Mine does that with the single basket filter in as well. The Gaggia shop doesn't know why, but the portafilter is different on my machine compared to theirs... Theirs doesn't leak.
Have heard that some people got coffee spewing out if they didn't use the rubber bit they give you for 'perfect crema' - which I thought was just for use with the coffee in pods.
Think I'll get a classic, although I've heard the newer ones also spit coffee out from time to time.
I returned the machine the next day and now it's out of stock everywhere at the price i paid. I had tightened the handle yeah. i didnt have the perfect crema rubber thing in, but presumed that shouldnt have made a difference? I tried to make a number of shots and the same thing kept happening. Bought it to replace my original gaggia cubika as im not getting good crema on my espressos. Still on the lookout for a new machine at a good price. may consider the classic.

Have you made sure the handles on correctly? I have the same machine and it only does this when it's not connected properly

portafilter handle wasn't in properly, takes a bit of effort the first time. Happened to me on my first go.
