  • the label jazz gives the player to do what he wants to do and make a noise round a perfectly good piece of music even brass band keeps it better then this

  • Just passing by.Heard the Fab in Jazz.Good.

  • I got Doug's cd a year ago and it's amazing - all his arrangements transcribed, including this. He really is a master - I've learnt alot from him

  • This is absolutely beautiful!!

  • Very nice, loved it!

  • Superb!

  • I loved this. Im not one to cry, but the first time I heard this, i had a couple of tears roll down. This song is so beautiful, and your verision captures the sorrow of a young girl running away from home. Bravo! You are a true musical genius. Thank you for letting the world know Music is Beautiful, and not an image.

  • I love this!!!!

  • I have subscribed, now I want the transcriptions!!1 yum yum!!!!!

  • I'm not a jazz expert, but Doug McKenzie's respect for the original version reminds me of Jacques Loussier's splendid renditions of classical masterpieces. Whoever wrote "no timing" doesn't know the meaning of the word "rubato", and whoever wrote "no groove" probably listens only to drum'n'bass. This is jazz, played with great rhythmical confidence, what more can be asked from such a delicate rendition of an immortal slow love ballad?

  • That was a delight, a real pleasure, thankyou. And maybe it proves that good songwriting will withstand many different interpretations/ treatments. Bravo - so, so good.

  • Is this tune written by The Beatles?

  • yes, it's a mccartney

  • Excellent!

He's got the same piano as me and sadly plays it much better then I do.

    Thanks for the inspiration.

I enjoyed your playing and happily prevented any judgement getting in the way.

    Ahem.

  • You' ve got it all! good work. Keep it coming.

  • you have good knowledge of harmonies but no timing and no groove, both qualities that are very important for a jazz pianist. work on that, it will improve your sound loads.

  • Listen again and this time until the end please....If you still feel no timing and no groove, leave the music and try painting !!!

  • You've got to be joking...

  • no groove where?

  • ahh, dont be a hater,

    this is great.

  • 5chr4pp.. you're so absolutely right.

  • I have no doubt this guy is way better than you, he is way better than me and I have been playing pro for 30 years.

  • he certainly is, no doubt about that

  • wonderfull, you moved me .

  • Sounds really cool!!! Congratulations.....

You remind me of a guy from New Orleans that sounds like Brad Mehldau meets Keith Jarrett Trio. It's called True Stories and you can get it on iTunes. You can also look it up under Jesse Boyd Trio.

  • This is great!

  • Genius!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

  • Very creative, great job.

  • thank you very much. It's a real pleasure to listen that music.Sorry,i'm french and my commentary is not representative of my pleasure.

  • i love the jazz

  • Hi.

Where do you get your backing tracks from?

Ive found a couple of internet sites that sell them but they dont tend to have that "lazy" laid back sound that yours have?

I need every help i can get to mask my poor piano playing!!

    Alan L

  • Very nice!

  • i wish the left had had a better up beat but this is a really good piece played from very good hands. thanks for sharing, it makes me think of my past...

  • thank you for sharing this

  • is that the yamaha cp300?

  • It is a Yamaha P-250 - the forerunner of the Cp300 - it uses the same samples

  • Hey im curious. What do u call that piano? It really gives off a nice tone for jazz music. Does it work exactly like the traditional piano? Tone touch and pedal?

  • Pretty cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I just bookmarked your page. Thank you so much for contributing to our knowledge of jazz. I find your site to be excellently organized and extremely informative.

  • nice solo piano version of she's leaving home. if you haven't heard Brad Mehldau's version of this, check it out

  • Bravo! Bravo!

  • there we go,another great pianist, your touch on the piano is great~keep up the good work!!!

  • That short chord progression right around 1:56 sound like that in the 1980's song "Lean on Me." A little humerous.

  • Excellent. Puts my poor piano skills to shame :).

  • Aha! A Bill Evans fan! Superb... thanks.

  • The pianist really has a long fingers..He could play more than an octave comfortably from what i see....towards the end...C to E at 3.38

  • Outstanding arrangement.

  • god i wish i could play like you. envy and awe abounds....

  • Sounds great, keep up the good work. (Is this a Beatles song?) Too bad I couldn't find the midi or leadsheet from your website, I must be blind.

  • This song has moved me to tears, its really awesome. Keep doing what you're doing man! Wish i could be as amazing as you. :D

  • Great job. This song sounds great in jazz form. I wish I could play like that.

