  • Joshua Redman est un très grand saxophoniste ...

  • Can anyone help me figure out the chord progressions? I'd like to improve on this piece!

  • @josephem It's just a B concert blues. If you want to be more specific, it's B7 4 bars, E7 2 bars, B7 2 bars, F#7 2 bars, E7 2 bars, B7 4 bars.

  • @Vitruvian42 Sorry, those are all minor chords.

  • @Vitruvian42 They all dominant chords. The soloists play minor and mayor thirds (and many other "odd" notes, but they are dominant chords. You can hear it clearly in the rhythm section

  • @FuchsFran Are you sure? The bass is definitely playing a minor third for each of the chords in the head. I know the pianist is playing the major third a few times to add a bit of "color", which is fairly common, but the head itself is structured more around the minor changes than the dominant changes (The last few notes emphasis the minor third). Either way, its blues changes.

  • @Vitruvian42 Yes, I'm sure. The sound is clearly dominant. The thing is that in jazz it's common to use many tensions in dominant chords, especially in the blues. That's why you hear #9 (minor thirds), b9, #4, b6. It's a major blues, the F# and the E are clearly dominant chords
