This is piece is traditionally a percussion showoff work. Accents would normally coincide with gestures of dancers. Rendition of percussion would depend on version of dance.
Se nota que los integrantes son virtuosos, pero los percusionistas son un desastre, le quitan toda la belleza a la interpretación, impresionan como desafinados o fuera de contexto
Armenian PHIL plays this piece much better...just because of all the musical stuff that cant be located its whats within...SPIVAKOV though a great conductor violinst his wife i tihnk is Armenian so he visists Armenia quiet often
I do belive that the percussion is out of sync with the rest of the audio. The pecussionists work sounds right, just out of sync, which is why I believe barrett90 had some difficulty with this. If you can locate the Loris Tjeknavorian 2 CD/LP "Gayne" RCA recording, all gels into place and is more than electrifying. All other recorded performances sound weak when compared to it.
Another good one is Khachaturian's own recording of selections from "Gayaneh" (of course, including this and the Sabre Dance), made in '62 (yes, it's stereo) with the Vienna Philharmonic, on Decca/London.
I think one could safely trust world-renowned conductor, Vladimir Spivakov to present a work to its greatest and most exciting advantage. Obviously the percussionist was given some artistic liberty in this interpretation. I was there -- it was fresh and utterly electrifying!
in fact this is the way to play it. i have played with conductor Amayak Durgaryan (famous armenian conductor who was Khachaturian's friend) and he insists to play that way (it's a traditional dance with knives).
Powerful, brightness at limit, marvelous composition and performance. Thank you Medzn Aram Amenain Haiots Varbed. Thank you very much for this uploading Elizabeth1952.

@rosten736 You might not like it, but that is actually how the composer intended it to be played.

i think the percussion thing is jsut because of the acoustic. the sound does take some time to travel...and it's such a big place...

Great song but the percussionist really ruins it in this performance.
