Gerald could always sing his ass off. I've always thought Gerald Albright from the Manhattans and Felipe Wynn from the Spinners were the most brilliant groups leaders of our time. The Temps and Tops could sing, but couldn't touch the Manhattans or the Spinners. This is art history!
@GospelAccording2ME I refuse to argue this matter because I know otherwise. I have been following the Manhattans for more than 30 years and I KNOW that the sweet voice behind most of the 70's ballads is that of Blue. He also appears above in the video singing lead vocals. Obviously you don't know him (or the group) as you would believe, Sorry!
I tried my damndest to look just like these smoother than smooth soulsters in late 1976. I'd give almost anything to sound that good when I exercise my vocal chords.
wow this song reminds me of a love i once had,and i told her the same thing gerald in the mannhattans said in the end of the song:even though youm hurt me,like nooone else could do i would never never hurt you..mannnnn,whooo, i still cry when i play this song thanks much for the genius that put it on here
this means alot to me...sitting in a pub with my mum, uncle, younger brother and sister when this was always played on the juke box.bottle of coke and a bag of crisp..sadly they have all passed away..miss them so so much...god bless them....thanks for posting...
Great song. My dad introduced me to this song when I first met up with him after 17 years of him missing my childhood. He has a humongous record collection!
@awareman1 Yes I think you are right I had a love of 70s music and recorded top of the pops repeats on uk Gold.
Youtube was years away I recorded them for me on a old VHS video not the best quality but that was all there was
. Some people comment and say you have cut of the start or where is the end but if you have ever recorded on a vhs they would take ages to start up and miss the start and as for the end top of the pops had a habit of cutting of the end .
I love this song, it means so much to me, I was married and had 2 kids, unfortunately I met someone who treated me like this song says! The good thing was I kept my 2 sons! Thanks for the video Musicman!!
i like this song, because ive been hurt too much the he hurt me alot.i raised him up,i give my whole life to him i never expect that he can do this to me,he is very humanaizer, his name ronnie, maybe you know tis stupid guy
My late mother simply loved this song, and played it constantly on our old radiogram (remember them?). Thanks a million for posting it, never a day goes by when I don't think about her (and it's 21 years ago and counting since she passed away).
We blacks in Cairns, North Queensland in Australia popularised this song back in the late seventies at the old Tudor Room. We took over the dance floor and bus-stopped all night long. It sure brings back all those good memories of a bygone era that we will never experience again. Music just ain't musice anymore. Great Post.
@blackmajor1 MANHATTANS HURT They had never seen this vido before I posted it on youtube or could not remember it .
it was a much bigger hit in the UK than the US. I have never seen it on tv since uk goold used to show old top of the pops when sky tv ist came out but they sent me a nice email for giving them the best copy I had a very old VHS tape.
This is great to see this video.love the MANHATTANS,thanks you so much for posting it.it give us a chance to remember the good old day remember when music sound great. thanks.
to you sian i never meant to hurt you and i will regret it for the rest of my life i am t ruly heartbroken.i said we would be together forever and i broke that promise i hope one day you will forgive me as i truly am sorry and devastated.
im still young... but my mum thinks it like her best song to sing to my dad coz he HURT her me and my brotha sooo yeah i love this song.... its soo sweet
my song for my dad, hurt my mum and us kids ,met a women and said hed be there for us still, made no contact, then a few years later,i seen him ,he asked hows your mum, told him she had died,he said i should of got in touch, that hed of liked to of payed his respect,i slapped him, told him he never had any respect for her ,when she was alive,he had no selve respect, only for his girlfriend and kids, which also ended up lasting a few weeks, dad your a sad lonely old man,you have nothing
@loveisjj Im so sorry that stupid man hurt you and your mum...some men are very selfish and only think of themselves... Im glad you slapped him! Power to you! and you sound a lovely person...obviously your dad was weak and cowardly...you will be ok..and hopefully you will find the love you deserve
So true, I was 17 in 1976 not a care in the world, great music, first tinglings in the groin area, could get drunk for 2 quid, fish supper on the way home, happy days.
i got pregnant at 16 and this song i played as i found out that my boyfriend was cheating , so it was 2 emotions in 1 go happy and sad and yes kept the baby and kicked him to the kerb........
Sorry, you are wqrong about the lead singer of the Manhattans. Do your homework please.

@GospelAccording2ME The voice behind the Manhattans that most of us loved during the 70's is that of Winifred "Blue" Lovett.

A painful song but one based upon love, and sung with true emotion and harmony. One of my all time favourites by the Manhattans.
