Well, Vicki certainly took every opportunity to make this episode focus directly on her, didn't she? This is one talk show episode where I can honestly say that, by the time I was done watching this, I still felt like I knew absolutely nothing about the guests. Vicki did more talking by herself than all four of her guests did combined. Starting at 6:45, she spent nearly 2 and a half minutes babbling on and on while her guests sat there like logs. And Beverly Archer got a raw deal for sure.
@leahar79 Absolutely! I 100% agree with you! The rest of the cast seem like a close-knit group, but I got the impression that Vicki thought she was "too good" to hang out with the lowly "co-stars," especially when Beverly brought up that Vicki had never accepted an invitation to come to her house for dinner like the rest of the cast had.
5:35 Look how Vicki shot DAGGERS out of her eyes at Beverly for adding her input to the whole "Bubba" character. Was poor Bev not allowed to talk or even BREATHE on her show?? I have to agree with the other comments on this . . . Vicki was VERY rude to Beverly on this show. If she's this rude to her on-camera, how rude was she to her OFF camera??
@vocalguru10...Thelma's mouth fires real bullets...Madea carries blanks. Thelma beats Madea in every imaginable way...hands down. Not a fan of Tyler Perry. Team Momma's Familyi!!
wish they'd all come back again....loved watching the show. it was like a magical cartoon world...tho dysfunctional, it always felt good to visit there.
Mama's Family is one of my favorite shows Im 15 so I use to watch reruns of Mama and the Golden Girls with my grandma so its great to be able to find a few episodes of Mama to watch to remind me of my grandma. R.I.P grandma. BRING BACK MAMA! reruns of course.
I will Always miss this show ....I was born 1980 and comming up this and the Carol Bernet show was my fravorite Ms Vicki & Ms Carol are my idols More likely my Grandmother God Bless You All & Thank you for the precouse Memories
As much as I loved watching Mama's family, they kind of made a mistake when they created the special Vicki was referring to "Eunice" which aired on CBS in January of 1982. It was in fact about Mama passing away. It really wasn't in my opinion a very funny show, it was kind of sad in a way. Then a year or so later they created Mama's Family, kind of confusing, Carol Burnett and Harvey Corman made a few appearances early one, it still was a great run, and a hilarious show !
mama's family was the best sticom ever. they should have not canceled it in 1990 since it was still popular. they could have kept making new episides untll 1993.
I know what you mean....there's something about her demeanor that rubs me the wrong way. The way she snaps at the guests "stand up" sounds ruder than I'm sure she intended.
Where were Eric Brown (Buzz), Karin Argoud (Sonja), Betty White (Ellen Harper Jackson) and Rue McClanahan (Fran Crowley)? They were a part of that show, too.
All I see is that are reruns are girlfriends, the wayans bros, the golden girls, less than perfect, Reba and of course Roseanne I like those shows but I wish they had more reruns on TV.
Im only 15 an me and my sister who is 19 used to sit around and watch re-runs. They were so funny, and they still are. But i never see re-runs on tv anymore. I had a chance to meet Rue Mclanahan, when she wrote her book, but my sister had One Act Play that night, i was pissed.
They sadly only rerun the same old same old. I only see Fresh Prince Of Bell Air, Rosanne, and Home Improvement on lately. IT's a shame. I like those shows but I wish they had more reruns on TV.
@ItBrandonSilver I wonder about people who seem to focus on sex, no matter if sex is the topic or not. Do you have alot of sexual tension? Believe it or not, sex is not the only interesting thing out there. Grant you, it IS a good topic...just not the only topic.
i agree. i hated how the show was revamped after the first season when aunt fran died and buzz and sonya disappeared. they never came by to visit either.
is it just me or was she acting like mama at 0:27 just before she hung up the phone when she said "She's an older woman about my height". She had that same cranky manner Mama did in the syndication episodes
what do u mean you don't get how they were such good friends? I don't understand your question? They both went to the same church and had the same interests, not too mention Iola constantly visited. I don't think Mama ever once visited Iola at her place. lmao! In fact, Mama has never even been shown inside of Iola's house. lmao! Iola was more of a visitor who overstayed her welcome. Also, if no one got what I meant about Leah Remini, youtube Leah Remini on the Ellen show. lmao!
im not sure but i believe Iola was the replacement of "Aunt Fran" -Thelma's younger sister. Who was about 5-10 years younger. I suppose Iola just related more to older people.
omg! This has been one of my top favorite shows for at least the past 10 years. I can't believe I never knew this reunion existed! I guess I was too young when it aired. Thank you so much!
Vicki reminds me of Leah Remini. They both go slightly too far with the joking and become offensive, but it's always funny, but I'm just not sure how funny it is to the people they're directing their remarks too. As some examples, the whole "I'm younger than everyone here" comment "Naomi's a slut" comment. lol! It's like damn lol!
I love Mama's Family, all-time favoriate sitcom! I used to wake up at 2am in the morning to record this show, all back-to-back commercial-free marathon! I have about 7 tapes full of it! I'm so glad to know there are soooo many people out there who loves this show besides me. I don't know anyone my age who likes this beside my sister and myself.
i had the pleasure of meeting vicki after her two woman show a couple of years ago and i took a picture with her and she was sort of a crappy mood but seemed ok