  • who u playing? beautiful!

  • Beautiful, just beautiful! Thank you.

  • Hot damn, the Garland voicings and brushes on the skins around the 2 minute mark threw me into a tizzy! Dare I say that I like this version better than the original? I'm scared to think what you do with a bit of Steely Dan. Deacon Blues comes to mind.

  • brings tears to my eyes... very beautiful!

  • Stunning! let's see more

  • unreal!!!!

  • bravo man!!! Show us more!!!

    I love jazz :D

I have my own weired style of music though, using chords that don't exist XD

This only happens because i make music from what i imagine but i cant read or write it :(

  • Good enough to be the ambiance for an upscale restaurant, preferably with a the player in a tux.

  • This is BEAUTIFUL!!!!LOve it man keep the masterpeices coming!

  • Wish you could do slower breakdowns (tutorial, etc.) of your arrangements, which are great!

  • wow

  • super! piękny utwór> good job< ;)

  • Loved it. I wish I could read the lettering a bit easier, but it's great to just close your eyes and let it soak into you. Good Job!

  • Beautiful.

  • lovely

  • Espectacular lección. Arrechísima. Très bien.

  • Great use of the whole tone!

  • man!! that's so relaxing !! cool!!

  • out of curiousity, do you think of your right hand as upper structures / upper structure triads in your voicings?

and in terms of your lines, are you mainly just feeling it? or are u more thinking scale vs chord usage with passing tones? just because u seem to be very detailed in terms of your thoughts (the explanations)

    regardless, sounds great as usual

  • jasdf

  • fantastic!

  • With Feeling....excellent!

  • Excellent, please post some more! Very tastefully done!

  • Just beautiful. Also, thank you for sharing the midi file and lead sheet.

  • Breathtaking my friend

    your hands are gold

  • Hello,

I loved this so much I used it as the background music to my video preview of an animated Beatles film I'm completing! Thanks so much!

  • I have read all the comments about your playing and agree with all.

Did I mention that I remembered the name Eumir Deodato ( Theme from 2001, etc.) when we arrived home.

A longtime fan from the Gold Coast.

  • BRAVO!!!

  • this sounds like something on Mr. Rogers neigborhood, no offence, i still really enjoyed it. VER NICE!

  • FYI: Mr Rogers was an accomplished pianist. His wife is a classical pianist and the pianist for the program was incomprable Johnny Costa - the closest you could get to Art Tatum. Your comment is an extreme compliment for this pianist.

  • wow i ddint know that hahahhaha.

  • awesome.

  • I CAN'T SPEAK!!! I AM SPELLBOUND! That was sooo amazing that I can't speak!!

  • Nice touch!

  • Your notes are very guiding i have to admit i wish all such videos were like yours!Keep up the good work!

  • A Yamaha P-250, i also have one - a superb piano.

  • I wish I could play jazz piano...I can play, but not jazz, it's so beautiful and enchanting

  • very nice...

  • Buddy, you are one of the Best at all!

  • realy nice!you've been inspired me

  • Nice -- which Yamaha keyboard is that? I own the Yamaha P250 and although it's quite a drag to lug to gigs, it's worth it for the great sounds and key action.

  • That was a superb number. Very nice playing.

  • awsome

  • very nice!!

  • Fantastic. Loved it. Great melodies. Will take a note of all the info you wrote and try to learn a thing or two.

  • very good

  • Extremely nice.

  • excellent stuff!

  • nice man. I try to emulate Oscar Peterson more, but you have some great ideas there. I especially like your block chording technique. you have a very refined and professional sound, which I find to be very tasteful. I also really like how you play ballads - I know from that I have a lot of difficulty taking my time, but you have the reserve to do so, and it sounds great. Post more, preferably up tempo stuff. Great job!

  • Yeah agree with JT, Doug is an experienced player...you can so tell. A good one here.....so tastefull. check our his site .

  • Nice job, maybe if you do it again, have thicker letters the compression messes with them a bit

  • Jazz is the best

  • That was very good! I liked how you had sugesstions on how to play it as the video was going. How long have you been playing?

  • that was really nice! i liked it =]

  • That sounds great. Really tasteful improvising. Like the Red Garland influences in the improvisation. You also have some nice Bill Evans-like ideas in the beginning. Really nice. Post more!
