Evil is God loosening his grip of fine tuned control on the universe just a tiny bit. Like if gravity changed just a tiny bit we'd all cease to exist. So this tiny wiggle room was taken by humans and God uses it to teach them 2 things.

Satan simply means "adversary". If God was angry with Israel at the time, he would have been an adversary to them. In many translations of the 2 Sam. it says something to the extent of "God burned AGAINST Israel" (emphasis added, of course). When you are against someone, you are their adversary...their Satan. You'd have to look at the exact translation of 2 Sam that the writer of Chronicles was using, and also know his understanding of God.

In my opinion I dont think The bible should usually be taken literally. The Bible is full of parables and metaphores as well as history (in my opinion) but to pigeon-hole minute details is futile. It was transcribed by men and therefore subject to fallible memory and perspective. But taken as a whole it is infinitely profound. Whether one believes in its ideology or not there is no denying the wisdom it holds in guiding a person through a good life

There are several instances in the bible were Satan challenges God to permit him to do something, e.g. Job 1,2 and another when God seemed to have hardened the pharaohs heart in Exodus 8:15

The Bible is a mass of contradictions- the contradictions allow for the different Christian Denominations. It's sad but true. The BIble is not "God's Word" It is a storybook that was written by many men to explain their interpreteations. Let's address this supposed contradiction. Hebrew writers do not always distinguish between primary and secondary causes. So if God allowed Satan to tempt David as written in 1st Chronicles 21:1, then to them, the Hebrew writers that is, it was the same as if God did it. The non-believers get so excited when they find what they think is a contradiction in the Word of God. There just aren't any, only contradictions in man's interpretation of the Word of God. Kraz, the problem with the commandments is that some of them seem less important to me than things that were left out, like not owning slaves or not raping children. But I guess those just aren't as imporant as respecting your parents (whether they deserve it or not) or avoiding work on the Sabbath.

God could appear to all of us in an unambiguous way and spread his true message, but we would still be free to choose not to worship him, so the "free will" argument doesn't carry much weight. I have been studying the Bible mostly but have looked into some other religions. Thats not a very strong defence. When God flooded the Earth he had a reason; although the fact that Noah managed to get hold of two of every living thing, including the thousands of different insects, eracnids and reptiles, some of which have only been spotted a few times in man's existence, seems a little far fetched. In a parallel account to 2 Samuel 24:1, 1 Chronicles 21:1 says that Satan moved David to take a census. So who did it? Satan or God? The Chronicles version is more concerned about being precise: Because the census was clearly evil (David confessed it as a sin in verse 10)Satan was more directly responsible.

Instead, I ask the viewer to consider the explanatory power of the passage, compared to the idea that they both had a hand. Which mind you is your only response, in order to keep the bible inerrant a believer MUST say they both played a part. Hardly a that will lend itself to critical thought.
It is also plain that the various parties are guilty to different degrees. David has the least blame (though you say he admitted his sin) since he is under hand of forces he can't comprehend and react to, and besides he was incited. Nevertheless we can't define immoralities and evils based on our own opinions, now, can we? The Bible as we have it is the result of much compiling, after all, the oldest texts we have as of today, date to a time following the "retouching" of the even older texts (around the Babylonian exile period and after). For example, our version of the Pentateuch probably wasn't written by Moses like tradition says, but maybe Moses did write some books which were later abridged to the present Pentateuch.

Satan simply means "adversary". If God was angry with Israel at the time, he would have been an adversary to them. In many translations of the 2 Sam. it says something to the extent of "God burned AGAINST Israel" (emphasis added, of course). When you are against someone, you are their adversary...their Satan. You'd have to look at the exact translation of 2 Sam that the writer of Chronicles was using, and also know his understanding of God.

