I have not heard a bigger idiocy for a long time. Brian May is just a poor imitator of Ritchie Blackmore’s. Steve Morse compared to Blackmore is nobody.
Ritchie Blackmore’s progressiveness, innovativeness, creativity is none to anybody’s. All these facts prove that Ritchie has been endowed with an extremely powerful intellect.
BLACKMORE IS NO 1: Morse is a good guitarist but he still hasn't come up with any immortal riffs that stick to one's mind. Blackmore's riffs are a 'trade mark' that have stood the test of time, they were actual then as they are actual now. No one will ever eclipse what Blackmore has branded upon the Deep Purple sound. @gre1990 I don't know much about Morse in his soloist career, no doubt he is an accomplished guitarist, but standing in for Blackmore is stale, just as much as Blackmore would sound stale impersonating Brian May, or Brian May standing in for Eric Clapton. @bachinblack94 verissimimo. anche se secondo me Morse non è solo tecnico ma è molto di più: basta ascoltare i suoi pezzi da solista (che qui non ho messo).
Listen man, congrats... I was about to make an stupid comment, because most of the guys who like to compare Blackmore to Brian May don't know shit about Brian... While I was watching and I first saw the solos from Last Horizon (wich I really like) I thought "Oh, come on, here we go... now we got Friends Will Be Friends, Radio Ga Ga and I Want To Break Free) But I must say you've chosen very good solos (there are much missing too), I respect your video and musical taste.
But when you played his studio solo from the bridge of "Sweet Child in Time" (probably Blackmore's masterpiece of all time), I just have to go with him.
Plenty of great guitarist out there but ,for me, Richie does have that something extra, an edge or something that makes him more exciting to listen to. Richie Blackmore is the best.
May is not in the same league as either Blackmore or Morse. Morse is technically brilliant, Blackmore has excellent technique and has that something extra that neither Morse or May have. I've scene them all live and May is just not nearly as good as either Blackmore or Morse.

