WKF karate could become an Olympic sport someday. But for me it's too "sporty". Maybe it's more realistic due to the contact fighting but it lacks the beauty that I see in JKA.

That really sucks. WKF took the same path as TKD. Goodbye real karate, goodbye real strikes, goodbye people's respect. Funakoshi had foreseen it but he couldn't stop it.

I'm happy to be in a real non-sports dojo right now but it's so sad to know that real karate is bound to disappear. :(

well dude i understand what your saying but both are good, i truly dont believe traditional karate will ever disappear, but i practise both sport and traditional and both are karate, just diffrent kinds.

Sport Karate nowadays is just light-contact kickboxing. Most techniques used are the same as kickboxing. Traditional Karate techniques are prohibited.

The goal of sport Karate is a point, a win, a medal. Like kickboxing. The goal of traditional Karate is the development of one's character first and foremost. There are no winners and losers in traditional Karate.

Point kumite may be a nice fun drill but if it becomes the most important part of training then there is no more Karate in that dojo.

This is Jassem, this guy is cool, he and Hossein is the current world champion for Iran karate team. This guys are cool, we train in the same hall at the Finnish Open cup, that's a few month before the WKF, our previous coach was also from Iran, Sensei Ali Reza Solemi, I have to say i've been admiring Iranian ways of fighting especially, i've been watching this guy,his superb mawashi ura mawashi combo, which fooled many fighters even my team mates whose fighting him.

For all the great Karateka's out there Iranian Karateka's are the best example of pure technicallity, they never fail to amaze spectator, im an undeer 70kg and my favorite fighter for this category currently is Raphael Aghayev, from Azerbajian. This guy really define the meaning of agility, he's a pure tough fighter to fight with, not by experience but by obeservation. Hope to see more of Raphael and the other world champions (WKF) videos... Osss...

cmon.. u can't say Aghayev and "technique" in the same phrase.. i agree he is an innovator and that he's fast, but the punches he throws shouldn't be seen as karate punches man!! ha strikes while jumping! that's not point at all! Check out Maniscalco or Loria to see how tecnique is at its best..

For Malaysia Karate team, Iran and some middle eastern country are our main rival, and Japan is currently not to achieving in kumite this while since Nagaki Shinji won Japan's previous WKF but still our traditional exponent.

dont degrade karate like dat, all martial arts are different so dont try compare them! but, if the red belt in this video cam up against a shobu ippon fighter, this red belt wud nok him to tomoro, we score points but they are meaningful, we wud av hit u about 5 times by the time u pluck up the courage to hit us once with a "knockout" punch, this kind of kumite is about control and precision not about kncking each other out!

JKA shubo ippon sucks! its so boring there is no good watching shubo ippon. shubo ippon is for the aged who can hardly move their limbs to kick,sweep or a takedowns... shubo ippon can also be describe like an old computer the ones with the green screen...LOL

BTW there is a massive use of Judo within shobu ippon.

Search JKA kumite and watch some of the old videos on there about Ogata and other sensei.

This WKF is just TKD with a few punches involved, Shobu ippon is about scoring the one point which would be enough to injure, knockout of kill your opponenet in one go.

Type in JKA Kumite and have a look at a few of the clips. Suspense builds and there's an explosion with one victor, not just some flailing limbs and hundreds of meaning less points.

I've been fighting in USA NKF (part of WKF) for years and it is anything but like TKD. There is way more than "a few" punches...most of it is punches. Sen no sen fighting like shobu ippon is boring as hell.

Join a JKA club and train in shobu ippon there, fighting in shobu ippon can be one of the scariest as well as most enjoyable experiences.

Shobu ippon means one hit one kill. WKF have kind of taken the meaning out of kumite, dont get me wrong, these guys are good but it's not what kumite is about.
