Keaton is the same poet as Chaplin. Only difference is, he uses very light colors campared to Chaplin who perefers more contrast in emotions. For this reason it took 4 decades for Keaton to find his place by critics. To me Keaton's are like classical music. Each time I watch I enjoy more. I can say in the last 15 years, I have watched General, Sherlock Jr. & few of his shorts at least 3-times a year. In Chaplin It is hardly more than 2 times in whole. Maybe some scences but not whole movie.
Keaton and Chaplin are both brilliant in different ways. Keaton was by far the better director and filmmaker and by far the master of the mechanical gag. Charlie Chaplin was by far the better actor. But to argue who is better would be pointless. But I will say that Keaton stands the test of time more than Chaplin. Keaton's films are modern and are relatable to this day. Chaplin's films are stuck in an another era.
i just discovered the greatness of silent film and must say Chaplin's films are still very funy and timeless. i think what you said is true about both being brilliant in different ways and Keaton was more "cool" with his mechanical gags and Chaplin was a better actor and into portraying thoughts and emotions and story tellign without a single word. personally i prefer Chaplin who honestly still is more popular worldwide.
Chaplin is the greates but Keaton is almost just as great, I find keaton a littel more funny but Chaplin is a greater actor, writer and film maker, but Chaplin, Keaton and Lloyd stand above anthing affter them, they are the greates stars that ever graced the silver screen
i adore Michael Pitt but i would've loved to see DiCaprio in this one instead of Pitt, still my favorite movie tho..
