if you've never used a touch screen, they go out of calibration about every 10 hours. All you gotta do is, in your case, aim lower than where you want to touch. But I guess that wouldn't make sense... lol
I really think that paper would be easier. Less problems, more accurate. Yes counting is faster with electronic machines but its more accurate and faster to vote on a piece of paper. Sometimes old school works better.
Ummm... Only an idiot would let a machine tell them what political party they are affiliated with... So why don't you let your hair dryer tell you how to vote in 2012?? IDIOT....

Mobstar2008 you are a fucking dumb ass if you know anything Mccain will most likely lose and these voting problems happen to republicans also you dumb shit
reptillia - And Republicans think democrates r nieve. electronic databases can easily be manipulated. You can write "procedures" to have a database do anything you want it to. database tables can get currupted true, but they also can be manipulated at the "views" so that what you see at the "GUI" interface is not really what's happening in the database. If you press Dem button, you might be selecting Rep. Paper trail please.
Please understand that you MUST FORCE YOUR elections boards and Secretaries of State to REMOVE ALL electronics from our elections!
It is not just the shitty touch-screen voting machines that are mangling and destroying your votes. It is also the vote-stealing opscan machines that "count" paper ballots fed into them and internally transform YOUR choices into ITS choices. You REALLY want to choose your government? The only choice: PAPER BALLOTS HAND-COUNTED IN PUBLIC AT THE POLLS!
I applaud anyone who'd take the time to articulate a "just plain wrong" problem and share it. If it can happen to her it can happen to you, no matter what side of the fence or line you're standing on. All it takes is for one person to be silent regarding something bad and the bad wins. I find it disturbing that this would happen ANYWHERE given the circumstances of the last 2 elections.
Electronic voting must go away...permanently. Paper ballots, paper trails, paper receipts for voters to keep, and NOT the kind with ink that fades after 30 days, like the crap you get from Diebold ATM machines.
This on screen flipping of votes is irrelevant. What matters is what the machine is recording which may have nothing to do with what is shown on the screen. There is zero way to audit the results and so unless a paper ballot is used which can be re-counted at a later date, there is no way of knowing what is the correct vote tally
Keep in mind that the poll workers cannot look at her ballot to see exactly what is happening, in order to keep the ballot secret. The fix would be to cancel the electronic ballot and give the voter a paper ballot.
Obvious voter fraud is not the kind that works. It is a calibration error. The state bought cheaply-made machines because there was not enough revenue to buy good ones.
The machines were bought all at once, just in time to comply with federal disability laws.
The U.S. desperately needs to rediscover paper ballot 'technology'. You can't trust the result with these machines. Use paper. Mark an X. Count the ballots in front of monitors from all parties. The counting will take longer. Voting machine cos. won't make money. But you'll be able to trust in your democracy again.
If you care about what's going on during this election, you must watch this interview about vote rigging. It's an interview from Democracy Now earlier today with 2 leading experts in electronic voting machines. (there are 3 parts to the interview)
Why are they allowing these machines to be used? Would you trust an ATM that constantly switched what you selected so that it gives you $20 but takes $200 out of your account? Obviously, these people don't care about your vote.
If they really wanted to cheat why would they have done it so you can see it and report it to everyone and why would she have finally been allowed to vote Democrat. This sounds more like a calibration error than anything.
this would be for plausible deneyability if you do rig the system and get caught you simply blame it on corrupt machines and do another election instead of face jail time or worse.
What I'm saying is how many testimonials for this supposed election fraud do you have. Two at assuming two different booths with two different machines. How is that going to really effect an election assuming it's election fraud. Let alone the fact that it still let them vote Democrat and so whats the point. The point of election fraud is to keep people from voting who they want to and in this case whoever was trying to do that totally and fully failed.

