  • Whitout any doubt he is GOD! 1:46-1:50 his signature! Only him would played that in that way!!

  • Superb playing as expect by Heifetz. Shame about the picture.

  • This video would have been better without the crayon drawings.

  • They Shall Have Music.... absolutely obsessed.

  • bravooooo!!!!

  • I <3 HEIFETZ'S SHIFTS! ITS SO CAPRISSOSSSOOOO!!!

  • amazing violinist and composer.....

  • Fabulous and wonderful !!!

    Many thanks,

    Al

  • whats with those lines in the pictures? :P

  • Only Heifetz! How absolutely marvelous. I just sent it to my friens

  • Yes....I listened to this on AOL/Truvea (?), with the full-length movie "They Shall Have Music. It's a wonderful movie about NY kids/"thugs"growing up, a stolen Strad and the love of music.

  • @outoftunefiddler OMG that's the best movie EVERRR!! :D

  • @Coolcat607 glad you liked it!!!!! rock on!

  • Rondo Capriccioso was my favorite "song" when I was about seven and just starting school. Good times.

  • What is really shameful is that most kids today don't have a clue as to what good quality music is. Sadly, like so many other things in our culture, music is media driven! I'm so glad I grew up in a time when kids at least were exposed to the classics and had opportunity to listen to it.

  • omg I found a old french copy of this for violin and piano, seemingly printed around 100 years ago, in a charity shop this afternoon. The price: £2.99. I didn't hesitate to buy it and I know my neighbours may get a little irritated tonight as I attempt to practice it!

  • I think I am in love with this *piece*

  • because it truly a piece, or work of art.

  • I think I'm in love with this song...

  • bravo!

  • Stunning! A wonder of the world. My dad, a professional violinist, and I used to sit and listen to this together in his waning years, and he would say, "I think we'll listen to that one again, what do you think?" So I'm going to listen to it again right now :)))

  • @LilSilverstone

Very touching comment! Obviously your father appreciated fine art!

  • The Macabre Dance is better.

  • one of the most beautiful pieces I've ever heard, thanks so much for the upload (and thanks, mom, for raising me on classical--my favorite growing up was vivaldi, I played the hell outta that CD, lol)

  • Superb! TY

  • KING!!!

  • Can see merit in @calloffthedogs and @DustinHahnMusic comments. i too think Heifetz will never be forgotten as long as people admire the violin and its repertoire. But, sadly, it will always be a very small percentage of the population.

  • Heifetz pwns

  • I`m ready to listen it always.... Thank you

  • This is true art! I love it!

  • I'm In love......

  • An Absolutely Delightful Performance - The Video And The Pictures Are Highly Creative - Tks :)

  • This has to be the pinnacle of violin playing. It reminds me of when I used to sit with my dad as a 3 yr old listening to Ruggiero Rici's version of this from the 60s. This will always be my favourite piece of Classical music, thank you for posting it!

  • imagine if he was your violin lessons teacher..weepeee

  • @caihongsky Heifetz tought the violinist who taught my teacher. And even my teacher is an incredible violinist, especially considering he's over 80 years old now.

  • @frankzappas1guitar ur so lucky

  • Beautiful music and beautiful performance.

  • Amazing amazing amazing. <3

  • Heifetz...........the Supreme.

  • oh dear, I thank God for a jascha Heifetz.

  • he was indeed born to play the violin...jascha you're the best ever and ever and eeeever.

  • one of the best interpretations for sure, we are lucky to hear this

  • best violonist ever ,,, he is like pierre fournier in cello .,.,., :D love them

  • By far the best performance, by the best violinist ever lived.

  • @vassilischr Nothing is that absolute, my friend ... there are so many other violinists, playing it also nice and different. This is not a sport ...

  • 7:25-7:30 is amazingly hard to play clearly at that speed

  • Interesting video effects, Paint powa

excellent music, thanks for the upload.

  • No, the speed is just right

  • If you like slower versions, listen to stern's interpretation

  • I heard of this rendition almost half a century ago. I did not know who the player was, but the impression stays till now. After sampling many versions, it hits home that this is it.

