home projector

im working on a mini projector right now using an mp3/mp4 player, macro lens, and a mirror. so far, so good. its for camping trips. ill make a video. let me post it as a video response sometime. the media player is Archos 3 vision mp3 player.

This arrangement will give following problems:

1. Inverted projection

2. Blur projection on the corners

I have some good experience with this specific type of projector. If using a crt tv, take off the back, and cut the green and yellow cords in half. Then, Connect them the other way (Green in, yellow out, yellow in, green out.) You shouldn't use a mirror with a crt tv because you would have to turn it upside down and then the colors would go crazy. As for the edges, I'm looking for an answer as well. Maybe a really long box?

1) turn your TV set upside down, so top is bottom and right is left. easy.

2) replace the one lens mount with a true blow up lens. for a wider coverage, choose one from a old 5x7" one , not 24x36mm ;-)

You DO know that the projected image will be upside down and backwards using the setup in your video, and that the image sharpness and brightness will be severely degraded because a fresnel lens is not a perfect lens.

I've experiemented with this and the problem is that the image is flipped. You can use a mirror image but then you lose brightness and picture quality. It's just not good enough, I'm afraid, though promising as it may be.

I thought of this idea 10 years ago. The image is flipped. If you turn your TV upside down, it's like a mirror. I have tried methods using mirrors but then you lose quality and light. Solutions: rear projecting onto a sheet (and you need a LARGE room). Overall, it's a great concept in theory but in execution, I've never been able to make it work. Oh well...

Hey paterk30,

So that you don't loose quality and light with the mirror, you mustuse a front surface mirror and not some bathroom mirror.

Also, to gain back some of the light, you have to construct a silver screen so that light is reflected back. I use this projector every day and it works like a charm. I'm even selling the product on ebay France. Oh by tha way, the lens must be high quality and these flimsy plastic lenses that are found for less than a dollar. Hard acrylic is the way to go.
