing as how middle C(the one just under the treble staff) is C4 double C is actually C7.

  • chad spoonman can play a triple d with good sound quality

  • lol maybe he can do it only when hes drunk

  • wow nice job! I've been playing for almost 10 years but still have trouble hitting the supr C let alone anything above it!! NICE JOB

  • Duuude ! I met this guy !

He went to the jazz festival at kennedy high school !

  • holy shat

  • do you knew wes funderberk?

  • NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES BEYOND THIS POINT lol

  • triple C wow

  • holy shit bro. what mouthpiece you use

  • 14b mouthpiece...

How shallow /small is that? I've heard of 2b and 1b. I play on a 1c back or 17d shilke.

Arturo Sandoval hits insanely high notes on a 3c, I believe; although, with a HUGE sound.

I think my lip would rip trying to hit your notes! Insane....

  • oh dear lord, that's high. The only possible way i could hit that note is by actually screaming, but seeing that i want to have a voice for the next week, i don't think i will find out. amaaazing.

  • I don't think we have ever corresponded, but I heard you are a nice guy and I would like to share some ideas with you.

  • My throat kinda cringes every time...

  • So what note is he hitting at 0:21?

  • @JD123rd He sustains a triple d, but right before that he goes to a QUAD E. AWESOME

  • orgasmic lol

  • wow that was great..... makes me feel weak.... im 13 all i can hit is a d above high c

  • highest note i've hit was the E above super C...and that was 5 years ago during marching season in high school. i could hit super c consistently but could never go much higher on my 14b mouthpiece.

i can barely hit the g below super c now =(

  • i can barely go above the staff on my trumpet! then again, i'm like, 12. lol

  • Silverfruit144 & kidznewz127 - your comments have been removed. Take your arguments elsewhere. If you continue to use this page for them, you will both be banned.

Yes, I DO read all comments.

  • @tjtrumpet how long have u been playing trumpet?

  • I MET HIM!!!! SO DAMN AWSOME! he is WAY BETTER!

  • Sounds like one of the pipes in the background have a small hole in them. You should get someone to fix that. ;D

  • I thought my tea was ready rofl. I love how these guys are chillin. Nothing brings you closer then high noted over the camp fire rofl.

  • dude....omg... what kind of mouthpiece is that... this is sick!!! (BEAST))

  • u suck

  • i can almost hit the triple C !!!!!

    man i loooove!!!! trumpet

  • yeah? well i can reach E above middle C.

  • ow... my pride. 6 years of trumpet playing just hid in fear. I don't suppose that of the hundreds of comments on this video, that i could find myself receiving any hints?

  • lol look at the sign in the back "no open alcohol beyond this point"

  • I got to see KC & The Sunshine Band play at the rodeo arena in Mesquite, Texas not too long ago and Steve Reid is an absolutely AMAZING TRUMPET PLAYER!!! I play the french horn at Ralph H. Poteet High School in Mesquite and I have never heard any of our trumpets hit anywhere NEAR that high! Keep rocking with KC, Steve!

  • No!

  • good job.... but flat.

  • Is the beer teasty? :-)

  • that is nothing like playing trumpet, that is wrong, it's just blowing into the trumpet!

  • no shit sherlock

  • Did you actually read the description? He was just messing around, trumpet players do that from time to time, haha.

  • at 0:08 he flipped me off :(

  • at :46, is he just using his right hand to push the horn harder onto his face or is it some kind of weird technique?

  • He's just shaking the horn to make the note shake. He's not pressing it into his face any harder.

  • ok, thanks for the help

  • @NSSpikes he's just messing with the water key

  • how do you do that. i mean i play the trumpet but all i can get to is a f above the staff on a good day

  • is that even a note?

  • its just scream

  • wow your a cool player, no strain, great control!

  • the point is that when he makes unreconisable whistles he has a better range than the trumpet does, so kudos to him

  • jonathangipaya - your comment has been removed and you have been blocked.

  • I've seen this video app 100 times and now I've bought myself a trumpet ;-)

  • awesome, just read the description lol he must have lips of steel

  • that aint no notes its just noise!!!!!

  • @ayrtoncs89 i agree. you can only play so many high notes that it just becomes noise.

  • @ jkim519,

This is how both you and ayrtoncs89 become completely ignorant and seduced to narrow-mindedness.

  • Thank GOD I can't do that!!!!!!!

  • Ahh!

  • That is just freakish. There are techniques for playing high but THAT cant be taught.

  • Good Job(hands him a beer!) lol NICE!!!! :)

  • ahaha props for beig able to keep the note without holding the fingering that s high level trumpet plaing haha!