Alan Kayser ("Bubba") was so hot. Handsome and a slammin' body. This always struck me as somewhat of a miscast. Naomi, Vint, Iola, Eunice, and Mama were all various forms of losers. He was supposedly disowned for being a juvenile deliquent, yet his character always reflected a heart of gold. It seems to me they should've cast someone dorkier and/or belligerent
I think the first run of the show was funnier. It gave more "down home" type of feel which was very original for a sitcom back then. I think all the exta family members (sonya, buzz, eunice, ellen, and fran)made it more realistic as far as depicting relations between a southern family. I agree 100%!! The NBC version is closer the the spirit of the original Burnett sketches. Vint and Naomi were not as dumbed down. Naomi was the "foil" for Mama a lot of times since Eunice was not there on a regular basis. If only SOMEONE would release the uncut versions of the NBC run on DVD or at least put all "The Family" sketches from the Burnett show in a boxed set!!
I loved this show! I used to watch it with my Mom...called her Mamma...and she STILL calls me "Vinton!" If you've never seen it...you have to check it out sometime...great sitcom tv!
I met Ken Berry in person at an autograph show in 2000, one where you pay $10 for celebrities to sign their 8x10 pictures. He was NOTHING like Vinton Harper, very business-like and kind of cold. He wrote nothing personal for me, just his name and thanks. When I gave him a ten dollar bill, he stuffed it in his pocket and turned away. Sometimes it better not to meet these people...
Well...with the exception of the episodes featuring Carol Burnett as Eunice. Haven't u ever seen the episode where she sings at Vint & Naomi's wedding!?!? OMG! HILARIOUS. Probably the best episode of the show's run!
I loved this show! Especially after the 2 year hiatus in 1985, after which they wrote out Rue McClanahan and Betty White (who went to do The Golden Girls) and brought in Allan Keyser (Bubba); the final 5 seasons were by far the wittiest, but seasons 1 and 2 were great as well. Can't wait for them all to come out on DVD!
I remember when this came on TV. 1994 I believe was the year. I never got to see it until just recently for the very first time 13 years later! Thank you very much. I hope this show lives on forever. It has made me laugh like no other show. Maybe it will be included on a future DVD release.
Oh geez! I never knew of this reunion show. When was that? Well, the huge shoulder pads of course give it away - the '80s. Shortly after the show originally went off the air? I believe TBS is still rerunning it in the wee hours of the morning - 3:00 AM PST?. Used to tape and watch it again and again! Vicki was such a hoot with the whole gang! Looove it forever!
I hear all families are dysfunctional. But WHAT authority decreed that??

I met Ken Berry in person at an autograph show in 2000, one where you pay $10 for celebrities to sign their 8x10 pictures. He was NOTHING like Vinton Harper, very business-like and kind of cold. He wrote nothing personal for me, just his name and thanks. When I gave him a ten dollar bill, he stuffed it in his pocket and turned away. Sometimes it better not to meet these people...

Am I the only one who is not a big fan of the first few seasons? The Bubba and Lola years were the best
DVDFreaker 4 years ago 2
I totally agree with u. The first few seasons weren't that funny but when Iola and Bubba came it got a lot better

Alan Keyser is a jerk. Dorothy Lyman rocks! Beverly Archer has awesome legs and Ken Berry is a truly gifted man.

Hey. Why do you say that about Alan? Just curious. Thanks!

Vicki's talk show aired from 1992-1994. This particular episode aired in 1992 (says so in the end credits). So this was 2 years after "Mama" ended.

Actually, the show first aired in 1983 and ended in 1990.
