If there is a danger of vehicles going past you then you should always situate your rescue vehicle between you and traffic. So that your protected from on coming traffic. I can only say one thing. In any emergency situation like this, I strongly believe that fire department should have authority over the police department. This isn't a robbery. The fire chief knows what he's doing, and what sense does it make to pull him away from rescuing the victim.
wow..................I am a Captain on a Fire Department and I am glad we have a good reputation with the Police. Which works both ways. I advise my drivers to block ALL lanes of traffic for everyones safety. I shut it down !!! Drivers need to have patience or go another route, there is an emergency and it needs to be handled first.

A police cruiser cannot adequately block traffic on an interstate where people are travelling 70+ mph. if that car is hit, it WILL virtually dissapear,BUT a 32,500 Lb. pumper with probably 1700-2200 gals. of water WILL adequately block traffic.That "cop" needs his national cert. revoked and he needs to work a mall security for the rest of his life.I've been in and seen situations like this as a part time Police Officer and a full time Fire Fighter...that Captain was in the green in all aspects!
My buddy just became an EMT and I showed him this video and how they were trained in this situation and he said he would have performed no differently than the fireman. Well, back in 2008 Federal Court decided that Officer Todd Greeves was not right. He was wrong. Very wrong. Officer Greeves had to pay $17,500 to Captain Wilson. The fact that Officer Greeves had also been the subject of an internal investigation that found he had used excessive force during an arrest didn't help him. The judge ruled that he had no probable cause to make the arrest. The way the cop behaved was called "outrageous". So there you have it.
Blocking that many lanes on that roadway is too dangerous, the cop was right, please simply comply with them and you'll find things go sooner, the cop was not unreasonable in his request.
@mmawannab20 I live near a large interstate like the one in the video, as you can tell it has four lanes. The police cruiser already has one lane blocked. The pumper blocks another causing two of the four lanes to be blocked. That is a classic bottleneck situation and when this occurs where I live, there are Pileup wrecks that occur behind the activity.

It is part of what we are trained to do. I had a bad expierence while off duty where a cop threatned me with arrest because he thought the car that turned on its side would fall on me. I ignored the cop and worked on the person in the car until the company arrived. Even off duty on the I had authority to treat the injured person and did so at my risk.

Ok am I the only person who has ever seen traffic backed up for like 10 miles because there was a wreck and there was like 6 ambulances, firetrucks and cop cars in the middle of the road? Typical asshole cop. Firefighters are trying to create a safe environment to perform a rescue, and the cop is wasting time on a power trip... You know, firefighters generally aren't given free drinks at gas stations or restaurants while on duty, neither are paramedics... But cops always do. Something backwards about that.

It is part of what we are trained to do. I had a bad expierence while off duty where a cop threatned me with arrest because he thought the car that turned on its side would fall on me. I ignored the cop and worked on the person in the car until the company arrived. Even off duty on the I had authority to treat the injured person and did so at my risk.

I hate police too, but not all police are bad. Good cops are rare and tend to move around more than bad cops in an attempt to avoid them.
I met a really good chap a few months ago who was pushed out of the police force by racist cops because he was not racist. Thankfully he's still a cop.
So be nice to cops even if you don't know if they deserve it. Because some cops really do deserve our respect.
If we demonize entire groups for the sins of individuals, none of us would survive the justice.

But once the public’s life safety is at risk, the first responders may have to take calculated risks themselves. I saw videos of shops on fire with 3 floors of flats above, and no firefighting efforts. Ever been on the floors above a fire? It’s a real nasty place to be.

@GTAIVPOLICE 2. I will also agree, perhaps you’ve not enough emergency resources. The LFB has 112 Fire Stations covering an area of 609 square miles. Contrast that with NYC with 221 Fire stations for an area 322 square miles. There is a corresponding difference in manpower as well: 5,800 vs. 11,000. But I believe that the size of the police forces are similar. However, emergency services are suppose to have contingency plans in place for such events.

Ok am I the only person who has ever seen traffic backed up for like 10 miles because there was a wreck and there was like 6 ambulances, firetrucks and cop cars in the middle of the road? The cop was wrong here. Emergency response teams take priority and can park wherever they feel they need to to give quality care to the patient.

IMS identifies core competencies of agencies and delineates jurisdiction as to who the lead agency is in different kinds of incidents. Command issues get categorized into either Single Command or Unified Command. So maybe the real questions here are: 1. Are there rules in place? 2. Are they being followed? 3. And if not, which agency isn't "Playing Nice".

That is fucking retarded that the police officer lost. It takes a lot more to become a Police Officer than a Firefighter. There was no reason that the fire truck needed to be there in the first place. If a car would've struck the police car the dash cam was in, the resulting impact would've caused more damage than a car that could've swerved into the lane the firetruck was blocking.

This is crazy !!! As a first responder this is SOP to create a barrier to help protect the rescue workers!!! Did this cop have something personal against the firefighter and saw an opportunity to be an ass ??? What a stupid decision this cop made...If this had been my family member in the car I think that this police officer and I would have an issue....
