  • doference between cutaway and fly away?

i always thought a fly away was a layout.

  • A fly away IS another term for layout... more used in gymnastics high-bar though... but thats why its called a fly away HALF... its not really a cut-away because I'm not setting and cutting from the bar... I'm laid out the whole way and just halfing out.. I guess you could call it a reverse-layout half... but that doesn't sound as good! ;-)~

  • Dude, that sucks! :)

Hey! I'm in the video clip too! (The loser who gets to take the riser away, important job ya know...)

  • I just keep think about this. It's probably, you have to have a patience not to travel this, that it might be a poor choice for a lot of fliers. But for you, I think you could rudi this thing!

  • the hard part is getting the beats right, theres four of them! I've learned that the first two beats actually have to be kinda small and short, then you beat forward hard and then you drive the heels up hard and come off the bar with a little push. In the vid you can see my arms bend when I come off the bar, but they should be straight the whole way top get a good strong drive. As far as a another whole twist, maybe..Im just not a twister, hell, I just learned my full all over again!

  • Are you considering the first beat the hollow over the board, and the second your sweep back? Then third is the forward and fourth is legs up to the release? Did you make this skill up? I've never seen anyone else do it

  • correcto'mundo!... thats how you do it.

actually.... I learned it from Mack from St Lucia. If I only had video of him doing it... he gets crazy high when he throws it!.

  • well, i think it looks great! and using this technique you get the additional lift of your force-out over the board, which when you sweep right into that feet up set like some people do on their cut-halfs, you lose that potential height. very silky. more vids please! have you ever tried to twist this?

  • kaz, I really like this skill. I sat here contemplating, what are the advantages over a traditional cutaway half? Because you see that skill set so many different ways, there definitely does not seem to be agreement on the best way to set the cut-half. but this is more like a reverse suicide half out.

  • there is no advantage really over doing a regular cut-away half, just a different way of doing it. Also for me, I'm super un-flexible so I can't keep my legs straight if I try to put them on the bar and if I do it looks ugly as hell. This way is easier for me and I think it looks really floaty and smooth because your laid out the whole time. It also could be alot higher if I did it right with the beats on time... def not my one of my best ones. ;-)~