Think ahead to a total physical vote count and who does it. You folk need to remove your blinders for a moment and quit jumping on every bit of anti voting crap that is on Fox.
Wow, are you the poster child for the "Persecution Complex Channel", or what? I need prove nothing to any one. If you can't see the dangers of running on the political track, stay on the bench. Oh and maybe if you read the election process codes you will need not feel any burden, you will know. 101, Who counts the votes in a run off, who calls for a recount vote and who counts the votes in a runoff. WHO COUNTS THE VOTES IN A RUNOFF ???
Yes you do in an argument when you are trying to prove something the burn of proof is on you to prove there is actual misconduct going on. Just because it can happen doesn't mean it will or that someone will do it.
As for the runoff votes. We have whats called "instant runoff voting" because we don't have a runoff vote. So to answer your question, no one.
As a whole we have no runoff vote system. If you are talking about 2000 that was a recount system. There is no runoff voting for the high offices of government (Pres. etc. etc.) in the United States.
Finally a straight answer. How does it make you feel that we have no system to regulate the counting of votes on a federal level, in the event of voting machine screwup. What happens if multiple states with electronic voting fall on their faces. Guess which states will fail?? hint: same as it ever was..
It's all about not having a system that guarantees that all votes are counted. What will Pelosi do with the burden of a federal election breakdown?? Scarry huh.... peace..
We don't have a federal system because that would be against the constitution. It says specifily the job of running the polling places, counting the votes, and how the elections should be run is up to the states.
80% of the vote is counted by some form of electric machine so if your implying that the machines are going to screw up because they are rigged in the those battleground states than I have some snake oil to sell you.

