@5eurocups2005 Thanks v.much for that. I understand it is a hour-long cassette. Remember there was over sixty of those, and the longest exorcism sessions were 3-4 hours. But it is a very useful guide, tho the spelling and translation occasionally gives cause for concern. A great pity he didn't put in the original German as well, but he seems to suggest one can get it from a man in Cologne for a fee or costs. His tape seems not to be the one here. Salvador Dali is a good example of an unbelieving sybarite who had to be exorcised. People become "possessed" in all cultures not just Christianity. @SpastiCSackZ Wishful thinking has always been popular in human society, however in this age of technology and reason I think it is best to examine the evidence thoroughly before making irrational assumptions such as demonic possession. People used to think that diseases were the work of evil spirits, we now know that they are the result of micro-organisms.
@themongru The knowledge of disease in Western Civilization and lands like China was far more extensive than you claim in your statement that ignorance led to attribution to evil spirits. Epilepsy was well known as a disease to Greek physicians in antiquity. Julius Caesar was epileptic. Even the word is Greek. It's even in the New Testament which in listing the claimed cures by Jesus Christ actually does put forward epilepsy and demonic possession as separate afflictions.

The doctors would have kept Anneliese alive by using a feeding tube etc. However she was handed over to priests during the last year of her life and did not receive any more medical treatment. She died from starvation and malnutrition. Regardless of whether or not the doctors would have been able to identify the cause of her illness, at least she wouldn't have been starved to death.

I often put possession in inverted commas to imply that it's real cause is unknown. Even what happened to the boy cannot be fully confirmed because we do not know the circumstances of the boy's life, things he was taught, and how was raised. He may have not been religious but mental disorders and diseases are not limited to anyone. Everyone is susceptible to them. It just more so happens in a dogmatic culture and beliefs

@5eurocups2005 Thanks v.much for that. I understand it is a hour-long cassette. Remember there was over sixty of those, and the longest exorcism sessions were 3-4 hours. But it is a very useful guide, tho the spelling and translation occasionally gives cause for concern. A great pity he didn't put in the original German as well, but he seems to suggest one can get it from a man in Cologne for a fee or costs. His tape seems not to be the one here. But what you've done is real help to people here.

Epilepsy was well known as a disease to Greek physicians in antiquity. Julius Caesar was epileptic. Even the word is Greek. It's even in the New Testament which in listing the claimed cures by Jesus Christ actually does put forward epilepsy and demonic possession as separate afflictions.

@Porphyrygrampus I'm just saying that the idea of demonic possession is ridiculous and is as "non-concrete" as you could get. I'm not trying to dodge the issue but rather encourage people to look at the evidence without jumping to supernatural conclusions.

Are you suggesting that these priests would be more effective than people who have gained qualifications in neuroscience who have a greater understanding of the functions of the human brain?

@Porphyrygrampus It was nearly 2am where I live so I went to bed. The doctors would have kept Anneliese alive by using a feeding tube etc. However she was handed over to priests during the last year of her life and did not receive any more medical treatment. She died from starvation and malnutrition. Regardless of whether or not the doctors would have been able to identify the cause of her illness, at least she wouldn't have been starved to death.

Plus the standard academic biog. Even last night I cited an exorcism of her whose source was given shortly before. So far you have given zero and steadfastly refused to do so, continually ducking. That won't convert anyone bright to yr viewpoint....

I'm bored by atheists like you claiming that mental disorders can explain everything but remaining unable to agree on any diagnosis for Anneliese. Just because you haven't been provided with a scientific diagnosis does not mean that there won't be one available in the future as the result of further research in this field.

Why do you automatically assume that I assume this is a demonic possession? My explanations have been in conformity with scientific historical method unlike you so-called atheists. I often put possession in inverted commas to imply that it's real cause is unknown. There is the traditional explanation of demons on the one hand and tens of mutually contradictory 'scientific' ones put forward by 'sceptics' on the other. I'm an agnostic. I expect sceptics to bring proof of their claims re Anneliese.

Their motivation is often pride, the wish to prove themselves intellectually superior to others. Atheist have the strongest morality of all because they require no faith in anything and aren't scared into behaving a certain way so when we act of kindness we act out of what is good and not because we are told to do so. If a Christian is only behaving a certain way out of the fear of hell then they can't really be considered moral. Morality is understanding WHY something is bad not just simply following a rule. @AtheisticFighter9 i get that, and it works on some things but you can't just say if you think hard and really want it you can some how get rid of aids. but back to the point i'm sure 99.9% is just in the mind but you can't tell me that every case is the same. i read a story not to long ago about a boy in India who was never thought about demons and his family was not religious,yet almost the same thing happened to him. they ended up cutting his head off out of fear of him

@TheChrisfrye Please provide a link for this story. No. Not every case is the same but there can be different versions of the same case. Even what happened to the boy cannot be fully confirmed because we do not know the circumstances of the boy's life, things he was taught, and how was raised. He may have not been religious but mental disorders and diseases are not limited to anyone. Everyone is susceptible to them. It just more so happens in a dogmatic culture and beliefs