The musical quality is astounding. It comes close to what perfection is like. Just listen and feel the power of emotional appeal and vibration. This is a masters piece that delights and uplifts the heart.

As the fragrance of flowers delights the butterflies, thus is the essence of great music to the ears

  • really poetic...i like it, however i am not quite sure whether this version comes close to my perfection. i think i prefer perlmen.

BUT, what a blessing to listen live to heifetz...one of the greatest indeed

  • This is amazing... for those of you who like this interpretation, you might like Ivry Gitlis' rendition. The two interpretations are surprisingly similar ... both geniuses. You know one interpretation that I'm not a fan of, of this piece? Joshua Bell's. I like Joshua Bell, but not on this piece.... Anyway, Heifetz is just amazing.

  • Every time I hear this performed by anybody else, it's just disappointing. Heifetz raises the bar.

  • Splendid.

  • who's playing in this video??? it is by far the best interpretation i've heard!! so rich in texture!!

  • Jascha Heifetz.

  • Jascha Heifetz.

  • only the best violinist who ever lived.

  • perfectly said "spanishspices".

He is the One and only!

  • I love it

  • that was.. AMAZING!

  • i didnt get the video though : D what those draws all about?

  • Heifetz plays this piece as if was his own creation....JRT

  • This is one of the most beautiful pieces that the great Heifetz ever played! Absolutely magnificient!

Still, if one looks at the number of youtube views that Heifetz gets, it is fairly low! Why is this? It seems that he has a very loyal base of people who consider him the greatest violin player ever (including myself) but that the general public, even within the category who listens to classical music at large, are not fully aware of his greatness!

  • Heifetz is rather untouched. People listen to Perlman more. When I show them clips of Perlman admitting Heifetz and Menuhin are better, they flip out and say he's lying. I will admit that Perlman's interpretation of this piece is a bit more touching, but that's about it. Heifetz makes almost everyone else look like nothing with stuff like Zigeunerweisen.

  • sadly I think that 'classical" music is a dying breed. most people on the street (999/1000) woudnt even know who Heifetz was. truly a sad state of affairs we are in.

  • I know - I am definitely the only one in my class who knows who Heifetz is.

Most of the class don't even know who Tchaikovsky is.

  • who cares? so long the ppl in the classical circle know him and appreciate how good he is, it is enough.

  • 1/1000 means about 7000000 around the world. Enough for the music to stay alive.

  • i think 999/1000s a bit of an exageration but i see your point

  • @calloffthedogs I deeply thank God that I know him. I just turned 18, but I'm a Heifetz die hard fan!!hehe I discovered him through youtube, with his paganini caprice no. 24 video.

  • @calloffthedogs I disagree. "Classical" music is still alive and thriving well! It's always changing, which is to be expected. I'm very excited to see what comes of it, myself, in the future as the post-contemporary period commences! Heifetz won't be forgotten, however! I still hear people talking of him within our community. He definitely is and always will be a legend!

  • @DustinHahnMusic -You have that right sir.(or madam)

  • @calloffthedogs yeah thats right...even 9999/10000 wouldnt know him

  • @KevosMagic -I would not go quite that far. As for it ever dying completely-don't believe that for a minute. It has been around for centuries, and just how long have any of the others been around.

  • @calloffthedogs id agree with u, but not if were talking about most areas in europe. in europe, classical music is still very big, not as big as it was before because of all the mainstream music but it is still very alive. i toured in europe, and i was amazed at how much the audience understood about classical music and the piece i was performing. but overall id hav to agree with you haha

  • @yangsta72 -It is not dying to anywhere near that degree.

  • @calloffthedogs

I just learn about this wonderful violonist. You know what, I will remember him because his name is close to the name of a trademark selling tomato sauce!... :(

  • @calloffthedogs indeed. What to do... Perform, and love the music. Enthusiasm is contagious ;)

  • @calloffthedogs

That's because "classical" used to be "pop." You can't make a comparison back to the time period when Heifetz was the Lady Gaga of today. Take another perspective: 300 years from now, are people going to be listening to Justin Bieber, as much as we people today listen to Bach? If you put things into perspective, then it's not really a dying breed.