have you actually even listened to morses solo work like His album "High tension wires"??? because i find it hard to believe you really know what your talking about.... but hey, its your (opinion).
Comon Morse is fantastic player but when Blackmore was in purple DP was in a different league, Blackmore composes music on the spot while morse just improvises.
morse improvises because he has the freedom to in deep purple, its a big easy chair and its for fun unlike when he was doing his solo work which everything was prepared in advance. of course ritchies (one) of the greats, but the same thing for guitarist like clapton which im not to attracted to listening to them is "Pentatonic" scales", i prefer to have more of a variety in a guitarist with chromatic play which really get my ears, but i still have big respect for all these amazing guitarist.
calm it man , was are just expressing our views. everyone on youtube does it , i still wonder why people like you pull other people up for things like that .. pathetic
brian may is the best- one thing often overlooked is may's musicianship- he is an excellent singer, songwriter, pianist, -oh! and if you want to hear the song that sets him above the rest, check out "DEAD ON TIME" from Queen's JAZZ lp.
When I first heard Blackmore's Burn solo in 74 I thought heaven's doors were opening but when I heard Lord's solo I was sure I WAS in heaven... Good old days...
beh in realtà come musicista preferisco Brian May poichè è più vario (suona anche piano, ukulele e raramente organo) però Blackmore è mostruoso come chitarrista, e poi l'assolo di Child In Time era doveroso metterlo per intero!!!
Hi!!!!! Dont be borned!!! You talk about 3 Master here. The way that they play is just an extension of their mind ( personality ) and they make music with love and passion.
This is really stupid to say one is better than the others. Better for yourself !!!!( i agree)but you are not the world you are just one of 2000 million. Never forget that.
its nice to see so much tribute paid to BM. i think he deserves it; ive grown up with his stuff as well as Ritchie's and if it werent for those two i probably would have never held a guitar in my hands. Brian May is unique talent. you guys can say what you've said again!
Not sure if yall knew this but Queen is often credited for the first thrash metal song: Stone Cold Crazy. Trust me, the vocals might not sound thrash but the drums and guitar is prototype thrash metal, at least.
May is a great soloist. You must not know much about Queen. He made his solos just to fit into the song, not to show off. He is an incredible guitarist. Check out his songs Cyborg and Resurrection if you have the time. Thank you.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Therefore he's not a great soloist because only knows him to do in the middle of the song, a great guitarist unfolds well anywhere, May is good guitarist, but not large.
Brian May is a great soloist because of his technique. So because you don't prefer Brian's technique, he isn't a good soloist? Well then your comment doesn't carry much weight. Brian May is a perfectionist and makes his guitar basically sing throughout the whole song.
Bryan May doesn't work well his 'solos', is very bored. He isn't a soloist, soloist='solos' out of the song, in the middle=guitarist, he's good guitarist BUT NOT "SOLOIST". do you understand the deficinción already?
Would you just listen. He structures his solos and that's what makes them great. Just because a solo fits in with the song it's bad? That makes no sense.
may doesnt always solo in the middle of a song. you obviously havent heard much queen. Listen to the song "The March of the Black Queen", there are about three or four solos and they pop up throughout the whole song.
Exact, it's that I say, you don't even notice, the problem is that, that he does riffs out of the song and he doesn't have a feeling. he's only good guitarist and that he form part of a very famous band. BUT he ISN'T A SOLOIST. I do not explain him more, maybe that we have different concepts from the definitions
I'm sorry I dont understand what you mean. His soloing is easily one of his strongest facets of his playing. and excuse me, did you say he doesnt have feeling?LOL hes very emotional and has great feel.
And blackmore and Morse also they emphasize more by technique that by feeling. But above all blackmore unfolds better with the guitar, above all from the 68 to the 73, he has something of magic.
why dude? May is fantastic in his own way and is underrated. i like his tunes and sound, he is as recognizable as Blackmore and a small handful of others.
of course, however, Ritchie is THE best ;) that needs no mention on my part (i put a lot of effort maintaining that in the jimmy page vs blackmore video..)
oh lol i meant that i think may is absurdly amazing. he's arguably my all time favorite player. i thought you were saying that he wasnt great my bad dude.
Brian is a great soloist. Listen to Resurrection, Cyborg, Bring Back That Leroy Brown (live in any concert), Last Horizon (which is already on the video), ect.
I still don't get how you could possibly say he isn't a soloist. He did a 9 minute improv guitar solo live at wembley.
i consider him a virtuso because he dabbled with many techniques including brief times where he uses sweeping and tapping. he's also a decently fast player. He no doubt is a perfectionist. But do me a favor and listen to the opening lead guitar track in 'Death on Two Legs' and tell me that isnt flashy lead work. The guy has chops.
who wrote the song is beside the point though.lol my point is that brian has chops and the capability to play blistering leads. But now that you mention it, I'm pretty sure even though Freddie wrote the song it was Brian composed the leadwork. Thats how it was with Bohemian Rhapsody anyway. Freddie wrote the song and arranged an interlude for Brian to create a solo for. It somewhere on youtube where they discuss it.
no no , Brian May is not overrated, hes UNDERrated. you should compare Morse to Satriani or Petrucci or Vinnie Moore. Blackmore and May are too talented. they are top shelf.
Nevertheless, last fall I saw Deep Purple live, Steve Morse was brilliant!!!
Brian Mays guitar playing is what saved Queen from being so mediocre!!!! - that's just ridiculous. Surley Brian Mays solo band in the 90s should have been massive then. 300+ million sales isn't bad for a 'mediocre' band! Queen 'worked' because May was a magnificent guitarist within a highly talented unit, he shone without hogging the spotlight and playing half hour, self indulgent solos. They complimented each other (and played for each other)
I know what you mean. All 4 members of Queen considered themselves equal pieces. John's memorable bass lines, Brian's unique guitar sound and style, Freddie's incredible singing capabilities in over 30 genres, and Roger's capability to getting the perfect drum part for every Queen song. All of them great songwriters and all good singers (except John).
Anyway, they are three of my favorite guitarists ever. But, technically speaking, Steve Morse is just superior to the other two, it's useless to deny it. Ever heard the song "Tumeni Notes"? It's quite THE demonstration of it. However, it's just an opinion.
By the way, I should really give credit to Brian May, his guitar playing is what saved Queen from being so mediocre. Freddie Mercury?
He had a great voice, but he's a bit overrated, he wasn't as legendary as it is said.
Btw,the other Queen songs I like besides the Queen II album are Kind Of Magic,Stone Cold Crazy, Brighton Rock,Innuendo (really dig the Steve Howe's flamenco-style solo and the whole Brian May's guitar work),Under Pressure (David Bowie...),Radio Ga Ga,Hammer To Fall, Don't Stop Me Now, Bycicle Race, Tie Your Mother Down, Fat Bottomed Girls. No, I don't like Bohemian Rhapsody.
Hey, they are quite many, now that I think of it, but in general I don't like them.
The three songs that I don't like (but can tolerate) are Body Language, My Baby Does Me, and well I can't really think of a third song. Oh well. If you want to experience Brian May's skills, check out the songs Cyborg and Resurrection from his solo projects if you haven't heard them yet.
Never heard Brian May's solo stuff. Sounds great, especially Cyborg!
...Don't flame at me, but I must say that I prefer his solo stuff rather than Queen!!!!!
Yeah, maybe I'm the only person in the world who says this!
However, no worries, I never doubt of Brian May's skills. In fact he is one of my favorite guitarists ever (as I stated before) and he's also the only reason why I listen to Queen once in a while.
Blackmore The best forever

