Good news! The waters off Oregon are NOT too cold for the many species of Pacific octopi.

In fact, many people fish for them, off the Alaska coast. (They're quite tasty, I'm told.)

So, with a bit of effort on your part, you could indeed have your own octopus encounter.

The siphon, in addition to being used for movement, and breathing, also is used for ink-clouds, waste removal, and reproduction. Hope this was thorough enough!