I hope your faith in the system beats out my faith in system failure, like Fla. in 2k and Ohio in 04. Oh and I was one of the engineers at Ford that discovered the infamous GM mystery "check engine" lite. It took us almost 2 years to discover how it was done. In the field of computer science there are no sure things, except failure.
Fox news & repubs try to blame dems for voter fraud???? It seems to all be in favor if the repubs. Repubs are terrified of not being the dictators anymore.
While I can symapthize with this person, touchscreen technology is a very poor technology when used for public access. What is needed here is informed poll workers who can help people better. If there is a problem with a machine, don't give the person bad information, there needs to be a process where they can try voting from another machine. Fraud would be if you selected a canidate, and it said that you voted for that canidate, but it really tallied it for the other party.
No offense, but Americans are stupid. When I vote, I use a pencil to mark an X beside my candidate on a paper ballot. And before I go to bed, I know who won the election and there's no controversy about votes disappearing from some silly computer. And a pencil doesn't need recalibrating. Maybe some sharpening, but not recalibrating. Do Americans not understand the fundamental principles of a pencil? Too complicated?
Fuck you, Do you actually think the American citizens choose the methods by which we elect our officials. Wanna know what else you can do with your pencil??
If Obama and his campaign dont do something about this shit, they gonna be sitting there and those dumb fucks calling themselves republicans would steal this election right under their noses. Then what the fuck running for election for 2 years and taking all kinds of nasty shots from the GOP only to be a victim of a rigging machine programmed to get republican votes. What is this? a third world political scam? Somebody in there ought to report this to the Feds or to those in charge. Its a crime.
If this was really election fraud why would they allow them to still vote Democrat after X amount of tries instead of not at all? Or why would they put it out there for everyone to see when it would be easier to change them in the backroom. This isn't election fraud but a machine error.
Cuz the repugs are dumb asses. They do their dirty business in broad daylight in order to fool the public that nothing fishy is going on. These are the same people who would look you straight in the eye and lie their teeth out with no conscience. Those machines should be checked and monitored and the rouge people held accountable if found. period.
Yes but if they do that then they are busted and no more GOP. It's retarded. Not only that even in the another vid they show a successful calibration of one of the machines the it supposedly votes a Republican vote for Ralph Nader. So who's stealing the election there? If you are that paranoid to still think the GOP is some evil conglomerate steeling votes then I don't know what to say because obviously its a machine error that just needs to be fixed.
I read on HuffingPost from a poster that a friend of his was feeling a little remorseful after having programmed several Diebold machines to work ineffectively. Don't know how credible this is, but it did raise a few eyebrows on the blog.
The Huffington Post is about like listen to Fox News. Reading anything there should at best be taken at face value and really researched so you can draw your own conclusions but that tends to be the way with most media anyway.
Purple, this country has the technology to detect a microchip coming across its borders. We can see galaxies and other planetary formations through a hubble telescope, but can't fix a voting machine? I guess it depends on one's agenda.
If you watch one other videos, I believe its called "WVA Vote Flipping Caught on Tape" which is really ironic since none was caught, it shows the poll aid fixing the calibration and it working fine after that. So yes it works.
The point is there should not be any problems - period. There was more than enough time to test the equipment before deploying to a live environment. Perhaps, you have laxed, inferior standards when it comes to system implementations, but I don't. My project managers know I don't mess around and expect results - period.
So you have worked with touch screens I assume and because at my job we have scanners with touch screens that often need to be recalibrate and sometimes have to be sent back because it was manufactured wrong. Go see "WVA Vote Flipping Caught on Tape" and you'll see that after he recalibrate it it works fine.
Go watch the video again. He hits the straight Democrat ticket and it brings up all the Democrats. Then he hits Ralph Nader. Then there is a cut in the video when it comes back we still see that Ralph Nader is selected so we can only assume they were just cutting out unnecessary stuff. He hits the straight Republican ticket next and he claims it needed to be "recalibrated" again when really it was how the computer was programmed. Single vote select is counted over straight vote.
The commentary was from a poster, not an editorial from a HP journalist. However, that post planted a seed of distrust in the minds of voters going to the polls.
There hasn't been a legitimate election since Kennedy... and when there was, look what happened. We have been working with computers for more than 20 years now - so don't tell me we haven't been able to fix this problem. This is not an accident.
Isn't the whole point of vote flipping so it registers wrong the WHOLE time. Kinda defeats the purpose if those evil Republicans don't get there not so stolen votes.
I'm a computer programmer and I know that moving a computer (which is what these machines are) doesn't affect the program in them. What she describes isn't a problem of "calibration"! That explanation is to hide the fact that these machines have been pre-programmed to act this way.
Alright then smart guy if they were pre-programmed to do that then why was she finally able to get it to correctly register her vote. I also have done computer programming and why would you set a variable like that where after so many pushes it works when it would be much easier to just set it to never work. It was a calibration issue nothing more nothing less.
Ok, purplecharger88, I'll bite. I've used touch screen on an ATM and other kiosks without error. Why won't they deploy the technology that works instead of using the faulty systems they have in place now? Calibration my ass.
Even the computer programmed casino slot machines are better calibrated than the electronic voting boxes.
The point is technology is supposed to solve problems, not create them. You dig?
But often it does create problems I'm assuming as an IT person you've heard all about Vista.
Here's the point it does work but people continue to highlight the small, few times it doesn't work. Most people would call this selection bias where you remember the times it doesn't work and forget all the times it does because it goes against your already perceived conclusion that it doesn't work.
How come Nevada hasn't had issue? And that's just one state there are many more that use e-voting.
I'm also an IT professional and you're absolutely right. It's a programming issue. And, it was deliberate. Someone had some serious confidence issues about winning an election fair and square - and added a little bit of insurance.
Then why would they do it so everyone and there dog could see it? Isn't that rather stupid.
"Well, sir, it seems that all the machines are programed like that."
It makes no scene anyone with common scene would see it but all the could round up was two people out of ALL the states that use hundreds if not thousands of these machines. It is very much a calibration issue.
I don't know what happened to my earlier response, but here's a repeat. I don't know where you're getting your intelligence, but it has been largely reported on urban radio stations of wide-spread anomalies with the voter machines - touch screens to the tune of tens of thousands. People call into an 800-number and report all kinds of trickery - including problems with voting equipment. This is not coincidence.
And again I say why would they make it clearly viable in front of everyone's face when it could be much easier to do it behind closed doors. This isn't voter fraud its a calibration issue.
Everywhere else on the planet when voting you have is a piece of paper with candidates names and boxes and a pencil for the voter to use. No expensive fancy computers that need "recalibrating" just hard real world ballots that can be counted quickly, with a minimal chance of being lost or voters casting a ballot for the wrong candidate. But no America has to waste their democracy and their economy with ridiculously expensive, inaccurate and unreliable machines that FAIL.
what will it take for people to realize that these machines were created for the hack? another stolen election? Or do D's just get called sore losers again? Or are the D's not making a stink because they might win and learn how to miscalibrate the machines themselves?
What you see on the screen has NO relation whatsoever to how the machines record the vote anyway. What's happening inside the machine is what matters and we are told its proprietary information and we are not allowed to find out. It is literally black box voting. Congrats America, you've been totally hoodwinked.
The real funny thing is even if the vote looks right the result can be manipulated by a simple hack. I hate this machines. If Barack gets in I hope he bans these machines.
They company that manufactures and ships the automated voting machines somehow "missed" this fatal flaw with the machines. This "little" problem was overlooked. From what I hear this problem isn't so little, it seems many of the automated voting machines have not been calibrated at all, or even have had their calibration checked.
I'm telling you people, we're just baby steps away from a fully blown dictatorship. IF JOHN MC CAIN IS ELECTED, GOD HELP US ALL.
Diebold and ES & S are GOP owned companies. they delivered the 2004 election to Bush as promised. the CEO was even quoted on CNN prior to the election that Bush would win in '04.
the Republicans WILL attempt to steal this election as well. it's really the only way Mc Cain can win at this time, by STEALING our votes from us.
...for making us aware of this alarming breach of election security. And especially for alerting your Secretary of State's office about the problem IMMEDIATELY. I can't tell you how much your actions mean to this broken-hearted, Florida voter.
As a Sarasota, Florida County Voter, I am all-too aware of what happens with the unreliable, faulty, paper-less touchscreen voting machines. In 2006, Sarasota county's ES&S iVotronics "disappeared" 18, 412 votes--14% of the county's elecorate--showed NO RECORD of votes being cast in the Congressional District race.
Over 300 Sarasota voters complained of the very same problems voting that this voter describes in her testimony...

