I bought a kit at an estate sale yesterday. It was still sealed. Looks like it was made in the late 60's or early 70's. In this day and age, I wonder if I will get a visit from the cops if actually try to use it.
The Police may not show up, but the Fire Department might. On the 4th of July I fired it up to fog the yard and ditches for the evening's activities. A local FD vehicle was going down the highway about 2 miles away and saw all of the fog....they thought my house was on fire. Didn't believe all of that "smoke" could come out of a mower, so I gave them a quick demo. One of them mentioned something about how much the department had spent on a commercial smoke machine used for training..
There's nothing to it really. Years ago, there were a few companies that sold kits like this. It's simply a small tank mounted up on the handlebars with a hose running to a ball valve. A couple of pipe nipples and an elbow lead from the valve to the muffler. One of the pipe nipples goes into a hole drilled in the top of the muffler. The nipple was set in far enough so that it's almost bottomed out against the muffler's lower side. Then it was welded in place. The valve is set to adjust the flow.
....seems legit.
