  • sorry for the dumb questions, but are you a lefty, and why not real like cymbals?

  • I wish I could play like that. I guess I go practice some more now. TD 10 sound really nice. Roland makes excellent products.

  • You look like Lionel Richie

  • Brilliant!

  • Sounds are boxy, nice drumming though

check out the sound on this --> watch?v=YpjZWujoTDY

  • 2:00 that isn´t a real cymbal! xD

  • 7 guys don´t like the GOOD music

  • Wow man! You've got bigger cajones than I do putting yourself out there like that. That was great. You seem very comfortable with the 7/8 feel of the song. I can without a doubt say that I was very entertained by that. Is that some kind of Weckl-play-along track, b/c it didn't sound like the real track. Know what I'm saying?

  • Damn! instantly subscribed to you after seeing the first 30 secs!

  • you always do a great job on your videos...keep it up.

  • LOVE IT!

  • Animal!!!

  • coff coff, i am choking because u hav amased me

    lol

  • i love it how his mouth is open in such deep focus.

  • @ollecarlsson Sounds like theme music from Sonic the Hedgehog

  • lmfao

  • good playing :) but sound chosen doesn't sound real to me

  • Open handed all the way!!!

  • Your good, but I think you should get A bit more Realistic Cymbals xDD =DD

  • Cool!

  • omg great job,ur very good

  • your setup is killer, and your playing is amazing

  • Kudos! Really great job.

  • that was great man

  • How can i get this song without the drums in the background?

  • I have a backing track if you want it?

  • Great job! I still listen to 'Masterplan' to this day. Keep up the great job and post some more videos man!

  • Fucking great

  • it is in 7/8 .... and nice job by the way , this is a very difficult song to play

  • what signatures this something/8

  • holy shit man they is great

  • Wow, v nice man. I'm working on this piece myself.

Nice to see another open-handed drummer too.

I think we've got a pretty similar setup. Helps for stuff like this.

  • DAMN!!! I've had this book for about three years and was too freakin' scared to try this song! I'm going to work on it right now!!!

  • Great job. Keep up the fantastic work. Roland should be paying you.

  • wow. i thought myself to start showing of on my td 10 but u r so good i'm a little shy now. realy nice playing man . respect

    eli.

  • Nice to see another lefty drummer. Damn god playing brother. Keep rocking!!!!

  • i'd like to be on a cruise ship one day sipping some cocktail watching you rip it up. help me make this happen. come on.. the moneys tax free

  • simply incredible....well played!..congratulation ^_*

  • ahhh here it is - well done, and keep it up!

  • I did some research, you must part of the studio drummers. Because no-one cant do Weckl one-in-ine!

  • Awesome, I mean AWESOME!

    You do Weckl 1:1

    Im Speechless :)

  • beutiful! daves unreal..like the atypical left handed high hat set up also, wish i learned to play like that. then id really be a Cobham wannabe lol

  • Just put the high-hat on your right side and you're all set. ;)

  • I was planning to buy a digital drum set. After seeing this I won't bother. I just takes too much practice. Quit your day job Martin and go pro!!!

  • Dope Shit,i recorded the songs from the Dave Weckls Drumvideo some where in the late 80s begin 90s,I used to drum along with them songs on my remo practice pad ALL DAY. RESPECT MARTIN!

by the way great keyboard playing by chick corea

  • Very nice work. Probably the best Dave Weckl I've ever seen, besides Weckl himself of course.

  • Thanks so much for that great compliment. You're right, there's no touching the real Dave!

  • men you are a very talented person. I want to tell you something I think with a lot of respect for you and your work. It`s about the position of the snare. it`s very down and maybe you must turn your snare up and you`re ghost notes will sound better.

can`t wait to see you on a acoustic set!

  • amazing

  • This guy FUCKING ROCKS! Holy shit dude that is awesome!

I couldn't touch Dave Weckl if I grew two more arms!

  • Fuck yeah....

  • Oh my God ! This song is a real nightmare to play, and you do it perfectly ! I always find it very hard to solo on a odd time beat. I went through your other videos. My only reaction : clap clap clap !!! :-)

  • hey man, are you able to write down how you played the pattern at 1min:15sec in the video. Played between hi-hat, snare & kick.

Thanks heaps. You are left handed, so I'll reverse the sticking, as I am a right handed drummer.

  • I'll try... Something like this: lrrllrLrrllrlrrlRllr where the caps are the snare accents. Bass drum is generally on notes #1, 6, 13, 16 of the pattern. Remember it is in 7/8 time sig. so some of the notes are 16th and some are 32nds in order to fit 20 hits into a 7 count. Hard to explain that part, but the sticking should be as written. Not something I think about or do the exact same every time, so there is some variation here. This kind of thing is much cleaner on a real kit!