And why is McCain is smirking all the time - saying he is going to win? and saying, he have Obama where he wants him?

Fraud would be if you selected a canidate, and it said that you voted for that canidate, but it really tallied it for the other party.

No offense, but Americans are stupid. When I vote, I use a pencil to mark an X beside my candidate on a paper ballot. And before I go to bed, I know who won the election and there's no controversy about votes disappearing from some silly computer. And a pencil doesn't need recalibrating. Maybe some sharpening, but not recalibrating. Do Americans not understand the fundamental principles of a pencil? Too complicated?

No offense:
Fuck you, Do you actually think the American citizens choose the methods by which we elect our officials. Wanna know what else you can do with your pencil??

"Hillary Backers Decry Massive Obama Vote Fraud"
then tell us who the crook is...OBAMA has already stole this election
jonnynocksville 3 years ago
If Obama and his campaign dont do something about this shit, they gonna be sitting there and those dumb fucks calling themselves republicans would steal this election right under their noses. Then what the fuck running for election for 2 years and taking all kinds of nasty shots from the GOP only to be a victim of a rigging machine programmed to get republican votes. What is this? a third world political scam? Somebody in there ought to report this to the Feds or to those in charge. Its a crime.
WisdomWins4u 3 years ago 2
If this was really election fraud why would they allow them to still vote Democrat after X amount of tries instead of not at all? Or why would they put it out there for everyone to see when it would be easier to change them in the backroom. This isn't election fraud but a machine error.
purplecharger88 3 years ago
Cuz the repugs are dumb asses. They do their dirty business in broad daylight in order to fool the public that nothing fishy is going on. These are the same people who would look you straight in the eye and lie their teeth out with no conscience. Those machines should be checked and monitored and the rouge people held accountable if found. period.
WisdomWins4u 3 years ago
Yes but if they do that then they are busted and no more GOP. It's retarded. Not only that even in the another vid they show a successful calibration of one of the machines the it supposedly votes a Republican vote for Ralph Nader. So who's stealing the election there? If you are that paranoid to still think the GOP is some evil conglomerate steeling votes then I don't know what to say because obviously its a machine error that just needs to be fixed.

