  • who ever comes across this video should read the comments to,,,great debat

  • How should I know? I'm just a cartoonist. I know what the agenda of "Human Events" is; but I really don't understand why non-scientists feel the need to call the science into question for political purposes or short-sighted economic gain, when the risks of doing so are so potentially catastrophic - and for what? So we can drive some more? That's the only agenda I see. Sure, we can burn it all - dig it up, pump it up, use it 'til we've given this planet the climate of Venus. Why? I don't know.

  • Confirmation bias at work, courtesy of America's favorite climate change denier, Senator Inhofe. Please note that they are talking about "oil equivalents", which covers a lot of energy intensive, very expensive processing to get a barrel of oil (they don't tell you how much it would cost to recover this "oil" and they certainly don't want to mention the environmental damage involved.) Also note: it's not about the size of the tank; it's about the size of the spigot (the rate of flow).

  • Minus the hyperbole, I'm pretty much in agreement with him. Since it requires continuous growth fueled by a limited supply of resources on a finite planet to even sustain itself, industrialized civilization is pretty much toast anyway. The sooner we let it go, the sooner we can get down to the business of saving ourselves from its disastrous consequences.

  • And what are you talkin about? My opinion is backed by more than 30,000 Scientist and Climatologist, homeboy.

  • NWD: It's provable fact by more scientists than you can muster that you're wrong on almost all of your postings and "assumptions" ... replanting the earth, stopping deforestation and slowing/stopping the carbon emissions Oilyboyd points to, can save this =beautiful= planet from slow and wretched demise. Your political rants have zip to do with the important themes being pressed here.

  • How is it that you can't see the global havoc we're wreaking? We are a force to be reckoned with. Armed with fossil fuels and industrialization, we're engaged in the 6th great extinction of species on the earth; we're decimating forests, overfishing the seas, exhausting the fertility of our soils, draining ancient aquifers; and our activities are warming the planet, pushing us toward a climate tipping point. And you're worried about someone taxing your carbon? Seems a little . . . short-sighted.

  • The Human race is a parasite, a Virus.. There is no cure for it, no carbon tax is going to solve the problem you narrow minded tree hugger! It is inevitable that we use up this planet for every ounce of resource it has! It is part of Gods plan and when we have consumed everything..that is the end of this era and the beginning of a new era for our kind! Nothing lasts forever, except God Almighty

  • Wow. Anybody want this guy for a next door neighbor?

  • Thats right!!! I want your Lawn too!!!!

  • If you're maintaining that temperature is independent of the amount of CO2 in the air, then you're simply denying the greenhouse effect altogether, and this conversation is pointless. Temperature and CO2 are coupled; though temperature is affected by other forcings and feedback mechanisms as well, one can drive the other. Nonetheless, it's our contribution of previously sequestered carbon to the atmosphere that has raised the temperature in so short a time, and that trend continues upward.

  • I don't care who wrote the Report From Iron Mountain, I care about the validity of the agenda because obviously its taking place today even u believe it is sattire. So dismiss that report, ok. Address this statement made by the Club of Rome in 1990: "In searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill.... The real enemy, then, is humanity itself ". Global Warming is an agenda.

  • I know you don't care who wrote "Report From Iron Mountain", even though you were perfectly willing to pull it out of your ass and use it to justify your "global conspiracy theory" a few comments back. And that's exactly why no one can take you guys seriously; you don't even bother to check your sources. Peer-reviewed science isn't good enough for you, but some idiot blogger with a political agenda has somehow got the climate situation nailed. It's a total waste of time and bandwidth.

  • Global warming clearly needs to be an agenda, because only a global political solution can remedy the problem. The trouble is, you see it as only a political agenda, because you don't understand the science pointing to the problem.

The Club of Rome is small think tank that developed sustainability scenarios (way back in the 70s) to predict various levels of environmental consequences. Their updated report ("Limits to Growth") demonstrates that many of those models were remarkably accurate.

