"As you can see ladies and gentlemen there was a small problem with the undercarriage" Of course there was. The pilot landed going too fast and thus there was too much force on the front landing gear to stop! Also when he landed, the front gear touched before the main gear did. Just another video of a bad pilot.
The pilot overstressed the nosewheel by touching down on it first instead of the main gear. One can see this at 0:25 and the plane bounces of the runway and touches down with the nose gear once again, but even harder. When the pilot applies the brakes the braking force finally causes the gear struts to fully fail: 0:32
@mclarenrock yes we would be faster, just let u know i was in service in airport, fire service ,and i can tell u that a fire brigade take up to 5 second or less to respond....u dick!!!!
I remember this...I remember thinking "it could have been a lot worse" - and let's be fair, this was no-where near as bad as it could have been. Thankfully.
I remember this, I was 12 back then and the smell of this burnt rubber and metal was horrible. They had to fly in some C-130's from lyneham to fill the lost time!
Ironically the previous year the same G222 crew legged it out the back because of a bird strike in the right engine. When it was found to be fine they were sent back to remove it from the runway, as they were told to do when landing. I believe they were retired from displays after this one due to their poor luck. I was sat opposite where it stopped upon the runway. It made for a very quiet hour of waiting.
I thought you would not recover the flight! took a nosedive and done track! risked much the pilot!

Good job of missing the fire department's initial attack of the fire with dry chemical extinguisher.
Glad they did not flood it with foam which would hamper the air show.
Cause? Landing looked OK and not "hard".