  • great work...I like playing this tune...

how long did it take you to master???

  • you are awesome!

    great feeling =)

oh and can you please send me this backingtrack? i cant find this one =(

  • how did u get rid of the original drum track ? - and how many times did u listen to the track 1st ?

    Weckl is a drumming god

  • try sitting lower, will put more power to your play and you sound a lot more grounded. wow, turn down you ride and pitch up your toms for more clarity.

    BUT GREAT WORK!!!!

  • Wow I absolutely love your groove and feel when you play. How long have you been playing for?

  • Wow, you sound so amazing!!! This is my favorite Weckl tune! Keep up the great playing!

  • this bwoy the ill est

  • I noticed your also using Dave Weckls' signature sticks as well...can I ask what weight they are and are they a ball tip, rounded tip, plastic or wooden.

  • Actually, in this vid I'm using the "old" model Weckl sticks, wood tip, round. I'm not sure of any weight deviation. I've since abandoned these for the new model when recording, though lately I've been using pro-mark 707's live.

  • Wow, how this brings back memories... I played Island Magic at least 500 times while I was in college. Then a little Festival Del Ritmo... Thank you for taking the time to post these videos. Roland should pay you an honorarium, because they're about to make another $3200...

  • Thanks for sharing your amazing talent! What motivated you to post a video like this on YouTube(which is probably better than a resume or audition)...????

  • wow it sounds like a td-6 only 2000 dollars more expensive. but nice playing

  • Nice man, how can u remember all the song!! fuck my

short memory, and fuck the weed

  • nice chops, solid fills, great job. you should post some original work.I'd love to here it

  • I wish I could play like that but unfortunatly I was born with my fingers on my left hand deformed so I don`t have any finger control with my left hand only arm and wrist I`m like a Rick Allen kinda player

  • hahahahaha dude...why are u not famous

  • nice, btw where did u get the minus one track ?

  • oooooohhhhhhh i see, your feet and hands are different, your one of those left handed-right footed drummers, or vice versa, but great playing, this is on The Next Step from Mr. Weckl, i have never known for the two years i have listened to it, what time is it in, does it alternate, could you tell me, anyway fantastic playing, i usually loose my place because of the awkward time feel

  • Awesome drumming!!

  • Damn you're nailing it. Really nice. True fan of Mr. Weckl. About to get me a set of TD-6KW (SW in US). Not at near the sound module U have from what I can see but will do for me at home :-)

  • Well done!

  • incredible!

  • awesome playing..just in time!!who said time lagging..it's excellent man..keep it up!!

  • wow! dude, amazing performance!!! your a caliber drummer A+++++++!!! it's hard to play dave and you played it like the the master.:) did you memorize the tabs or played it by ear? you're is such an insperation for us drummers wanting to play like dave w.

  • ahh mate that was 1st class! better than any of these modern day metal drummers! i must say im not confortable wen it comes to 7/8 time! you absolutly nailed it! great, nice kit aswell, im deciding whether to get a td-10 module or a td-12 module at the moment. Could you tell me when you strike a pad do you get the instrument responce straight away or is there a delay? (im presuming youve got a td-10) thanks!

  • it's just a geniouslyyayaois!! 10x10x10x

    2pr

  • Thats just awsome! I just got this song from my drumteacher and i hope i´ll be able to nail it like you did ;)

  • hey great job on dave!! your timing is nice ,great tempo..where did you get that track?? minis the drums...I'll keep watchin..sign off from the lefty

  • Really great! You've great feel of time and quite good precision. What's more you don't lose it in odd time signatures. Congrats :)

  • Hey pal ! this was great ! How long did it take to learn it ? are you left hander ?

  • Thanks... I am a natural lefty who switched the kit to a right handed setup very early on. This tune takes some listening to get all the hits. I've heard it so much that it just all clicks I guess. Cheers!

  • hey man, gta say luv it! ur co-ordination style is a bit lyk cater beauford with da left hand on da ride n hi-hat. amazes me 2 c ppl play lyk dt!!! u left handed or sumting??? also wud u b able 2 send me the island magic instrumental plz? cz i cn't find it anywhere???

    wb, bless xxx

  • Thanks! You're right, this track is very linear, like a Beaford type thing. I'll send you a message...

  • hey whats the time signature on this song. i am not a drummer so cant understand in what time your playing. cheers

  • The intro and verses are in 7/8. There's a middle section in 4/4, and the "hit sections" are 4 too. The solo is in 7/8, all the way through until the hits at the end which are in 4. The cowbell is the time click.

  • wow, nice technique, what books did you work off of when you were starting?

  • Thanks! As I recall, the only books that I found some value in as a beginner were Stick Control (a standard), and a book called Drummers Cookbook (I think that's the title). Now there are so many out there, play alongs, etc. Good luck!