  • You really haven't been paying much attention to this stuff, have you? At the start of the Industrial Revolution, carbon levels were about 280 ppm. They're now around 388 ppm and that rate is accelerating. That's our doing. The planet has normal ways of scrubbing this stuff out of the atmosphere, but the systems have their limits, and we're currently testing them. The last time levels were this high was 15 million years ago, but why should you care? In your world, CO2 doesn't raise temperature.

  • Both CO2 and water vapor absorb (or trap) thermal radiation, so both produce a greenhouse effect. However, you're only looking at part of the picture, the part that represents normal functioning of the planets climate system, with natural cycles of forcings and feedback. While oceans emit 10 times as much CO2 as humans, they also absorb the same amount, so theres no net effect on carbon levels. We are providing the increased levels of carbon emissions, growing at a rate of about 3% a year.

  • In other news, you don't have to heat up the whole ocean for CO2 to be released. Absorption and evaporation occur at the (warming) surface: increased temperature = increased CO2. The more we dig up, burn and exhaust ancient hydrocarbons into the atmosphere, the less this carbon sink (the conveyor that takes it to the bottom) can function effectively (and the more acidification that takes place). If it stops altogether, we can look forward to an extra 2 Gt of our CO2 emissions with nowhere to go.

  • thank you, you know your stuff. What worries me though is that there is a consensus that would say your wrong and carbon taxes are going to be made law soon. Not great news for most people, but horrible news to developing third world countries....

  • What makes me think we have the power to alter natural climatic cycles? Let's see . . . oh yeah: science. Which has known about the greenhouse effect for close to two centuries now. Climate change is, of course, always going on, but what we've experienced in the last 30 years is a relatively rapid rise in temperature accompanied by a steady increase in CO2 concentration in the atmosphere as a result of burning fossil fuels and other human activities. Solar forcing alone doesn't account for that.

  • The Earth is laughing at YOU

  • You are all blind to the real events happening.

It's all a Canadian/Russian plot. Two of the worlds to largest oil countries all increasing CO2 levels with the end goal of raising capital in this transition period then melting away their frozen waste lands and creating a new world right on top of the old one.

And Bush/Cheney are also co-conspirators, bunch of secret canadians.

  • Put that way, it almost seems plausible.

  • I'm saying that the recession (in reality, a depression) is an inevitable thing, given our dependence on fossil fuels to drive a growth-oriented consumer economy. Having just slammed into the wall of the limits to such growth, we're now waking up to the damage that idea has done. We can't go on pretending there are no limits; and no country, no matter what economic values it operates under, has any "sovereign" right to destroy the natural systems that support life on this planet.

  • Maybe, when all the globalists leave America to go to their sneaky Copenhagen so-called Climate treaty meeting, we could somehow, keep them from ever getting back onto American soil.

  • Yea cuzo, you've been fooled. There only goal is to usher in a global governance scheme that will rape and enslave the entire planet. 1961 Report from Iron Mountain lays it out. What we're seeing now was actually planned 50 years ago before anyone ever heard of global warming. They keep tryin to fine tune the plan. 1st, it was aerosols and the ozone layer then CO2 and global warming and now climate change. What the fuck does that mean??? The world has always had "climate change". OPEN YOUR EYES!

  • Report from Iron Mountain? Really? You're unaware that that book was satire? Hmm, I wonder what else you might be unaware of?

  • The elitists have been lying to you. They are behind the global warming scam. Now they call it climate change because we are all seeing that the temps are dropping. They are pushing for a climate treaty that will do nothing for the "climate". Read the Copenhagen Climate Treaty THOROUGHLY. It is about the redistribution of wealth, in other words global socialism.

There is enough technology with solar and wind power to solve the problems and they are doing NOTHING to get on board with it.