Republican Senator from Nebraska Chuck Hagel ownes one of the touch screen voting machine companies - google
Senator Hagel Admits Owning Voting Machine Company
This is why McCain is making such a big deal about the polls tightening. They are laying the ground for another election theft.
Polls showed Gore had a nice lead going into the 2000 election. And exit polling confirmed this.

None of the videos tell you what would happen if you are voting for a Republican,
I guess they weren't concerned about what happens the their votes.

I guess they were too busy posting Obama rallies to care.

I read on HuffingPost from a poster that a friend of his was feeling a little remorseful after having programmed several Diebold machines to work ineffectively. Don't know how credible this is, but it did raise a few eyebrows on the blog.
GingerBronze 3 years ago
The Huffington Post is about like listen to Fox News. Reading anything there should at best be taken at face value and really researched so you can draw your own conclusions but that tends to be the way with most media anyway.
purplecharger88 3 years ago
Purple, this country has the technology to detect a microchip coming across its borders. We can see galaxies and other planetary formations through a hubble telescope, but can't fix a voting machine? I guess it depends on one's agenda.
GingerBronze 3 years ago
If you watch one other videos, I believe its called "WVA Vote Flipping Caught on Tape" which is really ironic since none was caught, it shows the poll aid fixing the calibration and it working fine after that. So yes it works.
purplecharger88 3 years ago
The point is there should not be any problems - period. There was more than enough time to test the equipment before deploying to a live environment. Perhaps, you have laxed, inferior standards when it comes to system implementations, but I don't. My project managers know I don't mess around and expect results - period.
GingerBronze 3 years ago
So you have worked with touch screens I assume and because at my job we have scanners with touch screens that often need to be recalibrate and sometimes have to be sent back because it was manufactured wrong. Go see "WVA Vote Flipping Caught on Tape" and you'll see that after he recalibrate it it works fine.
purplecharger88 3 years ago
I tell you what, Purple, if they show a machine that switches a republican vote to a democrat, then it's a calibration issue. If not, it's fraud.
GingerBronze 3 years ago
no it doesn't, it votes for Nader on the straight republican ticket...
digiprez77 3 years ago
Go watch the video again. He hits the straight Democrat ticket and it brings up all the Democrats. Then he hits Ralph Nader. Then there is a cut in the video when it comes back we still see that Ralph Nader is selected so we can only assume they were just cutting out unnecessary stuff. He hits the straight Republican ticket next and he claims it needed to be "recalibrated" again when really it was how the computer was programmed. Single vote select is counted over straight vote.
purplecharger88 3 years ago
The commentary was from a poster, not an editorial from a HP journalist. However, that post planted a seed of distrust in the minds of voters going to the polls.

