@pskibobby Don't get me wrong, I thought The Gargoyle was a great track, with technical ability mixed in with an excellent rhythm, but the rest of the tracks are so bland imo. EVERY track on Powerslave is Maiden, is Progressive, is energetic, and is a historic landmark in metal. SFBADR doesn't have all these elements.

I don't think that you have listened to the full album. Anybody who thinks that Suite Modale and I Still Have That Other Girl are bland has a seriously shitty taste in music. Every song on the album has a brilliant vibe to them, full of energy. They progress just as much as the song on Powerslave do, it's just that they're shorter because they have more notes and just progress quicker. Either way, it's still progressive. You have no case.

@Ivgordo It was artists at the time like Maiden that inspired a lot of artists to play. They may have not inspired Gilbert's style, but are VERY influential in the metal scene. You have to respect musicians like them who have exceptional composition skill. Yes, Paul Gilbert does incorporate interesting rhythms in his songs and technically insane, but would you rather listen to Powerslave or Silence Followed By a Deafening Roar? The answer for me, along with many others, is pretty damn obvious.

Dave Murray IS talented mind you. His talent isn't so much Technical Ability, but able to compose music. Face it, Paul Gilbert is amazing when it comes to Runs, Sweeps, and String Skipping, but Dave Murray was more innovative and influential for what he did with Maiden. Both are amazing guitarists, but you can't say that Dave Murray has 90% less talent than Gilbert.

Dimarzio's, amp settings (low dist and high treble I think), Laney amps(they have a very special sound if used right), and his technique.

I once tried an old high-end Ibanez RG with a Laney amp, and got something very close to this tone.

Hmm...Skipping strings is easy for me but not at...like..Paul speed? Or the speed of Paul. Which is a measurement discovered by scientists a year ago..I actually just picked up on sweeping TODAY. Paul sounds like he is doing string skipping sweeps. Too epic.