May and Morse got better brain for sure.
I could play back anything that Blackmore play without trying or thinking much
But even to play back some great stuff from May and Morse is really a big challenge, yet to create those stuff they must have some of the highest IQ
Steve Morse is a genius and a gentlement
May is an unique genius, he's not only a great guitarist, but a great scentist, great singer and keyboardist, and he can build a guitar

@Toottycat That would be because Morse is not too much into creating riffs, but creating melodies.

About May, im not a big fan, so i would say nothing.

brian may is the best- one thing often overlooked is may's musicianship- he is an excellent singer, songwriter, pianist, -oh! and if you want to hear the song that sets him above the rest, check out "DEAD ON TIME" from Queen's JAZZ lp.

When I first heard Blackmore's Burn solo in 74 I thought heaven's doors were opening but when I heard Lord's solo I was sure I WAS in heaven... Good old days...

BLACKMORE, OVVIAMENTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *-*
.. mamma mia... da panico... *-*
LuigiMontanaro 2 years ago
beh in realtà come musicista preferisco Brian May poichè è più vario (suona anche piano, ukulele e raramente organo) però Blackmore è mostruoso come chitarrista, e poi l'assolo di Child In Time era doveroso metterlo per intero!!!
Gillan91 2 years ago
Hi!!!!! Dont be borned!!! You talk about 3 Master here. The way that they play is just an extension of their mind ( personality ) and they make music with love and passion.
This is really stupid to say one is better than the others. Better for yourself !!!!( i agree)but you are not the world you are just one of 2000 million. Never forget that.
visionaire101 2 years ago 4
The difference between Blackmore & May vs. Steve Morse is that the first two are mortals. Steve Morse is a bona fide guitar God.
ksmithdc 2 years ago
brian may is THE best out of all three, incredible musical diversity, the best songwriter, and the best tone, the most individual...

its nice to see so much tribute paid to BM. i think he deserves it; ive grown up with his stuff as well as Ritchie's and if it werent for those two i probably would have never held a guitar in my hands. Brian May is unique talent. you guys can say what you've said again!

Blackmore es el mejor

Not sure if yall knew this but Queen is often credited for the first thrash metal song: Stone Cold Crazy. Trust me, the vocals might not sound thrash but the drums and guitar is prototype thrash metal, at least.

