Absolutely beautiful!! Gorgeous song for the most beautiful and romantic ending to any film.. Please take me home Mr Thornton!!! No-one else could have played that part so well, he goes from dark and broody to almost in awe to finally be accepted, such a look in his eyes. Have seen N&S many times now and i always have tingles up my back! All girls deserve a love scene like that!

Keep in mind that Austen and Gaskell wrote in different time periods of literature, which is why some might like one author better than the other. Austen was a more of a Romantic where Gaskell was definitely Victorian. Gaskell also makes society a more prominent issue in North and South unlike Austen who, although society is a part of her stories, does not make it a focal point like Gaskell does. Austen is more about the romance between the two characters and the interplay between all characters

Austen worlds are almost perfect little bubbles, where no one is taxed beyond there measure and everything inevitably turns out right. On aesthetics perhaps Austen has a better turn of phrase but then again she wrote about pretty things. It's hard to be constantly witty about the impoverished, desolate and dark. I would also contend that Thornton is a more rounded character than Darcy

Woah, woah, woah. People are comparing Thornton and Darcy like Gaskell and Austen deserve to be compared. Austen stands head and shoulders (torso, knees and ankles even) above Gaskell in her style and even on plot levels. Of course, Gaskell's novel was serialized and it's more a condition of England novel, so they shouldn't really be compared, in my opinion. But seriously... Darcy as a character is so much... just more. And Thornton was written for the screen. He's not as deep.

The film is available in Germany, I have found it by conincidence in a bookshop. It is really one of the best films I have ever seen, so watch it! (Ich würde dir nur empfehlen, ihn im Originalton anzuschauen, die Synchronisation ist ziemlich sch..., aber das ist ja meistens so.)
