Back then games were based on skill, and rewarded the player much more for practice (like Demon's Souls). Today games still reward for skill, but the emphasis has shifted.

If your asked to name a peice, you'll probably choose one by beethoven. You won't think of the others written around that time. Only the significant stand out as true masterpeices.

I expect that 20 years from now people will be saying the exact same thing but with Bioshock or Minecraft.
