Thank you ChuckAkins for posting something us mere mortals can only watch and listen in awe. Thank you YouTube for allowing us to see this. And thank you Scotty & Bob for showing us how to play. I am humbled.
+supports my theory that some are born with a little something extra, the rest of us.......well we will always be a couple (or a bunch) steps behind. Then we have the third catagory who just have to see if it can fly out the window like a frisbee. I make my home here (whats a few window panes). I've had limited success using the football approach (laces out of course). A slight top spin gives me a nice arc. 2nd approach using the fast pitch softball technique gives me more momentim.
All right, all right - IT'S REALLY HIGH TIME THAT SCOTTY ANDERSON GETS A C.G.P. title together with the ranks of the late Chet Atkins and Tommy Emmanuel!
This picker is so superb in all areas it is truly a joy to listen and watch him perform. Such much creativity and execution of sound. He is truly under appreciated in the world of guitar. He is the man .....10 stars......Keep up the great work Scotty, I know America appreciates your music.....
I learnt alot from this guys hot licks video, and at first was blow away by his technique. It's interesting how Arlen Roth, whether intentionally or not, kind of puts down danny gatton, stating Scotty to be a 'True master of the Telecaster'. At first I could see why, but going back to Danny Gatton was refreshing. Danny Gatton is raw in comparison, but oozes feel and expression, whereas Scotty has incredible technique but doesnt excite me in the same way. What are people's thoughts on this?
Scotty's technique and sheer musicality are astounding to me. I agree that Gatton seemed to "go for broke" more often, and might have been more tonally expressive and varied, but Scotty is far from dull or sterile. I hear him more like a clean jazz guy, where it's more about the notes he's playing instead of HOW he's playing them, like Gatton.
The Amp-whatever is available. Scotty brings his guitar to shows like this, and is willing to play whatever is made available to him. Makes me think about another guitarist, Roy Buchanan, when he was touring would show up to a town a day or 2 early, go to the local music store and would hire whatever musicians that were available at the time. I thought this was just a story until he came in to Zapheralla's music store in Arlington, Virginia and did just that!
The thing is everyone watching this is mesmerized, amazed, enthralled, by this man's playing, and the thing that jumps into your head is "where's the tabs" to what Scotty just played? Why their in every music store across the country, just practice for a few hours and you'll play note for note what he just did---it's a cakewalk anybody can do it? That's why the thumbs down my friend.
Scotty makes no money off these postings. He doesn't even know they are on here unless someone tells him. He has no tab or chord sheets or books for sell. He plays for the love of it. Couldn't care less about the commercial end of the business. He would be happy that you wanted to learn the song after hearing his version. Would show you how if given the oportunity. It wasn't Scotty who ridiculed your response, so don't insult him because of their ignorance.
I've been playing guitar 50 years and have seen or heard almost all of them. I believe Scotty is the best I have ever heard. He does not get near the recognition he deserves.
Sooo....share this video with every would-be guitar picker that you know....maybe it will serve to inspire someone who can take it farther than Scotty? Or if you know a swell-headed 3 chord wonder....give him a dose of humility.....
Hard to believe there was once a time music like this could not only be heard on the radio, but was at the top of the charts as well. Good to see some are still keeping the faith! Thanks for posting...
Chet once said that Scotty plays Chet better than Chet can himself. You have to be pretty much on the same scale or beyond to ever hear a compliment like that!
Don't try to justify virtuosity man, the music speaks for itself. Peoplle will always find fault or think someone is better than whoever. Peace to all :-)
Hey, krelbar, show "the old guy" some respect. He has been receiving accolades and awards for his playing longer than you have been born probably. This was an all day convention of finger style guitar pickers. These two shared the honor of being the special featured acts. Bob played earlier, but hung around to pick with is old friend Scotty. I think one of the first times they played together was in Paris France years ago.
Don't try to justify virtuosity man, the music speaks for itself. People will always find fault or think someone is better than whoever. Peace to all :-)
You're actually surprised at getting negative responses to a dumb comment? Your posting wasn't humorous or offensive...it was just, well, meaningless.
I've watched this video dozens of times over the past year or so - it never fails to please, never gets old!!! I've seen Scotty in Cincinnati - he's INCREDIBLE!!! This is perhaps the best!!!
That was a great show these guys gave. Some of the best playing I've heard. Many more of the songs from that show are on here. They both did great but S. Anderson has to be the greatest player that most casual listeners have never heard of. He can play country, jazz, just about anything.
In 1995 and 1998, Bob Saxton won the prestigious Merle Travis Nation Thumbpicking Championship.
He is an honorary member of the Chattanooga Thumbpickers. He has performed at the Grand Ole Opry. He is also in the New York Country Music Hall of Fame in Cortland.
...and this ladies and gentlemen is why the Telecaster is the best guitar out there.

What I do , I use a pocket nail clipper and trim the thumbpick shorter in a shape of a teardrop pick, this is working fine for me!

Its a form of musical notation specialized for fretted instruments such as guitar.
