From what I've heard, deaf dancers focus on feeling the beat of the music rather then the sound, but I don't know if its true from personal experience. He does have a hearing aid though, so it's not as if he can't hear anything at all. On top of that, a good deal of dance is memorization, so run it through a few times you could perform a dance even without music.