  • Global warming has always meant climate change (or just plain global weirding), because climate is a non-linear system: small variations produce big distortions, wild swings, and instability. Temps are not dropping; rising sea levels, melting glaciers and 1000s of other pieces of scientific data clearly tell the story. You can believe some other story about a global scam if you like, but in doing so, it will only make it easier not to act. I'm not willing to bet the planet on your story.

  • Don't get me wrong. I am all for cleaning up the environment. I grow a good amount of my own food, I do canning and reuse everything. I make quilts out of old jeans and pot holders out of old socks. I probably have less of an impact on the globe than you do. But taxing me to pay for the development of Africa in the name of climate change is INSANE!

How can you not see that?

  • I applaud your efforts to live a simpler life, but frankly, your individual effort or mine and thousands of others won't matter if feedback loops kick in and the climate goes chaotic. It will take a global effort to reduce emissions to stop that, and we won't be able to get others who haven't shared in the big party of the last century to sign on to that unless we're willing to share out the pain. The truth is, we've never paid the true cost for this resource, and now that bill's coming due.

  • In the treaty is speaks of the redistribution of wealth (Giving US assets to African countries) as retribution. And that will help clean the environment HOW? And how is ceding our Sovereign powers to the UN supposed to help? Which if Obama signs this is an act of treason again the Sovereign States of America.

  • There is no treaty, just a framework for negotiations that the US is currently far from signing onto. There is no ceding of sovereign powers - if the Senate ratifies a negotiated agreement (we didn't last time) and the President signs it, we'll be obligated to follow it, of course. And we're not talking about "retribution". The current framework offers (as an inducement to sign) a pledge to raise living standards in currently undeveloped countries by sharing better, more energy-efficient tech.

  • The Copenhagen Climate treaty is a danger to freedom and should be stopped. These are global elitists, they won't be giving up any of their comforts while the rest of us lose nearly if not all we have.

  • The greatest danger to your freedom is the destabilization of the climate that will come about if we don't come to a serious binding international agreement to limit global greenhouse gas emissions now.

Elitism is insisting we can go on growing fossil fuel-based consumer economies at the expense of our future. A planet that may be 5 or 6 degrees warmer by 2050 won't be comfortable for anyone; and no "elite" will be able to escape the consequences of inaction.

  • THERE IS NO COPENHAGEN TREATY.

The "treaty" that keeps being referred to is a 180-page stream-of-consciousness brainstorming session. It contains virtually every conceivable option and alternative, from the pragmatic to the absurd.

Stop cherry-picking ambiguous parts of the document and parading them around as though they're the treaty! The very negotiators have said that anything that comes out of Copenhagen will be completely decentralized!

  • Decentralized? So fuckin what? Is that suppose to make it a good thing. Cherry picking ambiguous parts? Well lets pick the main part. Global Carbon Tax. Meaning a tax on every aspect of life all the while the US dollar slips closer and closer to its inevitable demise. Whether you believe in this Global Warming theory or not you still have to see that this isn't how you fix it. What do think this is actually gonna do to our country and world? Nothing is absurd. That's the point

  • A carbon tax is the only way to account in the marketplace for the true cost of what corporations are "externalizing" into the environment on a global scale, and if we proceed with business as usual, without accounting for that cost, there won't be a world left for us to exploit. The economy won't matter, the dollar won't matter. Nothing will matter except how to survive on a hot, dry, ice-free planet with acidic lifeless oceans, shrinking food supplies, and a destabilized climate.

  • Ha! Your a dumbass dude. And to whom is your great Carbon tax paid to? The earth? God? Who collects this toll? The Globalist Bankers thats who. The very same muthafuckas that set this con game in motion to begin with. Again, 1st it was the global cooling threat in the 70', then aerosols and the ozone layer in the 80's, Then Global warming in the 90's, now its climate change which is as vague as it gets. What a hustle. Create an artifiicial problem then get paid for it. Truly brilliant.

