wow, poor horse, poking it with a stick, pushing and pulling the horse wont get the horse to go into the trailer, it'll just make him mad and not wanna go in to the trailer anymore, if u were a true horsemanship person, than you would of helped them, or gave them advice. NO! instead u decided to laugh your ass off. U hve to give the horse incouragement! Im younger than you and I kno how to load a horse, i have even broke a horse with a little help before! W. O. W.
i was at a futurity show for my two year old and just happend to bring my three year old with also. when it was time to load the people a few trailers down took over a half hour to load a horse they said they had spent over 5,000 on. i was able to load both of my two within a min. i threw the lead rope over them and they walked in at the same time with no hesitation.
isn't it because you look like an unable leader that doesn't know what their doing so you're telling the horse you don't know what you're doing so he doesn't trust you therefore he doesn't want to load, he may get scared, frustrated, and he might want to get out of this situation so the horse will sometimes buck or rear
They do like their space i wouldn't want someone staring at me in the face if i was the horse. It makes them not wanna go. "why are you looking at me" wouldn't you feel the same??
I get stressed out. So far it hasn't transferred to the gelding. He is interested and relaxed but he isn't properly lead trained and we'll by out on the acres with the cows loading... Need time to trail first really - think I should park the trailer in there and do some work over two days? or with lots of time and being chill, take him as soon as he gets in there.... worry about getting out again at home?
So heres my delima. Im involved with two horses who come from a place where there is free access to everything for the horses, no leadershiop at all. I mean at all. One gelding is 7 and he's never been gentled/brook. We have been gentln' for months and have improvement - no pen or seperate area to actually TRAIN him. He is dependant on his buddy. We load his buddy first and then with praise and lots of time to look around, no 2 loads. Time to bring home from the pasture is coming. prob :
By doing the things these women were doing by trying to put this horse on the trailer my trainer got dragged because of it. It takes time, and confidences, and ability to work with your horse, dont RUSH!!
I watch some of clinton andersons programs occasionally and I once saw his approach to training a horse to load, where he works the horse around the trailer and lets the horse learn that the trailer is a place to rest and relax. I used this on my moms mountain horse who was terrified of trailers, and it worked so well. Now he will self load and unload, I dont even have to get in the trailer with him. I was wondering what you think about this method of teaching a horse to load?
Im thinking all you need to do is show the horse that you have more time than he does. If he wants to act up at the door of the trailer, let him, Show him you have all day. Get him to agree with you. Dont force him into anything :P
Advice please? My mare as a 2 year old had a little and i say LITTLE fright in the box on the way to a show, since then i can not get her back in. Iv tried to walk her in and out the other side a million times and she will not go. I no the best way is to walk in and out and then stop in the middle and then after a while shut the doors and then go for a little drive ect but i can not get her in.
Now a good horseman would've gone over and offered some advice to someone who obviously doesn't know how to control a horse's feet. I'm willing to bet most men and women who have had problem loaders have done similar things. Until someone is shown how its done correctly, how does one know they are doing it wrong? Education should be done in a positive fashion, as its done with horses. Not through ridicule. p.s. look at all that's wrong in how your horses are tied-could've been an ugly scene
@MyBoyG : NO, a busy body sticking their nose in other people's business would go give advice when it is not asked for. A know it all life long horse owner would have stuck their nose in to show how much they know. I do this for learning, stay the hell off my channel and keep your stupid advice to yourself or to add to your barn drama. Teach your unwanted advice on your own channel. You are blocked, now go fly around your barn on your broom. How is that for ridicule?
You did ask a valid question I thought, one that most inexperienced horse ppl ask...." Untill someone is shown how its done correctly, how does one know they are doing it wrong?"
the answer to that is VERY simple....LOOK and LISTEN to YOUR horse! If you can't see by watching this, that she is doing wrong, than you shouldn't have a horse....if your doing it right, than your horse won't act this way...the horse will always tell you, if your right or wrong...you just have to listen!
@MyBoyG its very easy to ridicule back isn't it? I think the point of the video was to demonstrait a situation which can be improved on, for the sake of learning, not to ridicule those women. How would the video achieve this walking in there and taking over? people need to be able to spontaneously co-operate in the case something ugly does happen. not be intimidated by ridicule and wind up as unwilling as a balky horse
Hey Rick, didn't know if you've seen this before. It's about a "person" who is known for natural horsemanship! You'll get a kick out of this. It'll make ya mad too.

ha ha ha! I did this once! I see how stupid I looked now. I pulled and I tapped. That horse looked at me like "No way!" Thankfully I've learned since then.
I absoutly can NOT stand watching people sit there and hit horses to get in a trailer. If I were you I would have gone over there and knocked them out.
@Golvklut : I did not say they were helpless, but not horse smart and since they own horses and go out riding, they should make it their responsibility to know and understand a horse better. This is a symptom to bigger issues, if a person can control and load a horse without help, they are not safe riding that horse, control only gets worse in the saddle, so their lack of understanding gets them and the horse in trouble in many areas and that is not good for the Horse.
OMG, this is SO us! Just started training our horse to go into the trailer and it has NOT been fun. He KNOWS he can push us around. ;( I'll go look for your video on how to do this correctly. Thanks!!!
@Kimmyloca0 : Poor buddy, he loves to get into things, but he seems to enjoy it so much and I enjoy watching him try and get away with it, so we both have a good time. Although there are times it can be a pain in the butt.
@yukontanya : Yep, I did not mention that but good point, try and hold a 1000 pound scared flight animal while hitting and pulling and then use a blanket bar to try and hold the horse so when the horse really said he had enough he pulls the bar off it hits the owner or horse and makes the situation 10 times worse.

Ok so pulling and pushing is not working... So lets loop the rope through the trailer and get more leverage! That should help!
