  • wow I'm stuned ! You've got some heart ! Thank you soo much for the tutorial!!! Keep up the good work :D

  • Mom .. I have fallen in love to my violin teacher

  • She's exited n inquiet in this video

    =P

  • i wish i could cut off all your hair so i could make clones of you and we would be able to have more women like you. instead we just have one of you and 2 billion bitches

  • Good vid; makes me want to play, but like all of my hobbies etc, I do it for a month, get bored and it will probably gather dust. But with the Violin, I think I could really make the effort.

Also, a small downside to posting videos on youtube for feedback, you can get creeps who just spam you with, well, spam. Thank you. You are an inspiration.

  • I bought a violin for about €100 a few years ago. Played for 2/3 weeks... when I wasn't tuning it or trying to make the pegs stay in place. Honesly, like is said in the video; go mid range, not cheap!

  • Can I use my cello bow or should I get a completely new bow?

  • Gday Taylor, I like your playing of the violin.I have just started playing the violin because I inherited a 130 year old violin handed down from my great grandfather. It's a Stratavarius copy made in Germany in th e1880s. My violin teacher said it sounds gorgeous. Lessons are not to pricey I pay $28 Australian for my weekly lesson and I have advanced reasonable well finishing the first Suzuki book in only 7 lessons. The hardest part to master is the semi quavers at the end of the book. Barry

  • Where's part 2?..=[ "Uploaded by ViolinTay on Mar 2, 2011"

  • @3THEDAI ditto. it's one month short from march of 2012

  • If i can give an advice; there are many non-english people around the world watching your videos, and it is kinda hard to understand all you can say only by listened, and it would be very very helpfull if we can read what you said. If you, or anybody else, would wrote in the description what you said (like if there where subtitle in english), many complete beginners would be able to understand this video or others tutorial. Sory for my language.

  • no offence, but i think the Bass is the best instrument but violin's ok

  • @Azer2424 wouldn't you mean that bass is your favorite? There isn't a best instrument

  • @Azer2424

violin + classic guitar she said

  • Correct. I just see different people setting rules for violin hold and related stuff, but thniking practically... everyone has different bodies. Some may have a bigger palm to adujst that 1 certain way this other guy suggets or may have a tall neck to not be able to hold firm with chin without a shoulder rest.

So is it with other related stuff.... hope i'm not being stupid.

  • i love you :)

  • I started playing the violin when I was 7.

I can't put it down now.

  • @TheDavidj26 Would you say 21 was too old for a complete begginer?

  • @superFrontrunner no, age doesn't matter. (If your under 70)

  • @superFrontrunner never is too old Im 65 and started 5 months ago and having alot of fun now ..do it ! never is too late to have fun and lern something new..the time passes the same

  • Hi i would like to learn the proper technique for vibrato. Thanks... please post a video about it..

  • @reagantitan24 hard to teach it over the internet or just text. for that you just have to practice alot. imo its easier to learn vibrato from a teacher. its quite simple but if your hand isn't developed enough it'll hurt really bad.

  • this is some1 who really cares about her fans..

  • Been playin violin for 8 years now still doesnt sound right lol but can play schindlers list though and it sounds sort of ok =]

  • Hi! I'm brasilian, I like of your videos, beautiful!!!

  • I love you. Thanks for putting up these videos., I can't wait to see more.

  • Thank you so much ViolinTay! I want to learn play violin too, since a while! ... I really wish i became capable and good like you!... And you're so kind to give us this violin teachings!

Thanks again lady! You're really gentle and gracious.

  • Bye! See you next time! :)

  • youtube/ugforthewin is way better and hott as hell ;3 xx

mwah!!! so talented. this is jus ok

  • YOU MIGHT CONSIDER CHANGEING THE NAME OF THIS VIDEO TO:

    "LISTEN TO ME RAMBLE ON"

LUST A THOUGHT, NOW YOU MAY RAMBLE ON.

  • speaking of cheesy pick up lines, i hope her husband isn't a tough guy, or we'll all be in trouble

  • @ammarwahab88 I'll take the risk.

  • There are some really cheesy pick up lines on here hahahaha

  • I like to play violin very much, because of your beautiful work, but there is a little problem, I live in Iraq and its easier for me to find an AK assault rifle than finding a violin

But I will find it at all costs

  • Please, stop being so cute coz' I can't hear any word you're talking..

  • Ahh. A ring. Go dernit.

  • You. Are. So. Beaultiful.

  • Whaaat! 500$? Thats very expensive... i bought mine for 70$... is my violin just a toy?