In my opinion I dont think The bible should usually be taken literally. The Bible is full of parables and metaphores as well as history (in my opinion) but to pigeon-hole minute details is futile. It was transcribed by men and therefore subject to fallible memory and perspective. But taken as a whole it is infinitely profound. Whether one believes in its ideology or not there is no denying the wisdom it holds in guiding a person through a good life

There are several instances in the bible were Satan challenges God to permit him to do something, e.g. Job 1,2 and another when God seemed to have hardened the pharaohs heart in Exodus 8:15

The Bible is a mass of contradictions- the contradictions allow for the different Christian Denominations. It's sad but true. The BIble is not "God's Word" It is a storybook that was written by many men to explain their interpreteations. Let's address this supposed contradiction. Hebrew writers do not always distinguish between primary and secondary causes. So if God allowed Satan to tempt David as written in 1st Chronicles 21:1, then to them, the Hebrew writers that is, it was the same as if God did it. The non-believers get so excited when they find what they think is a contradiction in the Word of God. There just aren't any, only contradictions in man's interpretation of the Word of God. You either believe or you don't.

None of the 10 Commandments can be seen to be anything but condusive to living an honest, loving, unselfish life. Why do so many argue the existence of a God that promotes these ideals? Kraz, how did you jump from Satan being loose to God not wanting to force people to love him? God could appear to all of us in an unambiguous way and spread his true message, but we would still be free to choose not to worship him, so the "free will" argument doesn't carry much weight. It's just a smokescreen for Christians to hide behind. Giving us all the relevant information does not equal forcing us into a course of action. And the Bible clearly isn't a reliable source of information.

thats a point you can find in satanism: The free-thinking attitude. by praising satan, you praise indirectly god, the creator. It's not the point that you HAVE to praise satan, i mean look at all those holy people (martyrs etc.). Most christians pray the rosary, for example (to maria!). so why should it be false to pray to satan while he is even an angel, an fallen angel but he has his tasks given by God. in fact and for summarizing God is at the top and not any stupid organisated religion.

Have you done any studying of the religions? I'm doing my homework now on both the Quran and Bible for knowledge on what path I should take.... It's important; however, for t his homework to be effective, you have to expose yourself to criticism, which means, looking at both sides of the coin. I have been studying the Bible mostly but have looked into some other religions. I look into the "evil" ones to compare them to the Bible and it seems freemasonry and satanism are the religions of the illuminati and the occult. Yes the "NWO" has to happen and no we can't stop it becuz the whole world would never believe this. I cannot speak for the "whining" Christians of which you mention. I can however tell you that this Christiam has never whined about being picked on. I have pleaded to those that have not accepted Jesus Christ as their savior to repent and do so for their salvation. There is but ONE way to the Father and that is through the Son. It boils down to a personal choice. My commandment from God is to spread the good news in his letter to Christians, The Holy Bible. He instruted me not to judge, therefore I don't. Even though I feel it is extremely important who is right, there is no way beyond interpretation of the event of prophecy, which we all know is open for debate, to prove who is right. Thats not a very strong defence. When God flooded the Earth he had a reason; although the fact that Noah managed to get hold of two of every living thing, including the thousands of different insects, eracnids and reptiles, some of which have only been spotted a few times in man's existence, seems a little far fetched. It is my belief that god was only in the bible for the first 34 verses. He was referred to as God. Begining in Genesis 2 god rests from all that he has made. Then a new god comes who goes by the name the Lord God. It is also my opinion that the term Lord is a term given to men not dieties. "The Lord is my shepard." is derogatory. Devaluing humanity. In a parallel account to 2 Samuel 24:1, 1 Chronicles 21:1 says that Satan moved David to take a census. So who did it? Satan or God? One explanation is that both are true.The Lord, as the ultimate power, allowed the census, and as typical in the O.T, He gets full credit in this account. The Chronicles version is more concerned about being precise: Because the census was clearly evil (David confessed it as a sin in verse 10)Satan was more directly responsible.

Instead, I ask the viewer to consider the explanatory power of the passage, compared to the idea that they both had a hand. It is also plain that the various parties are guilty to different degrees. David has the least blame (though you say he admitted his sin) since he is under hand of forces he can't comprehend and react to, and besides he was incited. Next is Satan who perhaps had a hand in the idea, though we do not even no if Satan too was incited. Finally the being with the ability to stop the genocide is at full blame as the bible itself says.

And as for God sending the plague Himself, my guess would be that David knew it was a sin but did it anyways, and God had to bring the consequences. I will look more into it though :)