1. Blackmore
1. May
3. Morse
That's not a mistake a can't seperate them they are both unbelievable good. Morse is only very good
petkaneca1 3 years ago 3
Blackmore y morse. May isn't good soloist and Blackmore and morse are very much excellent guitars.
PurpleAndZeppelin 3 years ago
May is a great soloist. You must not know much about Queen. He made his solos just to fit into the song, not to show off. He is an incredible guitarist. Check out his songs Cyborg and Resurrection if you have the time. Thank you.
classicrockrockz 3 years ago 3

Therefore he's not a great soloist because only knows him to do in the middle of the song, a great guitarist unfolds well anywhere, May is good guitarist, but not large.
PurpleAndZeppelin 3 years ago
Brian May is a great soloist because of his technique. So because you don't prefer Brian's technique, he isn't a good soloist? Well then your comment doesn't carry much weight. Brian May is a perfectionist and makes his guitar basically sing throughout the whole song.
classicrockrockz 3 years ago
Bryan May doesn't work well his 'solos', is very bored. He isn't a soloist, soloist='solos' out of the song, in the middle=guitarist, he's good guitarist BUT NOT "SOLOIST". do you understand the deficinción already?
PurpleAndZeppelin 3 years ago
Would you just listen. He structures his solos and that's what makes them great. Just because a solo fits in with the song it's bad? That makes no sense.
classicrockrockz 3 years ago
my friend just what in the hell are you even talking about?lol Get a clue. Listen to the solo in bohemian rhapsody. that is ART.
codebabe 3 years ago
totally. brian may is probably the best when it comes writing solos that fit perfectly with the song. he really sings through his guitar.
codebabe 3 years ago
may doesnt always solo in the middle of a song. you obviously havent heard much queen. Listen to the song "The March of the Black Queen", there are about three or four solos and they pop up throughout the whole song.
codebabe 3 years ago
Also there's a bunch of soloing throughout all of Bring Back That Leroy Brown live (anywhere).
classicrockrockz 3 years ago
Exact, it's that I say, you don't even notice, the problem is that, that he does riffs out of the song and he doesn't have a feeling. he's only good guitarist and that he form part of a very famous band. BUT he ISN'T A SOLOIST. I do not explain him more, maybe that we have different concepts from the definitions
PurpleAndZeppelin 3 years ago
I'm sorry I dont understand what you mean. His soloing is easily one of his strongest facets of his playing. and excuse me, did you say he doesnt have feeling?LOL hes very emotional and has great feel.
codebabe 3 years ago
And blackmore and Morse also they emphasize more by technique that by feeling. But above all blackmore unfolds better with the guitar, above all from the 68 to the 73, he has something of magic.
PurpleAndZeppelin 3 years ago 2
i agree blackmore is amazing but i disagree with you about may.
codebabe 3 years ago
why dude? May is fantastic in his own way and is underrated. i like his tunes and sound, he is as recognizable as Blackmore and a small handful of others.
of course, however, Ritchie is THE best ;) that needs no mention on my part (i put a lot of effort maintaining that in the jimmy page vs blackmore video..)
showmasterd 3 years ago 6
oh lol i meant that i think may is absurdly amazing. he's arguably my all time favorite player. i thought you were saying that he wasnt great my bad dude.
codebabe 3 years ago
where is your page vs blackmore video ?
yeah to much support for blackmore and zep fans couldn' t stand it any more ???,
that s why it is gone, isn' t it ?
ritchie63 2 years ago
yes i think so too!!! :) it was someone else's video, but i also think they removed it because page was getting totally blown away..
showmasterd 2 years ago 6
Brian is a great soloist. Listen to Resurrection, Cyborg, Bring Back That Leroy Brown (live in any concert), Last Horizon (which is already on the video), ect.
I still don't get how you could possibly say he isn't a soloist. He did a 9 minute improv guitar solo live at wembley.
classicrockrockz 3 years ago
i actually disagree, in a way i think may is very flashy. yes, they fit with song, but his overdubs and harmonies are insane.
codebabe 3 years ago
The overdubs and harmonies are what made Queen awesome ;) Brian May isn't really a flashy guitar player. He's more of a perfectionist.
classicrockrockz 3 years ago
i consider him a virtuso because he dabbled with many techniques including brief times where he uses sweeping and tapping. he's also a decently fast player. He no doubt is a perfectionist. But do me a favor and listen to the opening lead guitar track in 'Death on Two Legs' and tell me that isnt flashy lead work. The guy has chops.
codebabe 3 years ago
Yes he is definately a virtuoso but remember that Freddie was the one that wrote Death On Two Legs and told Brian what he wanted to hear.
classicrockrockz 3 years ago
who wrote the song is beside the point though.lol my point is that brian has chops and the capability to play blistering leads. But now that you mention it, I'm pretty sure even though Freddie wrote the song it was Brian composed the leadwork. Thats how it was with Bohemian Rhapsody anyway. Freddie wrote the song and arranged an interlude for Brian to create a solo for. It somewhere on youtube where they discuss it.

