  • Just made two whole trout for dinner earlier with some lemon and parsley, and was spitting out bones the entire meal. Wish I had seen this sooner!

  • that fish look good... i want some! sharing is caring :D

  • trout are a species of fish that fall into a category of fish that contain pin bones. Tuna, whitefish, and salmon are also in this category.

This method is great for eating trout in the 1/2lb class and under. I find if you cook smaller trout, the pin bones normally dissolve. In the 1/2lb + trout, the pin bones will not dissolve and thus they have to be removed. I usually end up filleting fish over 1/2lb and removing the pin bones. In trout over 5lbs, I usually take a pair of pliers to them.

  • or u just fillet the fish and u just eat it

  • i just came back from the sierras we caught 31 fish in a couple of days

  • Can't wait to try this next week!

  • what do thet taste like.....catfish???

  • @darrylhaynes similar to salmon

  • Neat. I discovered this method by accident when I picked the cooked fish up by the tail. I was considering butterflying the trout prior to cooking it, but I think this is easier.

  • You can tell that this guy is having fun. The trout looks delicious.

  • Very nice video. I've been looking up filleting vids, but I think this way suits me better.

  • Thanks for the video.

The bones are always the hardest part about eating small fish.

  • We usually eat it with the skin on. It's coated with flour and seasoning salt, so it tastes ok. Kind of crispy, very mild. If you don't like it, it usually peels off in almost one piece.

We're planning on going back up this Sept. and will have several new videos to post. Can't wait to try and hook that big one that got away last time.

  • I love trout but just wondering do you eat the skin? I have never heard of that and if you do does it taste pretty good?

  • "oh, cant wait to bite into this baby" sound kinda weird

  • how do the pin bones get remmoved r they attached to the ribs or the backbone.

  • it looked very romantic lol

  • mmmmmm looks delicious me and my buddy are gonna fish today :P

  • Thanks for the great comments. These are smaller trout @ 1lb. We do cook them first, sometime pan fried or wrapped in foil and BBQ'ed . We then de-bone them.

  • Does this method work when grilling trout?

  • hahahaha!

  • This looks like a good method for eating smaller trout.

  • NICE

  • Oh,,, I need to mention that my younger brother didn't understand your video and he commented about deboning. The trout in this video are cooked. He thought you ment to create fillets. We never fliilet fish unless is is a 12 plus pounder. We were raised that people fillet fish are lazy! Anyway, again great video!

  • Great video man! I will be over at the White River Arkansas fishing in about two to three weeks. I hope to catch a mess of rainbows for a fish fry back here in Texas with some friends.

  • @REGreenTeam White River off the beaver dam is one of the most excellent places in the country to catch rainbow, brown, and cutthroat trout! I'm about an hour away and have been going there since I was a kid :)

  • how did u cook them?

  • Very useful. Thanks a lot.

  • Very helpful - thanks!

  • um, this is usless pretty much no offence but, really well eat it howe we want its nt that hard

  • I never have understood why people debone or fillea a fish. Why not just go buy some fish sticks at the quickstop. Don't be a lazy eater !

  • Seriously? because if it's not seriously I guess it's funny but if it's not well.. seriously?

  • @Engineer245 uhhhhh buying fish sticks is the lazy way to eat fish

  • GREAT videos on the trout. I have tried your

method on trout and it works great. But I was still finding some small bones in the thicker pieces of meat. Almost like bones that were free floating in the meat. Like ones that were not hooked to anything else. Is this normal for trout or did I do something wrong? Thanks.

  • There are 5 or 6 bones on each side about 2/3 the way down from the mouth that are free-floating. Take a tine of your fork and just run it along the bottom half of the length of the body from the inside. Make sure you pull the fins out.

  • Yes a very few are normal. But a lot of times they are so small we just chew them up.

  • that was amazing! how the bones just came off i loved that i almsot made a remix of it comign off but i thought it was cool how it was great video.

  • you guys should of deboned the fish when you were guting it :)

  • a truly useful and nice video to watch :D thanks alot guys :D

  • You guys look like you have alot of fun!

  • We have a blast - lots of fish, great family beautiful camping area

  • Looks much easier than de-boning before cooking! What's your favorite way to cook them? How'd you cook them in this demonstration? Thanks!

  • Ha. This is why I love you tube.

My mother says "I like trout but I don't like the bones"

I look up "How to Debone Trout" and I find it immediately. Thank you gentlemen. :-)

  • You'r very welcome - Enjoy!

  • great eating tip! thxs!

  • Gonna give it a try right now!

  • Thanks, wierd question but I needed it - can't wait to eat mine - just cooked it! :)

  • Enjoy your trout. We're going back up this year to catch some more. Thanks for the comment.
