Drummer Paul Murphy and Pianist Composer Larry Willis have both played in devastating groups since the late " SIXTIES ".
Their duo recordings done at Lion and Fox are examples of their complete dedication and study of Music Theory and Composition . They are the LEADERS of AMERICAN JAZZ ! ! !
Wow thumbs down and no response surprise surprise... When will you snobs admit that this guy can't play drums above the level of a child. He's crap at it he's mastered the art of learning nothing about music in his life thats all he's mastered.
I have just had the opportunity to listen to Paul Murphy and Larry Willis' latest release EXCURSIONS . This is temendous and marks a long awaited transition in JAZZ. It was recorded April 2007 at Lion and Fox ; engineered by Jim Fox and the sound is CRYSTAL CLEAR *****. This MUSIC is MAGICAL.
I have just finished 'Break Away' with Jere Carroll & Joel Futterman and 'Excursions' with Larry Willis, both of these are available now from NorthCountry.
I saw Murphy's band "Phoenix" play at the Washington, DC World Jazz Festival July 3, 1994; he had Hamiet Bluiett, Karen Borca, Kidd Jordan, William Parker, Kash Killion & Yuko Fujiyama.
