This song, like most people have said, is amazingly beautiful and haunting. I first heard this song when my son was about 3 months old and just looking at him, I could never imagine someone doing what Susan Smith did to her children. Absolutely heartbreaking.
Herrings audio alchemy is a wonder to hear. How can a person take such a horrible story and turn it into such a heartbreaking work of art? I caanot tell how profoundly moved I've been by this song, thank you so much for posting it and I hope Caroline has a long and prolific career. Talent like her's is rare these days.
wow that was amazing! i saw her in oxford. she was performing for a radio show called thacker mountain. it was so neat to see her live. :) i really enjoyed it. she is something else :)
The story of Susan Smith is a jarring one and told in eloquent ballad fashion by Herring. Those who don't remember will find it hard to imagine how big a national story it was at the time. Smith's grossly tawdry life needs this kind of telling.
This song haunts me because it is the true story of Susan Smith, the woman who drowned her children in her car in Union, SC. I was from the next county away at the time. It is a beautiful song and tells the story well.
Saw this show at Eddie's Attic. Caroline was incredible. A great addition to the show. I loved how Kristian joined in w/ the mandolin. Thnx for posting on YouTube.
Awesome video! Caroline is terrific. That was a great show. Did you get Kristian and Ellis' performances on video as well? Would love to see those, too!

Eddie's is the best! And Caroline is an awesome singer/songwriter who is in her prime! And "Paper Gown" is a hauntingly beautiful song. Go Caroline!

I was at this concert. Very much fun. Eddies is the best place in the world for live music.