  • Again, you're garbling the science; no one's going to take you seriously unless you can discredit the underlying science. In the 70s, some climatologists speculated on the possibility of a new ice age. Further research data indicated that wasn't a concern, and most scientists did not take it seriously. Chlorofluorocarbon buildup, responsible for ozone depletion, was stopped by the Montreal Protocol in the 90s, a global agreement - and that's what needs to happen now regarding global warming.

  • Look, your missing the point. Your forgetting that the world was told that there a was gapping hole in the ozone layer which a ball faced lie just like this global warming theory. Im not saying we don't have any impact on the earth but it far less than what they would lead you to believe. What you don't get is that there's a reason they stopped calling it global warming in exchange for climate change. Also, if u don't think chemtrails and HAARP have an effect on the temp you are sadly mistaken

  • You're wrong. Even a casual examination of the science would tell you so. The depletion of the ozone layer wasn't "faked" for some bizarre unspecified nefarious purpose; and the international treaty that has been ratified by almost every country on earth has managed to bring CFCs under control. The CFC industry objected adamantly, but rational people everywhere acknowledge the risk of permitting continued use of these substances, and they were banned. HAARP and chemtrails? No such consensus.

  • And by the way that's cute. How you can comment on 1 part but completely skip over the Club of Rome qoute. Nice! Again, its about agenda.

  • Because it's not worth commenting on. The Club of Rome is a small think tank; to characterize them as some sort of cabal with global reach is ludicrous.

  • Ludicrous??? The Club of Rome is Rockefellar Family funded institution. The same Rockefellars that are backed by the Rothschild Family and the Black Nobility of Europe who own the Bank of England who owns our very own Federal Reserve as well as many other central banks. Like I said, who deserved to get paid for these manufactured from thin air Carbon Credits? You dismiss the Club of Rome's influence on this subject yet you damn near quoted them verbatim in you Carbon tax marketplace explanation.

  • Yep, ludicrous. Laughable. Silly. A kind of wet dream for the terminally gullible. The rational response to a global threat is an international agreement that will alter our behavior, that will put the brakes on an unsustainable way of living on a finite planet and head us in a direction that has a future. Accurately and fairly accounting for the damage carbon is wreaking on our atmosphere is the best idea going. If you've got some other mechanism in mind, I'd be happy to hear about it.

  • "For we are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies primarily on covert means for expanding its sphere of influence. On infiltration instead of invasion, on subversion instead of elections, on intimidation instead of free choice... It is a system which has conscripted vast human and material resources into the building of a tightly knit, highly efficient machine that combines military, diplomatic, intelligence, economic, scientific and political operations".

  • Kennedy was talking (in 1961) about communism, which, as it turned out, while certainly ruthless, was not a monolithic conspiracy. Nor was it run by the Rockefellers, the Rothschilds, or the Black Nobility of Europe. Your point?

  • Are you kidding? 1st off Communism, is not a person or a people. Unlike what you have been taught, Communism is nothing more than a social ideology like Capatalism, not a monolithic and rutthless conspiracy as he stated. He finished that speech by stating he was attempting to warn the american people. Well by 1961 the country was already fully aware of this so called evil "Communism". And are u serious? Communist Russia and Lenin were funded by the British Arm of the Rothchilds Family.

  • Yeah ludicrous huh? Wet dream for the terminally gullible, huh? Is that right? Well who exactly do you think John F. Kennedy was talking about when he stated the quote below. Who? And I'm being serious. So who? Oh yeah, my bad, he must of been just as gullible as the rest of us too, huh? Or was he joking?

  • For some reason u seem to think that if enough people agree on something that it must be true despite the fact that history has proven this to be one of the most foolish of ideas. Depletion and a gapping hole in the ozone are not the same my friend. The public was told there was a massive HOLE. That's fact. For example do u really think the car industry can't do any better than a hybrid? We have been lead in this direction so that an inevitable solution of "Global Governance" could be instituted

  • Good movie !!!