  • Thanks taylor... because of you i bought a violin... It's been two days since i have the violin... i almost got the all i ask... but one thing i cant do, how do you vibrate ur fingers? Evry tym i do that evry tng moves.. hehe.. i play piano, guitar, and banduria..

  • @reagantitan24 yes, well its the thing I have some trouble with as it is very different from guitar. Its quite complex actually and there is a few ways of doing it. at first it doesn't even seem physically possible :3 the trick is not doing vibrato at all ;)

  • I'm 13 and been playing for 6 years. I got frustrated and thought I would get nowhere but now I'm going to s special musical school and soon I'm goin on tour, all I have to say is make sure you stick yo it :)

  • I played viola for 6 years in school before scheduling reasons made it costly for me to continue. Some day I hope to pick it back up because I had a lot of fun and made a lot of friends during my time. Until I got to high school I always seemed to be the best in my section. Between that and guitar I hope to put my fingers to good use.

  • I've been playing the violin for almost 10 years now, I just watched this to listen to her ;D

  • What size violin do you have, 4/4 or 3/4? There's only two right? lol I'd like to start up again, stopped about 5 years ago, and had to return my rented violin.

  • I'll never be able to play violin :( I have a saxaphone, a guitar and a flute...but I can't play a violin...why'd I waste sixteen years on random instruments that I barely took time to learn?

  • I think it would be awesome if you posted up a beginner song/ tutorial deal, t'would be awesome!

  • Maybe a part 2-340958958 please? :)

  • You are so super in your videos.

    (sorry I don't speek english)

Please continue to play anime violin songs

    PS.I love your FMA ^song

  • I'll buy a Violin this Xmas.. thanks!

  • Nice practical tips

  • Though I did start playing before I found you, I'm really glad I did. In my eyes I'm still a beginner and just watching you play has been so inspiring to me just to stay at it and always try to get better and... I don't know, set standards for myself I guess. I hope to be as good as you one day so thank you just for doing what you do

  • Thank You soooooooooooooooooo much!! I know that you will help me I mean not only me but US (beginners)! Thank You so much! I'm so glad that I found this! and Thanks toGod because he helped me to discover my new talent and it's about playing the violin! =) I'm just a beginner too. honestly, you inspired me to play violin. because you're really great! Keep up the good work! Take Care & God Bless You! =)

  • I have bought a new violin. Should I have it professionally set up by my music teacher?

  • @ArRah101 well it would be better since you need to tune it and to set up the bridge you need see the right distance between the neck and the strings, is not hard you just some guidance like seen another violin that is already set up, but if its the first time you ever touched a violin better let youre teacher do it

  • What about the c sharp and fourth finger and octaves

  • Thank you for being born :)

  • you have an exelent posture

  • I play the clarinet since about 5th grade and Im now in college. Want to learn something new and just purchased a cheap violin(in case I hate it or i'm Terrible) so I'm excited.

  • @PrimaIsa2010 well let me tell you violin is hard and annoying to learn at first because no matter what you do, its almost imposible to make it sound right haha but believe with perseverance it will get better, i guess you know this since you play an instrument already but be patient and it will be a fun ride in life to learn violin :D

  • i was 11 when i started playing. 1800 for the violin. 500 for the bow. i take private lessons and since then i am 12.

  • thanks.... gracias por ser tan genial... god bless you :)

  • I think i should start learning it again, hving stopped learning for 10 years since i was a kid.

  • It is never too late to play an instrument. I started piano just last year and I'm already able to play one song

  • I've never played an instrument before (Well I had 1 year of general, required music lessons on school) but should I start with keyboard lessons and then move on to violin? please reply.

  • I wish we could meet I would pay you to help me with my violin :)

  • you are my idol!

  • u already married tay?

  • She is not married yet, or takes the alliance in the videos. The man who marries her will be a lucky guy.

  • you are amazing, i´ve seen many of your videos all of them are amazing, congratulations, especially the soundtracks of Final Fantasy because marked my life, I´m Brazilian I don´t speak english very well, but I really pleased to see your videos, I hope you always continue updating more videos! fantastic, thank you !

  • If I want a Middle C on a piano all I need to do is press a key.

If I want a C on a violin it is finger gymnastics. I tried...

Music for a violin might be easier to read though (if you are playing on your own) cause it is 1 clef. Piano = Note Spam...

  • Hi, just wanted to ask if it's okay to rest the base of your hand on the back of the neck of the violin? because I do that all the time and I'm not sure if it's a bad habit.

  • I just started bowing this week!! :) I got put with a bunch of littler kids who don't know a thing about music...so I've been bored out of my skull. (I've been reading music for seven years.) So I can't advance into a different class, but I'm a little ahead...

