I deffo think you should give it another go, I like a Jockanese accent, it's up there with the hottest female accents like Scouse and Geordie.

I think the song is far better in your accent, I'm not a fan of the spoken part of the original either. When I first heard Kate Nash I thought she was copying the style of Lilly Allen which put me off at first as I love Lilly Allen.

Newton Falkner does a great cover of this song and puts on a posh accent for the spoken part so I think he may be of the same opinion as you.
