For all those criticizing this guy's lack of up/down bow staccato, the original composer/performer of this piece doesn't use it either. The version we know and use today is an arrangement of Heifetz to be played as a show piece.

@360geraldj Normally you'd be right. And if he were playing the original version of the piece by Grigoras Dinicu himself I don't think anyone would miss the staccato. However this is clearly the Heifetz version and as such the missing staccato shows a gross technical deficiency in Garrett's playing. This is especially apparent when you take a "look at me I'm so fast" tempo. Sorry, if you're going to play virtuoso music, you've got to bring all the skills to the table or people will talk.

Loved this. David is unique and has his own style. It is such a shame that some people simply don't get it and can only criticise!

Hora Staccato?.....Are you kidding me??

If you are going to play this piece using the much easier stroke of spiccato, then take advantage of the freedom and do something more interesting with it!!!!!!

@expgnwlf Excellent observation. This was a prosaic rendition of a great work. However, it seems to have been short changed a bit by spiccato as opposed to staccato as you cleverly pointed out.

David Garrett is an example of a world class violinist who does not know how to execute the staccato bow movement. I must salute his gutts to fake the staccato bow strokes with some colle.

I thought Dinicu composed "Hora Staccato" and NOT "Hora Spiccato"!!!!! :)

He should play what suits him best; there's no fire in it.
