  • Mravinsky was a superb conductor. His beat was ever so precise. Easy to follow.

  • Mravinsky is the best condunctor for Shostakovich.

Shostakovich is the best composer for symphonies

  • @Choen444 it's the second, Mahler is the first ;)

  • @777wallaby777 I do not agree with that statement but that is your opinion :)

  • @777wallaby777 Mahler, the first. Gott im himmel. Mahler ist der leste. Ein scheisskopf juden.

  • So idiomatic horns! Strings as blades, delirious woodwinds. without question the best DSCH 5 (and 6, 8, 10) performer.

  • the hall seems narrow, but the recording doesn't seem to mind.

  • absolutely brilliant. calculated anti-sentimentalism

  • What memories for Mravinsky! He premiered that symphony in 1935 (if memory serves me right)... He and DDSh were close friends (until the episode of the "Babiy Yar" 13th Symphony).

  • Les cuivres russes !!!! Qu'est-ce que ça sonne !

  • The Genius himself.

  • No words! What a clip!

  • Ladies and gentlemen... the French Horns! They sound so great at the beginning!!!!!

  • Yes, thanks a million. Keep it up, I'd say.

  • At this time the wonderful Victor Liberman was still concertmaster.I heard a lot of his teaching in Utrecht, and had the privilege of following his rehearsals

with the Concertgebouv orchestra when he conducted this very symphony.I learned so much .Thank You For .
