Dear Yankee Wrench, one thing ì don't understand is how you can move the crankshaft to check and adjust the pump timing if the sprockets on the pump and on the camshaft are locked?
I suppose that if the locking pin is in place at the pump spocket, the pump could not move except in relation to the sprocket?
It would be helpful for me to have an answer.Yours truly.
@MrMarienve2ea I need to put an info bubble on the video. You need to have the bolt holding the cam gear loose and also you need to remove the lock pin from the pump when you spin the crank.
@JeffnDenmark Just remove the steel injection lines that go from the pump to the injectors. That should give you enough room to get at the 2 glow plugs behind the injection pump. If you want to pull the pump, the locking pin along with some spring clamps to hold the belt will hold the pulley in position. You will still have to separate the pulley from the pump and remove the steel lines to remove the pump.
@maxny1 Thanks for writing. I did the glow plugs and I started on installing a new water pump. I screwed up and didn't lock the diesel pump before I took the timing belt off. And now Im trying to figure out how to set all of that in the right place before I re-assemble it. Any suggestions?
@JeffnDenmark If you didn't unbolt the injection pump the timing on the pump will be fine(If you did unbolt the pump the instructions on this video are excellent for the pump timing). Here are the instructions on how to set up the pulleys and the belt from scratch.

I need to replace the glow plugs on my 1.6D. Do I put the locking pin in before I remove the pump. Or is that necessary?

Rotating the pump changes the timing by advancing the lift point on the cam so it starts sooner in the travel