may = delicate playing
blackmore = great technique
morse = delicate playing + technique
not hard chose
gre1990 3 years ago
Blackmore's playing is much more than just technique, and great is too simple a word for it!! greatest maybe?
Brian May is just as talented! and his technique is not 0. He recorded double hand tapping before Van Valen.
Steve Morse indeed combines many qualities, but he is younger. I have to rank him third. this is fair.
showmasterd 3 years ago
oh cmon
hes younger by 8 or 9 years
and hes recording since 1975 which is not as old as blackmore but its been a long time
even though i like brian may i think he got nothin to do with 2 monsters like blackmore and morse
gre1990 3 years ago
no no , Brian May is not overrated, hes UNDERrated. you should compare Morse to Satriani or Petrucci or Vinnie Moore. Blackmore and May are too talented. they are top shelf.
Nevertheless, last fall I saw Deep Purple live, Steve Morse was brilliant!!!
showmasterd 3 years ago 2
I agree. Brian May is definately underrated for his great guitarwork, especially in his solo albums!

@showmasterd
Brian May doesn’t have half the talent of Blackmore’s.
Flankersquirrels 4 months ago
Brian Mays guitar playing is what saved Queen from being so mediocre!!!! - that's just ridiculous. Surley Brian Mays solo band in the 90s should have been massive then. 300+ million sales isn't bad for a 'mediocre' band! Queen 'worked' because May was a magnificent guitarist within a highly talented unit, he shone without hogging the spotlight and playing half hour, self indulgent solos. They complimented each other (and played for each other)
Tfunster00 3 years ago
I know what you mean. All 4 members of Queen considered themselves equal pieces. John's memorable bass lines, Brian's unique guitar sound and style, Freddie's incredible singing capabilities in over 30 genres, and Roger's capability to getting the perfect drum part for every Queen song. All of them great songwriters and all good singers (except John).
classicrockrockz 3 years ago
Steve Morse for me!!!
He had a great voice, but he's a bit overrated, he wasn't as legendary as it is said.
ducadimantova91 3 years ago
ducadimantova- Freddie Mercury had an incredible voice. Just because you think it's overrated doesn't make it true.
P.S. Check out the song Nevermore if you haven't heard it yet ;)
classicrockrockz 3 years ago
Thanks, it's a great song. I must say that I love the whole Queen II album! But almost nothing else by them.
ducadimantova91 3 years ago
Well your loss then ;) I love everything by them except for about 3 songs :P
classicrockrockz 3 years ago
These three song you don't like being?
Btw,the other Queen songs I like besides the Queen II album are Kind Of Magic,Stone Cold Crazy, Brighton Rock,Innuendo (really dig the Steve Howe's flamenco-style solo and the whole Brian May's guitar work),Under Pressure (David Bowie...),Radio Ga Ga,Hammer To Fall, Don't Stop Me Now, Bycicle Race, Tie Your Mother Down, Fat Bottomed Girls. No, I don't like Bohemian Rhapsody.
Hey, they are quite many, now that I think of it, but in general I don't like them.
ducadimantova91 3 years ago
The three songs that I don't like (but can tolerate) are Body Language, My Baby Does Me, and well I can't really think of a third song. Oh well. If you want to experience Brian May's skills, check out the songs Cyborg and Resurrection from his solo projects if you haven't heard them yet.
classicrockrockz 3 years ago
Never heard Brian May's solo stuff. Sounds great, especially Cyborg!
...Don't flame at me, but I must say that I prefer his solo stuff rather than Queen!!!!!
Yeah, maybe I'm the only person in the world who says this!
However, no worries, I never doubt of Brian May's skills. In fact he is one of my favorite guitarists ever (as I stated before) and he's also the only reason why I listen to Queen once in a while.