  • @SkrPchr3 I think you have to draw a distinction, classical music is fundamentally different from all contemporary music from jazz to the modern era. There is a real distinction. Most great composers would be considered incredible geniuses by impartial standards, they slaved and used massive amounts of musical theory knowledge to make intricate pieces. Heifetz (or any other classical musician) had to practice for near a dozen hours a day, the same can't be said for rap or pop artists.

  • @calloffthedogs no creo que se extinga por que esto se enseña yo enseño a ver esto a mis alumnos

y enseño a mis amigos!! esto y jascha heifetz es inolvidable

  • @calloffthedogs I know this comment is over 2 years old...

I wouldn't say "classical" music is a dying breed any more than any art is a dying breed. It's just not "popular.

Heifetz is known as a violinist; so it's perfectly understandable that he wouldn't be as well known as a composer. You could say the same thing about David Brodsky.

It's not more rational to say that "classical" music is losing to rock than it is to say gourmet food is losing to mcdonalds. They're totally different things.

  • どうしてケトウはamazingを馬鹿の一つ覚えのように書くのだろうか?

    これ最高の演奏以外の何物でもないですよ。

  • what is that supposed to be?

  • why are you saying this amazing piece of music is stupid?

this is nothing but an amazing performance.

    that was a translation

  • 7:51 wooooo!!!!! i luv that bit amazin

  • used to be good friends with his grandson.very nice guy

  • I know absolutely nothing about music. But I know that this is AMAZING.

  • Have you ever eaten food when curry is always better then sugar? Salt is better then pepper?

    How about enjoying different flawours!!!?

Heifetz, Oiistrakh, Kogan, Szeryng, Ferras, Hahn, Thibaud and many other musicians make my life more complete!

    I love them all!!

  • yehudi menuhin...as well

  • @maxhansendk

    yes heifetz is cool.

Just a thought, there is the part at 3:16 and 5:32 where heifetz plays double stops before the orchestra comes back in.

would anyone happen to know what chords he's playing?

on the music, they are harmonics. (another reason why heifetz is unique)

  • @mindtrackeryun24

    never mind

    i figured it out

  • @mindtrackeryun24 Yea I noticed it too. But don't you think Heifetz's modification is less risky than the original?

  • @andrewsun

Yes. I miss those harmonics a lot of the time.

Perhaps it's that run from low e to high e right before

  • 6:37

  • heifetz supporte peu de comparaison et je me suis trompée

en marquant un spam négatif !!!!

  • simply beautiful...no comparison

  • The way he holds out that high E at about 7:30. I can't help but laugh in ecstasy. WOW!!

  • Thank you very much for posting.

  • Maybe the master of 20th century violin --

  • its not maybe...

hes the best clasical preformer of 20th century

  • no maybe about it. He was.

  • Sarah Change, Perlman.... no one can compete with Heifetz. I almost burst into tears while hearing his performance...

  • True that no one compares with Heifetz, but have you heard Gitlis? No one compares with him either.

  • Its Sarah Chang not Change you idiot

  • I am joining to "Hopfensperger"'s question from 5 months before. when and under which label was it recorded? i want to buy it. outstanding piece.

  • Das Zusammentreffen zweier "MEISTER"..grandios

    ..virtuos !!!

  • Asombroso...GRACIAS por el video,

    *****EXCELENTE...BENDICIONES.

  • Notice how Heifetz is always just ahead of the beat! This adds to the intensity and edge. Never really noticed before. As always, unimaginably sensational.

  • now thats what I call abstract art. xD

  • Is this his 1954 version on RCA? (So I know what to buy!)

  • One of my top favorites

  • Marvelous

  • Excellent sound quality, Great music piece which will live forever!

  • Didn't know it was written for Sarasate himself!

    Pity he couldn't record it...

  • This is fantasic, I think i may just have to listen to it again... : )

  • Wow... amazing
