The favourite of my mother, a very loved piece of mine. I can't measure how fulfilled I feel when listening to this. As a poet I love art, and as an art lover I love music, and as a music lover I love this. And you know why? because there never was a music genre to make me feel as well as classical music does. This is art! This is the real art! And this comes from a black metal listener.
Hopefully you can employ some of the more interesting harmonies of the past few hundred years if you write black metal yourself. Most of what I've heard is like tech death but more bland and cliche.
Very beautiful. I think that the Oboe is together with the Cello, the instrument which has the capacity to move the "Soul" ... It is heavenly. Thanks for posting.
Alessandro Marcello (24 August 1669 – 19 June 1747) was an Italian nobleman, poet, philosopher, mathematician and musician. He composed and published several sets of concertos, including six concertos under the title of as well as cantatas, arias, canzonets, and violin sonatas. Marcello often composed under the pseudonym Eterio Stinfalico, his name as a member of the celebrated Arcadian Academy (Pontificia Accademia degli Arcadi). Alessandro's brother was Benedetto Marcello, also a composer.
oh i also just love the timbre of the baroque instruments. strings with that crunchy sustaining quailty and the resonance of the oboe without being overly brilliant.
it's 9 o'clock in the evening and my neighbours are gonna hate me but this masterpiece inspired me so much, i think i'm gonna play a little oboe now :)
The dates of his birth and death are uncertain; although he is popularly accepted at present as having been born in 1669, there remains the historical assertion that he lived from 1684-1750, and so you shall encounter both dates. Therefore, while the information in the description may be inaccurate, it is not a typographical error.
i have been trying to get a recording of Benedetto Marcello's Sonata in C minor (oboe with piano or orchestral accompaniment doesn't matter) does anyone know where?
@RedSeaCoral An oboe is a thin, woodwind instrument constructed with a conical-bore (a tube that has a gentle taper all the way down its length) and a double-reed mouth-piece (a musical instrument comprised of a hollow stem or stalk employed by blowing through it... x2 in this case). It's the featured instrument in this piece.
An oboe has quite a beautiful, full sound, doesn't it!? =)
Becuase in the barouqe era, when this was written, vibrato was treated as more of an ornament than a necessity. in fact, constant vibrato has only been the norm since the mid 19th century.
I would like to add, in hypothesis, that as the instruments of the Baroque era had more character-- that they were of a more vibrant timbre--I believe vibrato has perhaps become more popular in the present day in unconscious response to the want of modern-instruments that otherwise sound rather plain comparatively. Personally, I find vibrato usually to be unpleasant and distracting.
@shaynohhhmac Even more, vibrato in the baroque era was some kind of devils thing. Vibrato was like playing constantly out of tune in that age. Vibrato is a 'relative' modern thing actually.
Harmonico101, good job, thank you for uploading so much great music.

I think the juxtaposition of the expressive oboe melody and the simple, quarter-note string harmony is wonderful.

I also propose the J. S. Bach's transcription for piano or keyboard. The version on the piano by Genn Gould is wonderful.
Je propose aussi la transcription pour clavier de J.S. Bach. Particulièrement l'interprétation de Glenn Gould au piano, un pur délice.

There are some pretty interesting ornaments in this recording.
Not sure that I personally like all of them. But that's my opinion.
It's still gorgeous

I think there's a slight typo in the video description...A. Marcello was born in 1669...not 1684...

In response to the listener who thought that the Adagio might sound beautiful on a bassoon, I'll record it if I can find an accompanist.