  • You have a beautiful smile

  • Hello, wonderful music that I want to congratulate and thank you for your comments. I'm from Argentina I'm learning violin alone I can not afford a teacher, I learn from books that I got some friends and I would ask if possible the music of "Titanic" qisiera someday learn to play as your apology if too much trouble thanks any help. (antumailin@yahoo.com.ar) Sorry for my bad English

  • so it has been 6 months....where's the follow up tutorial?

  • @laxplyr1982 yeah i´d like to know that too ^^

  • This question isn't specifically about violin, but I would like to learn piano and violin. Should I take one at a time or both? I am willing to put most of my free time into it, literally. Also, do you write music? I would love to hear some and, if you can, make a tutorial on writing music. I know it's about 90% inspiration, but anything will help.

  • hey i would like to ask you how old you are.

  • Hi !

I recorded myself on a voice recorder. It sounded like flutes, a disaster ! Is there a particular recorder you could suggest to me ? I am an adult Learner without a Teacher !

    Thanks.

  • I have quite an important question... I am left-handed, so I play the other way round... Do I have to look for specific left-handed violins or is a right-handed violin easy to convert into a left-handed one?

  • Hey I love your videos. Your playing is fantastic! I definitely want to pick up the violin one day but for now I'm starting the piano ;-) By the way where did you get that shirt it looks really nice on you and i really want to buy one. Thanks ahead of time!!

  • nice violin and nice voice ><

  • I wonder if you could see my video and make some comment please.

  • when you're at the purchasing page for violins. I noticed there are sizes... so... how do you know your violin size lol?

  • @rythiem11 usually u would go with 4/4 im 98% sure what violintay uses is also a 4/4 sized violin . the other are usually for kids since they arent as big

  • You are beautiful. Keep on helping people. :)

  • Just started the violin for 3weeks now. Renting aswell with an option to buy later with the payed rent as a discount. cost new 250euro, renting for 10euro/month. Following some "professorv" lessons on youtube now. He explains things pretty good and talks a lot slower than you :P on the other hand...you're a lot nicer to look at ;)

  • You never mentioned renting a violin. When I started, I used a rent-to-buy program to both get my violin and viola. It's much better for a beginner in my opinion to rent instead of buy because they may decide to quit after a short time.

  • you are the only reason why i want to start playing no one else as inspired me like you thanks for taking your time to teach(might not be in person but atleast you are making videos)but i need a few years inorder to buy a violin and the books you talked about but as soon as i get one ill be watching these 5000x every day to never quit teachers need to be like you seriously your great and awesome thanks for this GOD BLESS YOU VIOLINTAY!!!!!! =)

  • -Female here-but OMG you got a gorgeous voice!!!

-You mention Shar Instruments - ironic 'cause I actually RENT my violin from there. Only $16/month+complete warranty-instruments/strings etc. Renting it comes with violin, bow, rosin, case, stand, shoulder rest & beginner book.

As a beginner (Just started -26 here- after being motivated by you believe it or not) renting in my opinion is a great idea when you don't know what violin sound you like. Or how an instrument is supposed to sound like.

  • I have trouble with my left hand. I just got a violin that was super cheap and it does get out of tune easily. But that's not really my concern. I want to know if you can switch out the strings and use your right hand for the strings and bow with your right hand. I just started playing and i stink, but i want to know your thoughts on this switching of the strings, or anyone else's suggestions. =)

  • Would you think that playing the violin is much different than playing a guitar or a wind instrument? I'm asking because I'm self taught in a few instruments and one of my aspirations is to learn to play every instrument that I can before I die..

  • PLEASEEEEEEEE! Do a tips video soon!!!!!!! THANK U!

  • Do you recommend any particular type of rosin?

  • Just found you because i really wanted to play for a while but now i think i can actualy get one and start. I really apreciate you posting all these videos

  • great lesson...

  • What you're doing here is particularly cool.

  • Now, I really regret quitting. I miss playing my violin. Thanks for the wonderful videos you uploaded! :)

  • Wow youre really proper. LOL

  • OK I have subscribed to learn more from you!!

  • Thank you for uploading this. c: It was very informative. I just wish I had seen it when I had started playing. xP -Bought a $100 violin- I haven't had too many problems with it though. The pegs do slip and recently, my bridge came off, but it was all minor and easily fixed. At least, so far.

I can't wait for your videos on tips on how to play! : D

  • I'm not using any books but I have played guitar for 10 years and Piano for 4, and can basically hear the notes, main thing I needed was technique, but I am also a poor unemployed musician =P No chance you could upload a short list of just about 5-10 fairly simple songs to play for practicing? Just so I can find the sheet music on the net.

