@AviatorF16Falcon the hd 7970 will get better as time goes by with driver updates. Its also less noisy, runs cooler, less power consumption as well as not having any issue with micro stuttering that dual GPU cards have. Its also cheaper. he HD 6990 will have slightly better performance overall with higher average FPS. I would go for the HD 7970 since it has more advantages. T

@Nightmare1066 Not possible. Two hardly beats a GTX 580. Even if they could the HD 7970 overclocks like a beast. The Sapphire Atomic HD 7970 will sport factory overclocks of 1330MHz which (in theory) makes it faster than two HD 6970's with perfect scaling. Proof? (2048sp x 1330MHz)/(1536sp x 880MHz) is equal to 2.01515 recurring. I stand corrected if I am wrong. But GCN should also bring extra improvements, even if they are minimal in gaming.

@KarateKid430 You can OC both of 6870's too, also 7970 doesn't have an entire 4 Teraflops, but then again neither do 2x 6870's so I think they 're even. Due to latency issues with between the 2 gpus in crossfire / SLI, 2x GPUs can never achieve a full 200% performance and it's usually about 180% performance max peak. They should be equal if so.

@TheSaggyKid yes you can crossfire it but i doubt you'll need to. what you are mixing up is the dual gpu 6990 which has two physical gpu's on an actual card. the 7970 is only one gpu on one card.
