If ya lived across the racks you would of heard this and then some, oh yea, life is coming full circle, time for brothers and sisters to hold hands to show the rest of the shallow world who it is that really does understand the meaning......

  • It's been a good 20 years since I heard or played this classic Gil song.

he sits perfectly in the blues- poetic - consciousness -

And still today Every other child seems to be walking with steel...this is a violent civilisation....

The Reflections record is Brilliant and as said it is brutally relevant to 2009

  • Could not agree with you more...

    Peace

  • you serious clark?

  • yeah its racist for black people to talk about issues in the community and in the government.....

  • Gil Scott or The Truth. 'Nuff said

  • love this music. great sounds.

  • will you fools stop arguing over semantics (all in the name of making yourselves seem smarter than the next guy) and enjoy a legend? fuck.

  • He was released on parole in 2003. On July 5, 2006, Scott-Heron was sentenced to two to four years in a New York State prison for violating a plea deal on a drug-possession charge by leaving a drug rehabilitation center. Scott-Heron admitted he is HIV-positive and claimed the in-patient drug treatment center stopped giving him his medication. Scott-Heron's sentence was to run until July 13, 2009. He was paroled on May 23, 2009

  • Jesus, you have a hell of a chip on your shoulder dont you? - Most musicians of this standard do drugs, i am not saying its right but it seems to go with the territory. never the less the man is surely more talented than me and probably you as well. You need to lighten up some.

  • NO CHIP PASS ON INFROMATION ON MR GIL SCOTT ONE MY FAVORITE ARTIST OF ALL TIME iT'S JUST IRONIC THAT HE SAID ON THE RECORD " 'IN THE BOTTLE" IF SEE A BROTHER ON THE CORNER LOOKING A GONNA IT'GOONA BE ME'

IF THIS CAUSE ANY DIS RESPECT SORRY TO THE GSH FANS i AM ONE TOO

  • Hip Hop was invnted in by a legend called ernie k doe who is also master of the universe it was invnted in the 1970's by white irish migrants who were sexually fustrated

  • What he says in the final ?

  • Again, HIP HOP IS NOT A TYPE OF MUSIC. Jesus christ. Rapping or MCing dates back to tribes in Africa. MC has many different meanings but it's core meaning is "Master of Ceremonies". Ceremonies being tribal meetings. The record companies call rap music Hip Hop but it's absolutley wrong.

  • "Hip means to know

    It's a form of intelligence

To be hip is to be up-date and relevant

Hop is a form of movement

You can't just observe a hop

You got to hop up and do it

Hip and Hop is more than music

    Hip is the knowledge

    Hop is the movement

Hip and Hop is intelligent movement"~KRS-ONE

  • hip hop is a lifestyle no one into mainstreem nos that.

by the way this is my favorite group.

  • rvpj, you on point. But this you can't put in the RAP genre per say.darkstar24660 you on point. But is he COMMON's dad?

  • Love this song!!! Thanks for posting it!!!

  • listened 2 it million times never gets boring

  • Gil was the Man Thanks for posting his music. Anybody know where is H2O Watergate. Cat like Gil deserve a lot of Respect They are the Soldiers of the Message that will open your mind to Truth about America.

  • "There's a big difference between putting words over some music, and blending those same words into the music. There's not a lot of humour. They use a lot of slang and colloquialisms, and you don't really see inside the person. Instead, you just get a lot of posturing."

  • Scott-Heron is known in many circles as "the godfather of rap"[3][4] and is widely considered to be one of the genre's founding fathers. Given the political consciousness that lies at the foundation of his work, he can also be called a founder of political rap. Message to the Messengers was a plea for the new generation of rappers to speak for change rather than perpetuate the current social situation, and to be more articulate and artistic:

  • this when rap had something to say,a real band no samples , no crap

  • jesus dude you call this rap?

  • hip hop was created off of sample kid, study real hip hop

  • whaaaat?! hip hop was created off of sampling?! u dont know shit about hip hop. rofl ppl were rapping way b4 a fuckin computer or a turntable was ever made YOU need to study real hip hop idiot. rapping grew from its roots in the tribal chants and the plantation work songs to become a part of black resistance to an oppresive white society. plz kid PLZ

  • im talking about hip hop beats, how do you think they got kicks and snares from their drums kits?? the first songs came from sampled records, and where did you learn they got hip hop from tribal chants and plantation songs? please give me your sources

  • Yeah well hip hop doesn't trace back to Africa. Hip Hop, as it was called, was a lifestyle that began to emerge during the late eighties in New York. Rap music came after it. Tribal chants is not Hip Hop it's a tradition and a type of music that influenced rap music. There is a big difference between Hip Hop and rap music. Hip Hop is culture, rap is music.

  • Hip-hop primarily is a genre of music. Get over it.

  • word lol

  • No references to being cool or being awesome, getting or giving oral sex. No references to killing people for having street cred. or doing drugs to be cool. Just an appreciation of great musicianship paired with impeccable songwriting.

Mr. Heron is an amazing lyricist, a poet, and one of the finest musicians to grace the world.

  • i couldnt have said it better!

  • Wise.

  • Great song, great video. Incredibly stylish.

  • My favorite song by Gill Scott. Great lyrics.

"When other folks give up theirs, I'll give up mine."

  • just wonderful! Does anyone believe G S-H is being 'targetted' for his ongoing political statements? Seems weird as shit that there's so much coke doing the rounds, but our man's constantly in the frame . . . . hhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmm . . ..

  • Oh man did I enjoy reminicsing. Does anybody remember or have Madison Avenue or Show Business..two songs from the Angel Dust Album?

  • i meant to say "Play IT!"...oops..:D...i like this song too.:)

  • PLAY TI!