  • This is the best comment on a youtube video i have ever seen!!!! hahaha

  • Saw you on Conan O'Brian Thursday night with the Brian Setzer Orchestra. Good stuff and kick as tune with a reggea, hip hop, soul, funky, rock billy feel.

  • What is it with trumpet players and their off the charts high notes.Hell,I couldn't read it if I saw it.How about playing something musical?

  • its a trumpet thing ahah!

  • I know..I'm just jealous.

  • yuh huh...

  • Comment removed

  • cuantuple C?? Must be the metric system..

  • ill post a video showing how good i am

  • hahaha im not surprise ur 11, 11 year olds tend to say things and when they grow older they realized what they said was stupid XD

  • he would make a great soprano cornet player in a brass band!

  • Hey mrtrmpetman, I'm one of those "idiots"! lol

  • isnt amazing what happens when ya combine a handful of idots a trumpet and beer?? lol

  • it actually means from beyond the point when they open that door lol

  • does anyone notice the sign in the back that says no beer? lol and what are they doing? thats fantastic

  • jeez...

  • MHSRULES12, I have removed your post because it contains wrong, misleading and incomplete information. I will continue to police all posts and remove any that I feel do not support this video or that, as in your post, point people in the wrong directions. Post what you want, but I will police this thread.

  • ow thats gotta f****n hurt like hell

  • Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh so SICK!!!!!! AMAZING!!

  • damn

  • i knew that technically speaking the trumpet was a rangeless instrument but to be able to go that high is just incredible i struggle with anything over an octave above the stave line

  • i want to play that high

  • HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!! Thats is amazing!!!

I can olny play to high F

  • can you make a video on helping to hit the high notes

  • A-FREAKING-MAZING

  • wow he can ply a double d so comfortably even with one hand.

  • you need to READ THE TEXT / DESCRIPTION of the video BEFORE posting negative comments such as this. this was all done just for FUN and was not meant to impress ANYONE. Retract your statement or it will be removed.

  • Haha.. or it will be removed... how cute.

    What a show-off.

  • holy crap man thats insane. sounds like tea is ready ya know?

  • terry i see your point but that is a little blasphemic

  • Whats notes does he play at 0:34 that little tune?

  • D major triad

    G major triad

    C# to D

  • What was that first note, a triple C or a double C?

  • The very first note is a high D (D above high C). The 2nd note is a double D.

  • awesome!

  • Terry, Emperor & Kid - you three play nice or I will delete your comments. This is your first and only warning.

  • Damn good. Although its not hard to get that high. I've done it countless times.

  • lets see it buddy.

  • would if i could. i dont have a cam, guy. sorry.

  • no proof equals you can't do it. Sorry, guy.

  • no proof Jesus healed and raised the dead. Think HE didn't do it?

  • Nope.

  • you really want me to answer that?

  • Holy s@$t!

  • I bet he had a horrible hangover... in his lips xD

  • i think arturo sandoval can play up there too. he has some crazy high notes but has a fuler sound so im sure if he crammed into his face and went all airy he could play that high too. also read about wayne bergeron. his first note was a tripple c

  • all that high stuff sounds really airy, like he needs to use that air and get a fuller sound. or not, i probly dont even know what im talking about

  • Fourth High B!!!!!

  • wow!!dis is amazing...lol

  • lol i play trumpet but im better at playing low notes

  • That tuning slide key change trick at 0:45 was awesome in drum corp days back when valves were banned.

  • lmfao thats funny

  • 0:27 awkward moment...

  • yeah I laughed at that too

  • I bet dogs hate him

  • lol

  • lol...your a little flat

  • He uses beer. He's like machine. That's not human. But, incredible.

  • He´s Bender

  • I remember you when you played in Maynard's Band

  • i like the sign that says no alcoholic beverages, and the guy drinking a beer at 0:18

  • it says beyond that point (behind the door)

  • HAHAHAHA

  • Smokin' bro! Dave

  • If he could play high notes, I'd think he's good. Not to sound like a dick, but there was nothing but air with the overtone of a pitch.

  • lol...amazing

  • 0.0 thats way to high. if i ever played that note (the highest one) id just leave band practice and never come back.....EVER

  • what note was the highest one??

  • I think it was triple high C but he fingered it 1-3. probably to fix any tuning errors that come from playing that high

  • it was a squeak

  • I wanna see you even squeak that loud...

  • i cant. i can hit a screamer g really loud though. but i dont have the chops like him....yet lol

  • excellent, what force.. greetings from chile, south america
