I would like you all to know we still do these things every year at our reunions. Music and food is how we all bond. Thank you Uncle George for putting this on here! Now all we need is the video of the men turkey hunting. lol
Ignoring all the very odd comments on this page, I'd like to say thanks for this lovely little film. I'm glad someone was there with a camera. What a gem!
This video is so wonderful. I see a lot of strange comments on here. This was definately not common at the time, except in certain appalachian cultures. There are still remnants of this today, my family being one. The only reason I can relate to this experience is because my family is proud of their culture, yet adaptive to the times we live in. The worst thing about modern society is the negativity and the idea that progression eliminates tradition, instead of changing it.
@AngelWillGetYouBitch I don't need to google it, I already know all this... it haunts me, I use to be so much happier before I came to know the truth.
but, the fed was not started till about 45 years later. moreover, what we are living in is simply true fascism, or 'corporatism' as El Duce more closely defined it.
Nothing is stopping anyone from having a handmade, wonderful Holiday. It's up to you to make the decision to make it so. If your on the computer watching this and complaining about modern life, look in the mirror. Longing for the spiritual? Try making a handmade Christmas. Merry Christmas!
@pentas Yeah, that would be nice, but I wouldn't know which ex-wife to invite, nor whether or not to invite her children from her third marriage after ours. Sis went into the military and turned queer, and Mom and Dad don't like that, and sure don't want her to invite her lovers. My brother (blood kin) married out of his race, and even sis doesn't like that, besides, his wife, although she is Black, decided to be Muslim. So we send greeting cards around that don't mention Christ of course.
@WEREFEAT You're very wrong about Muslims & Islam my friend .Our filthy media is Demonizing the Muslims
and their faith for a reason . Islam goes against the Talmud belief system in every way. Muslims believe in Jesus
Christ & all the Prophets and they consider the Virgin Mary to be the purest woman ever.Muslims have no problems with Christmas but it's another trick to make believe other wise .Muslims didn't take the Bible out of the school .Christians have the RIGHT 2 erect A CROSS any where
@massimo38 I hadn't thought of that correlation. The talmud, for those who study and believe it, has nothing but hatred and contempt for "Joshua, son of Joseph, aka 'Jesus Christ.'
Jews who read the talmud certainly don't actually think that "Jesus was a wise man." They'd like YOU, "the stupid goyim," to think that, though.
@massimo38 Yeah. Well if you want to get into religion, which I don't really, all of the Abrahamic religions have Judaism at their roots. You see the fairy tales and legends float back and forth between them.
But what I was trying to say was the reason the Family has all but disappeared in the US is because of a fundamental loss of cultural and racial identity. If you couple that with the blurring of the sexes, you don't have "family" anymore.
Jesus... if things and people changed so much for last 55 years, what will happen in 55 years, are we going to become more barbaric, or maybe will go back to our roots?
"Hurried because much of our time was taken by a last-minute decision by NBC to show Pres. Nixon lighting the D.C. Christmas tree....." Excuse me? You mean VICE president Nixon? As someone born in 1955, I know Nixon was not the president.
@farang I was born 10 years later and I know Eisenhower was President, Nixon his VP. Followed by JFK/LBJ, preceeded by Truman. It's sad that our society is so dumbed down few if any will catch this.
Nice to see a reminder from a much simpler time when people still used their heads and were not conditioned to be stimulated all the time by cell/smart phone, TV, iPods, and coffee. Amphetamine junkies the whole lot of them!
this is so cool. My pappaw was named Calvin Ritchie. His family was from Lawrence co.and Perry county. His daddy's name was DeDE Ritchie he was a military police. I am interested in finding out more about his family... I dont know if I am related to Jean Ritchie but I love her music it is very touching. Thank U,Michelle Mcguire

This is the America I grew up in. Notice how well behaved the children were. Our lives were not junked up with material possions then. Life was simple and fun, lots of outdoors, and person to person contact. Wonderful family and wonderful music and singing. Thanks!!
Love hearing the local Aberdeenshire names but with the American accent. This is a lovely video of old times. I wish I had the same blof my parents and grandperents. Lady.
What a great video. It must be great for the family to look back. I love the homemade tree decorations. When families actually spent time together instead of dummying up in front of the TV.
Thank you so much for posting this. Besides getting to hear the wonderful "Cherry Tree" Carol, but I also got to see the Step Around the Mountain quilt pattern. I've searched all over for that pattern to make; now I can. My grandmother use to talk about making that pattern, but she no longer had an example to show me.
Ah, December 1995, the president was Dwight D. Eisenhower, who was recovering from a heart attack, and later elected to a second term. Nixon was a decade later...
I'm so amazed to see this video here! Thank you! My ggggrandmother was Catherine Ritchie (born in 1810) who married John Hoover. They lived in Timberville, Rockingham County, Virginia.
I can remember this reunion just like it was yesterday. It was a beautiful experience for all of us....one we will never forget. I love seeing the video and hearing the voices of all the family singing together. Thank you so much for posting it. Love, Joy

@AngelWillGetYouBitch If you think little bit harder you'll find the main reason for what's happening in America .
IT'S THE TV ,the tool of self destruction .there's no time to watch mother cooking our food but they have time
to watch DANCING with the Stars.they have no time 2 study, but they have time to watch American Idol.why they
have 2 read when they can watch or play a video ! parents are the first teacher in the child life .ARE WE HAVE
PARENTS LIKE THOSE DAYS TODAY ? I REST MY CASE !

@AngelWillGetYouBitch Everything is done for a reason and for every action, there's Re-action .
Christmas is over & the day is coming when you get arrested for wearing A CROSS .
Today no body can wear a Cross or pray in schools .it's very sad to see what's happening
in America today & it looks like the worst still to come ... " MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR "
