I think it would be wonderful for Sharp Mary Birch to support the rally with others from the birth community! In the interest of giving the best patient care, we need more physicians informed about normal, natural birth, how that looks, and how the health care system needs to be more flexible to accommodate that. Everyone needs to advocate for lower rates of C-sections and inductions and speak out against unnecessary medical procedures, regardless of where you are on the medical spectrum!
I have had 4 C-sections at Sharp Mary Birch and my doctor made sure to never to them before 39.5 weeks. My OB team did the necessary research and made sure I was ok.

Sharp Mary Birch is the only hospital in San Diego exclusively for women. We have the largest inpatient Perinatal Special Care Unit in the county, caring for those experiencing high-risk pregnancies — with complications such as preterm labor, placenta previa or maternal cardiac disease. As a result, Mary Birch has a higher C-section rate than hospitals that don’t care for women with high-risk pregnancies. (see next comment)
@sharpwebcenter There is no question about how amazing Mary Birch is with High Risk pregnancy. The high risk only accounts for a small percentage of the 9000 births a year that take place there. I want to be clear that this isn't just about the c-section rate at Mary Birch. This is a national problem. The unnecessary induction rate and elective c-section rate is the problem. Doctors lead women to believe that there are no consequences to induction or Elective C-Section. Changes need to be made.
More power to you. The cesarean rate is out of control. It's time for those who contribute to the high cesarean rate to compare their practices with evidence-based practices and recognize that they are a major part of the problem. Our legal system created the managed birth, not our doctors. Our medical economy created the under-staffing issues that underlie the practice of getting as many birthing moms on the machines as possible, so that the few staff can track many mamas. Our overworked doctors are pushing to complete births before their weekends.

The problem really is national, and not just about Mary Birch. This is not an "us against them" situation. We want to all work towards what is best for mom and baby. Scheduled Inductions before 42 weeks without a "specific" medical indication is not supported by evidence. We're asking for policy changes that support the best outcome
Mary Birch is an amazing hospital and provides some of the best care for mothers and babies in this country....... the only thing missing from the care available here is midwifery practice. Midwives would be the ideal solution to helping lower the c/s rate by promoting normal and natural labor and birth and caring for healthy women.
