paragliding is a VERY safe activity, please people do your homework. ACCIDENTS ONLY HAPPEN when you dont respect mother nature and would like to show off. here are some simple rules, 1. check your equipment, 2. check yourself 3. check the weather 4. know your general path and landing zone 5. dont paraglide more than an hour at a time :) follow these simple rules and NEVER get hurt.
What's the fun in that. Get a damn real wing that doesn't collapse and fly for five hours and only come down because its dark.
Paragliding is a very safe activity???!...stop kidding yourself. People wouldn't die if it was safe. We take the risks b/c we love to fly...don't lie to yourself, it makes the sport more dangerous.
I don't know what you consider safe, but paragliding is one of the more dangerous sports out there. And if you think you can entirely eliminate the risk from any form of aviation, especially one that involves an inherently unstable aircraft that can collapse in turbulence, you are kidding yourself.
Sorry, but a paraglider is inherently STABLE: put a sandbag below one instead of a pilot and it'll usually fly nicely. Put a pilot under it and he should keep it above his head and inflate it.
Any type of airship has to avoid certain conditions if they are too tough for her: even the safest mean of transport (an airliner) has to stay outside of a thunderstorm !
I agree with you if the paraglider is a DHV 1 or DHV 1-2 category and flying in calm conditions. Other than that, paragliders require active flying to remain airborne. Do a search on "DHV Active Flying" and read Karl Slezak's article on the subject. First line of the second paragraph: "Unlike almost all other aircraft, paragliders are aerodynamically instable."
Its nice to know that your fellow paraglider pilots rushed to help you. Its not like they stayed to make a video for You Tube or fuck off for their tea like the guy folding up his wing did.
Lucky there was a couple of guys in boats to help.
The guy was doing a SIV course and while doing a stall exercise it looks like he ended up with a bad cravat. The guys in the boat were meant to be their to recover the guy if things went wrong anyway.
I've seen these things fold up,,spin all the way down,,,fold up on landing flair,,fold up and just streamer all the way to the ground. Hopefully the dealers are informing these flyers of the risk,,instead of thinking of the almighty dollar.
lmao,,,see that guy towards the end wrapping his lines up,,he's like,,,hey,,that dealer never told me these could do that,,,I'm outta here@@@@hahahhaha
You don't like paragliders, ok. But i can ashore you dealers don't sell paragliders willy-nilly. Paragliders have categories of safety and are matched to pilots experience and skill. Spins can go wrong (you know) and paragliders can cravat, recovery is normally not a problem, with more than one way to do so. I had a mainair mercury weight shift microlite to get closer to the purity of flight but it's nothing on paragliding. why not check out some acro, we sometimes get it wrong aswell.
i'm not sure whether i'd do a full stall in this rotation. you could get twisted very badly, so it doesn't help anything... i agree though on the idea with the stabilo. you could also try a side collapse on the cravate, î've done this with some knots too and it worked great.
He did a croissaunt, a bagal, a cappacino, and then a frappe.

I want to paraglide, but these videos make me weary of the sport. I'm also looking into hang gliding and trikes.

when you call yourself hangman... so hanggliding then is of course always safer...? dork

This 'fault' with paragliders, should be 'designed out!" Every (near fatal?) accident like this should be examined closely.
These folk were clearly safety conscious, two boats, that's good. In my view it's "back to the drawing board time".

this was a SIV course by the looks of it...

Stabilo line, spin the side with the cravat, full stall and restart the glider. Any of these 3 probably would have fixed the problem.