  • Whens the second tutorial coming? Itd be really useful to know how to hold the violin and bow! ^^

Just found your videos the other day and ur awesome, I subscribed right away (: If you dont mind me asking, how old are you?

  • I'm so sorry if I'm too rude.

  • Guess what? Watching you played Time scar made me took out my violin and played for the first time. Its a cheap violin. haha but anyways. I was watching your cover of Time scar and I tried doing it by ear too! Its on my channel!! (: my first day of playing. Please check and please give some advice!! THANK YOU!

  • I would love to someday learn to play the violin.

  • YOU SPEAKS TOO MUCH YOU'RE NOT TEACHING

  • @edwin2k11 lol Its just an introduction video, hopefully she'll make some lessons for us :D

  • @edwin2k11 @edwin2k11 It's an introduction you moron. Have some respect, she isn't getting paid to do this anyways, so I don't get what your problem is EVEN if she taught you nothing. She is being a very good teacher, preparing us for what we got to do. I am a musician myself, and I sort of picked it up from being a young guy, I never went to classes for it, and i struggled for years until I finally found one instrument that stole my heart, and suits me!

  • @edwin2k11 you jerk, how dare you say that about my inspiration!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I have been watching video after video of violin music. Love the sound. I was on the fence about learning until I saw your videos. So amazing and inspirational. I am now saving for a violin and will buy one asap while continuing to watch your videos. Thank you.

  • I will definitely try violin, once I will be able to afford one. I wish I could play like you one day.

  • Hi Taylor

Thanks a lot for the beginner tutorial. I already bought my first violin and i noticed a wood chip come out of it. It hasnt affected my sound yet (I still get good sound) but i paid about 200$ for the violin, case, bow, rosin, and shoulderpiece. Im expecting to keep going with it until I get a bit better but you mentioned about spending about 500$ on a good violin, my question is what brand is a "good" brand in the 500$ range?

  • @rohontsiawaks I haven't been playing nearly as long as Taylor, but I consider Cremona and Yamaha to both be solid brands. I've also heard good things about the sub-$1,000 violins at Shar Music. As she says, though, it depends on your preference and playing style, so find a store that allows rentals or a long trial period, and just try stuff out.

  • I started playing the violin when I was 21. I hadn't had a music class since 6th grade, and that was keyboard and acoustic guitar, so all I knew was how to read music, which I needed to brush up on, anyway.

I haven't had any lessons, but I taught myself through the Essential Elements book/cd combo book. That's all I needed. You play along with a CD so you know if you're in tune or not.

Since then, I've taught myself how to play the viola and the flute. It's never too late.

  • I think two ideal videos for lessons are:

    "Vibrato" and also "Shifting techniques"

  • YOU SHOULD TOTALLY PLAY JUST THE WAY YOU ARE!!!!! I LOVE THAT SONG!! AND I PLAY THE VIOLIN TOO! BUT I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO VIBRATO

  • I'm gunna start violin next month and I see lot's of violinists shaking there head or doing something with there head. I wanted to know if there is a specific reason for this?

  • This was really useful thank you so much for making time to do this for us :)

  • have a great start.. hope it will be useful for a lotta people.

  • Heya! Thanks for your videos) It's a great idea to start making tutorials as I'm one of those who just started playing (inspired by you, btw ^_^). I have 2 questions:

    1) What type of violin would you recommend? I have a usual acoustic violin, but I really want to get an electronic one. Is there any difference?

    2) How do you record the sound? A simple microphone doesn't give the quality I want: it records all the ambient noises. Do you use a pickup? What kind of pickup?

  • Comment removed

  • I'm 44 and was thinking that it was too late, but after watching your videos, I think i'll give it a go.

  • @TwistD2002 I started playing at 41, do it! Its not too late! :) I've played for about 11 years now.

  • @jack002tuber awsome i started at 22 :D so we can do it! :D

  • This was helpful! I am one of those older men who would like to try something that I have said I would like to do, but never did! I did not catch the name of the beginner book you referred to, would you repeat the book for beginners.

  • I have just started playing the violin, and have been really attached to it. The current violin that i use is a - Fender FV1 -, however I wouldn't say that the shoulder rest is the most comfortable. What kind of shoulder rest can you suggest I can get, that can fit properly this violin.

  • i dont play the violin i dont want to but in a weird way i watched all the video to the end just because i liked your voice xD :)

  • Thanks for the video Taylor. I've been thinking about trying out violin lately and this video was helpful.

  • How often do you practice, and for how long?