There hasn't been a legitimate election since Kennedy... and when there was, look what happened. We have been working with computers for more than 20 years now - so don't tell me we haven't been able to fix this problem. This is not an accident.
DoctorSarvis 3 years ago
Isn't the whole point of vote flipping so it registers wrong the WHOLE time. Kinda defeats the purpose if those evil Republicans don't get there not so stolen votes.
purplecharger88 3 years ago
Ask for a paper ballot when you vote. You don't have to vote on these machines.
selectordubu 3 years ago
I'm a computer programmer and I know that moving a computer (which is what these machines are) doesn't affect the program in them. What she describes isn't a problem of "calibration"! That explanation is to hide the fact that these machines have been pre-programmed to act this way.
osdias 3 years ago
True true...
silent1983 3 years ago
Alright then smart guy if they were pre-programmed to do that then why was she finally able to get it to correctly register her vote. I also have done computer programming and why would you set a variable like that where after so many pushes it works when it would be much easier to just set it to never work. It was a calibration issue nothing more nothing less.
purplecharger88 3 years ago
Ok, purplecharger88, I'll bite. I've used touch screen on an ATM and other kiosks without error. Why won't they deploy the technology that works instead of using the faulty systems they have in place now? Calibration my ass.
Even the computer programmed casino slot machines are better calibrated than the electronic voting boxes.
The point is technology is supposed to solve problems, not create them. You dig?
GingerBronze 3 years ago
But often it does create problems I'm assuming as an IT person you've heard all about Vista.
Here's the point it does work but people continue to highlight the small, few times it doesn't work. Most people would call this selection bias where you remember the times it doesn't work and forget all the times it does because it goes against your already perceived conclusion that it doesn't work.
How come Nevada hasn't had issue? And that's just one state there are many more that use e-voting.
purplecharger88 3 years ago
I'm also an IT professional and you're absolutely right. It's a programming issue. And, it was deliberate. Someone had some serious confidence issues about winning an election fair and square - and added a little bit of insurance.
Talk about white collar crime.
GingerBronze 3 years ago
Then why would they do it so everyone and there dog could see it? Isn't that rather stupid.
"Well, sir, it seems that all the machines are programed like that."
It makes no scene anyone with common scene would see it but all the could round up was two people out of ALL the states that use hundreds if not thousands of these machines. It is very much a calibration issue.
purplecharger88 3 years ago
I don't know what happened to my earlier response, but here's a repeat. I don't know where you're getting your intelligence, but it has been largely reported on urban radio stations of wide-spread anomalies with the voter machines - touch screens to the tune of tens of thousands. People call into an 800-number and report all kinds of trickery - including problems with voting equipment. This is not coincidence.
GingerBronze 3 years ago
And again I say why would they make it clearly viable in front of everyone's face when it could be much easier to do it behind closed doors. This isn't voter fraud its a calibration issue.
purplecharger88 3 years ago
this is terrorist acts for real these folks running these machines need to go to jail...
darktrayu2 3 years ago
Everywhere else on the planet when voting you have is a piece of paper with candidates names and boxes and a pencil for the voter to use. No expensive fancy computers that need "recalibrating" just hard real world ballots that can be counted quickly, with a minimal chance of being lost or voters casting a ballot for the wrong candidate. But no America has to waste their democracy and their economy with ridiculously expensive, inaccurate and unreliable machines that FAIL.

what will it take for people to realize that these machines were created for the hack? another stolen election? Or do D's just get called sore losers again? Or are the D's not making a stink because they might win and learn how to miscalibrate the machines themselves?
honestcow 3 years ago
What you see on the screen has NO relation whatsoever to how the machines record the vote anyway. What's happening inside the machine is what matters and we are told its proprietary information and we are not allowed to find out. It is literally black box voting. Congrats America, you've been totally hoodwinked.
bgregg55 3 years ago 3
The real funny thing is even if the vote looks right the result can be manipulated by a simple hack. I hate this machines. If Barack gets in I hope he bans these machines.

freshpinesent 3 years ago 3
For the love of god.

The machines are not unreliable-they are functioning exactly as intended-to steal votes from Obama.
You are legally entitled to a paper ballot. Insist on it. Make a fuss.
12stringsforme 3 years ago 2
Republicans are going all out to steal the election AGAIN. This would make three in a row.
In order for Obama to have any chance at all, he has to win by more than 10%, because the republicans can steal at least that much.

...for making us aware of this alarming breach of election security. And especially for alerting your Secretary of State's office about the problem IMMEDIATELY. I can't tell you how much your actions mean to this broken-hearted, Florida voter.
And thank you again, Video the Vote.
I'm yours.
jeanniedean 3 years ago
As a Sarasota, Florida County Voter, I am all-too aware of what happens with the unreliable, faulty, paper-less touchscreen voting machines. In 2006, Sarasota county's ES&S iVotronics "disappeared" 18, 412 votes--14% of the county's elecorate--showed NO RECORD of votes being cast in the Congressional District race.
Over 300 Sarasota voters complained of the very same problems voting that this voter describes in her testimony...
Thank you so much, Mrs. Methaney...
