just close your eyes and listen to this song .and hopefully do not critisise any of this song. this song i think is very much emotional isssue . great music .
I think she never actually found the book, she must've written it. If you follow the rest of the video, it is all about the dilution of a story. So in the end, she's not even sure what's real anymore. And the characters in the story begin to realize that the story is making less and less sense and it all starts falling apart, and it ends up becoming some insane story about finding a book that writes itself. That's why in the very beginning, she starts repeating herself-- "One day..."
please someone explain to me what the video is about. i understand what the song is about, but the whole play within a play within a play confuses me.
Este video para mí hace referencia a lo que muchos filósofos llaman "la venganza de la naturaleza". Cómo el hombre explota y domina a la naturaleza con fines empresariales y económicos.. recordemos gente que todo vuelve!
Have you ever noticed that the background beat is the sound of a locomotive? It starts in the moment she enters the train and goes through all the song. Now you know where this sensation of movement comes from =)
Ahhhh, this is the one that still sends shivers down my spines. Surely could be considered as the Bond theme that never was. Those strings, the tripping beat and that voice etched with desparation. Awesome in every way... They really do not make them like this anymore.

Especialy with affairs. Things happen and ultimately nature interferences I think because she possibly maybe got hurt. It is really weird that people dont seem to talk much about the relationship between Isobel and nature. I think it is more vital that the relationship with men in this video and especially in the "Isobel -saga". I think Im on the verge of realising that Björk is actually my favorite singer - songwriter. Not often both the music and the lyrics are this good.
-This might be spoiler to some. If you want to fully stick with your own interpretation, dont read this- Because according to Björk herself the song is a sequal to (Human Behavior and Isobel). In fact I think that cottage is the same as in Human Behavior music video. So Isobel was this child of nature kind person who lived in the forest and could almost say that she was one with the nature. However she decided to go a town by a train.Grown in the forest she had ofcourse problems in civilization.
There is so much in this song in my opinion that you could easily write an essay on it. So I will make an interpretation about just one single thing in the video. I havent at least yet seen anybody to come up with this following theory. I think the main character is grabbed by the nature (branches or whatever they are) and forced back to the place she was before she entered the town. Why?
What kind of a twat votes this song down? There are 126 at the time of posting. The song is sublime, the video is exquisite...I'm guessing the downvoters are tone-deaf rave freaks more used to bleeps than melodies. I'm a fountain of blood In the shape of a girl You're the bird on the brim Hypnotised by the Whirl Drink me, make me feel real Wet your beak in the stream Game we're playing is life Love is a two way dream Leave me now, return tonight Tide will show you sweet bliss If you forget my name You will go astray Like a killer whale Trapped in a bay
I'm a path of cinders Burning under your feet You're the one who walks me I'm your one way street I'm a whisper in water Secret for you to hear You are the one who grows distant When I beckon you near Leave me now, return tonight The tide will show you the way If you forget my name You will go astray Like a killer whale Trapped in a bay I'm a tree that grows hearts One for each that you take You're the intruders hand I'm the branch that you break Hum-yeah!

Guess I knew the definition of "Metafiction" in 1995 already, when I was 14...
The melody of this very song haunts me in a beautiful way all these years. I could always hum the music, even if I never remembered the lyrics.
Thanks to YouTube... the haunting feeling sneaks back to me in a smooth and cold way, like a beautiful snake, and bites me tendor,
Yeah, even if I got poisoned, it's worth it.
I'll always love Bjork.