  • i like her shes a nice lass dnt see many women like her

  • This was really helpful and very interesting. You're fun to listen to, haha. While I don't have a violin and don't really have the time for it just yet, I might want to start at some point in my life at the very start. I learned some new things today, at least! :] So yeah, thanks! And looking forward to more of these!

  • I wanna play the piano so I can play To Zanarkand and Aerith's Theme stuff like that. but nice vid though! Hey, have you played anything from FF8?

  • Great tutorial! I'm glad you made it and I look forward to your next ones :). When you mentioned about books to get I looked down and saw my String builder book in front of me xD, one thing to note for people who are new to reading music is that the names differ from the UK to America. For example what the book calls a half note I would call a minim.

Keep up the good work :D.

  • It's true, there's no such thing as "too late to start." I started at 31, and I'm at about the same place as any other 3rd-year student. It's not about how old you are, it's about how much practice you've put in. The flipside of that is that you will not be an instant expert. As an adult, you get used to learning things quickly, but skill is a function of practice time; it may be a few years before you feel ready to play for friends, family, or strangers.

  • I started learning 10 months ago, at the age of 57!! And its the first instrument I have ever picked up in my life. I try to practice at least an hour each day, and my goal is to simply play along with some tunes on the radio. Now I can play about 60 songs, and I have them on my MP3 player and have a blast with that. That's not to say that I play them WELL, but for me I feel I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to play and express myself through the music.!!

  • Hey you look so pretty and COOL ~

  • It's like they say: the disciple becomes the master ^^

Very good tutorial, Tay, I play the violin for like... 6 months, I guess, and this is really useful for those who are beggining to play right now! Good work

  • Please continue with the tuts, they are great!

For people who are looking for brands, if you really don't know you can simply go for Yamaha Student violins AV5 (different sizes), they are very dependable and high quality student violins with bow and case and priced around $300-$400. They have also professionall setup right from factory to meet national standard for music education. (MENC) (I am not affiliated with Yamaha, but they are sure bet if you starting)

  • omg thank you

  • Very well done :) Moving from six years of playing bass clef instruments (bassoon and euphonium) to a treble clef string instrument was hard, but very rewarding so far :) I wish I had a video like this to watch when I first started. Luckily for me though my teacher also fixes and sells violins so I bought my new (well, new to me anyways considering it's from about 1850), so I had a lot of help picking out a good instrument. Very informative though and keep up the good work :)

  • I just bought a violin today! can't wait to start to play some music. I've made excellent progress with the woodwinds and percussion and am so looking forward to breaking into the string family

  • I just bought a violin today. I have had wonderful luck with percussion and wind instruments but have never done that well with the strings. (ex. guitar). I'm hoping that I will fair better with the violin. I will be watching your posts for little tips I can use to improve. At least I don't have to struggle with having to learn how to read music. I was wondering where you got some of your sheet music though. I really love the Pan's Labyrinth, and the celtic music. Keep up the excellent work!

  • You, Tay are a model youtuber! Im so impressed by your altruism. I dont know how some YT musicians with tons of subscribers, Im talking over 60000 loyal, loving even idolising fans, could lack the motivation to do a short tutorial to elaborate or demonstrate their technique to their audience or anything to give back to the YT community that loves them so. Thanks you on behalf of all your fans for doing this. You are a wonderful person ^_^

  • the military look is very good on you =] very informative video btw

  • Grade 4 and I am still using the £30 violin I started with lol

  • wow... the way you talk, it's like you're really talking to me(or us... the viewers)....

anyway i've been wanting to play the violin, and want to thank you for these advices.

if ever i get started playing the violin (and get better), can you post links or share any music sheets?

  • Would you recommend reading some books before even buying a violin? Or is it best to have the violin next to you while reading? & how awesome is it, that you actually reply to people :)!

  • hey i just started to play violin some time ago all the song i know are ode to joy we will rock u and others and im kinda getting really good at it but u r way ahead of me and if ur still gonna make a tutorial ill be glad and wat else was was that u r the greatest violin player in know song r amzing and u inspired me to keep trying so thank u for that

  • Love this video, I am a beginner.

    Thank you again

  • I dont know why, but I just love to listen to you talking.

    Thanks for he vid!

  • you should do a tutorial on vibrato techniques, it can be pretty helpful to lots of people :)

  • so cute

  • you are ma teacher from now on if i get good you help me if not then i suck lol

  • how to I do vibrato? I've been playing for 1.5 years

  • tay is cute

  • Comment removed

  • you are very cute =p

  • Thanks Tay! ^.^

  • Very informative. I don't even play violin and I found this interesting. :)

  • @VirtualHarmonies Aww thanks!

  • Who picks up the money for Taylor? :)
