  • String theory proposes there could be 11 dimensions. It has never been observed, nor have other Universes. These are simply mathematical theories. As for other galaxies, yes, there are hundreds of billions of them and yes there is a chance that life exists elsewhere in our universe.

However, I must restate. Time as far as we're concerned is meaningless outside of our universe. To say "before the big bang" is to say "what's north of the north pole."

All we definitively KNOW is our universe

  • As far as our universe is concerned there is no such thing as "before" the big bang. It's a meaningless statement considering time as we know it has only existed since the beginning of our universe.

  • thank you this!

  • "and if one you prove to me that everything just popped into existance then i will belive it my friend. " im quite sure no scientific paper has ever suggested that anything popped into existence...

your request shows your lack of understand aswell...

nothing was created.... everything that is ... was there...

"I am in no way in connection with any of the religions but do believe in a creator." this sounds like an attempt to prevent dismantling of your beliefs...

    your thoughts?

  • Your view points they may be, but basing your view points on a lie(something coming out of nothing)...aka over simplifing the Big Bang theory is not a view that most people will accept. Have you read about the Big Bang and abiogenesis? Have you seriously read and understood what shit said there. Where in the heck does it mentions "something coming out of nothing?" No where. So again, which theory says that something comes out of nothing?

  • You're in no way an agnostic, you are a deist. First of all, I've just spent the last 2 comments explaining how NO THEORY says that something came out of nothing and ALL YOU MANAGED TO UNDERSTAND FROM THIS is that something came out of nothing. Big Bang theory: A singularity expanding into the known Universe. The energy formed quarks, which formed protons and neutrons, which formed atoms and bla bla bla. Life, abiogenesis. Look it up on wikipedia. Evolution, same go on wikipedia.

  • All you can do is MAKE ASSUMPTIONS of what might be in that box, same thing applies to the Big Bang and before that, you can only make assupmtion has of what triggered the Big Bang or what was Before the Big Bang. You can only guess, and there' s a 100% chance you'll be wrong. Without evidence, we'll never know for sure what was before the Big Bang. There are hipothesis tho, for e.g. another Universe collapsing forming that Singularity, but again we need to research more before we know for sure.

  • You say it yourself that a God exists "You have to admit your self that something must have all ways have existance to create everything."(Not the God of the bible of course, God has in the name of the entity you're suggesting to exist). You're far from being an agnostic. You use the same arguments theists use: "we don't know it, so a God must've done it!". Here's a box. Without opening it can you say what's inside the box? Of course not(continued)

  • WE DON'T KNOW! One simple answer to a complex question. NO IDEA. You're basically saying "Oh well I have no idea what happened before the Big Bang but since we don't know it God must've done it". It's an UNKOWN that somewhere in the future it will become a known fact, but until then just making assumptions won't help. You're not agnostic, agnosticism is a form of skepticism that holds that the existence of God CANNOT BE LOGICALLY PROVED OR DISPROVED. You basically imply "God exists" (Continued)

  • "its make sense unless disprves "

NO! Anything you claim is false until you provide evidence.

"but if sometihng sense and science has not disproved then it doesnt make it possible."

Again, you can claim that space bunnies are going to murder us, but that doesn't mean it's right. You need to provide evidence. IN science, you can claim anything, but has long has you don't provide evidence for that claim, it's considered Bullshit. Can you provide evidence for a creator?

  • "otihng cant make sometihng"

I wonder, what theory does say that something came out of nothing?

  • So... This is what Satan's Bible sounds like.

  • Fuck off christian.

  • I'm not Christian, I worship Osiris.

You better hope your heart doesn't weigh more than the Feather of Virtue when you stand in judgment before Osiris, or Apip will tear your soul a new ass hole!

  • The flying paghetti monster damns you!

  • I remember when Big Bird took that challenge... he passed so im not scared...

  • There was so much that Darwin did not know (Mendelian genetics, the structure of DNA, ring species, etc) and yet with what he did know he came up with a theory that has stood the test of time. There have been minor tweaks and enhancements, but they build upon his theory rather than demolishing it.

Everything a rational person would need to decide that creationists are morons is in Origin. You don't need Dawkins, only Darwin. Dawkins is a more compelling writer, though.

  • I don't want to piss on your parade as I really enjoy your videos, but do you realise that there is already a free audio book at librivox(dot)org/the-origin-of-species-by-charles-darwin/ ? They do loads of books in the public domain. This vid actually reminded me to add The Origin to my list of books to add to my iPod.

  • maybe this is for him personally as much as a scheme to have a side income.

It might be an enjoyable book to read for people into the subject and he may think, why not read it to others.

I just dont why people on here care enough to point any negatives out. I doubt he thinks what he is doing is something original. Insulting even to think that.

  • @waltermh111

"might", "maybe", "I doubt"...that's quite a bit of idle speculation. Was there a point?

He might not know there's a free version out there, maybe he'll be pleased (or not) to find out, he might want to read another of Darwin's books that librivox hasn't done yet, and maybe he'd contribute it to them to reach a larger audience.

See, I can do idle speculation too.

  • yeah, but walter was a lot closer to the mark.

    ;D

I am aware of the librivox site (and/or similar projects), which along with Nick Gisburne (Gisburne2000) was the inspiration.

I'm also cocky enough to think that some people who might not have otherwise, will listen to it just because it's me.

I've never claimed to not suffer from delusions of grandeur.

But I DO plan on living for a very long time.

This (entire project) is hopefully just a warmup exercise.

  • "yeah, but walter was a lot closer to the mark."

    Fair dos. My bad.

"I am aware of the librivox site"

Walter seems to think it insulting I asked about this, so I just want to say that no insult was intended. It's just something I never really considered 'til recently (no idea why, seems so obvious really), so I didn't assume you must know. Always worth asking the question, I think.

  • null sweat, chummer!

    ;D

  • wow, what a come back.

Except that you fail in the respect that you insult his intelligence with your speculation on multiple levels. That he cant figure out that a public domain book might already have an audio version or that hes wasting his time because this isnt of interest to you.

You were no more constructive with your OP then we are by continueing this conversation, so i said my peace and will stop, you can continue on if you cant help yourself.

  • "you can continue on if you cant help yourself"

Now, there's a challenge if ever I saw one, but I really can't be arsed to argue the toss with you.

  • great idea, ape. fav'd

  • much obliged!

  • Incredible! This video cured my insomnia!

  • lol, right on.

    Glad to be of service.

  • I don't know, I prefer to read the book than listen, but you got a nice book reading voice. You should do it professionally.

  • thanks and thanks!

  • What a wonderful idea, and your reading is great. Nicely done, sir. Have a beer on me.

  • thank ya much, don't mind if I do!

  • I would suggest a slideshow going on for the video version, even if maybe 10 or so slides

  • note the license!

  • Thanks for reading my version of the Bible!

  • thanks, BUT....

I know you mean it in a tongue-in-cheek fashion, but there are some fucktards who actually like to throw that phrase around in a pejorative sense ("evolution is your religion" etc.). Which is kinda funny in its own right (it seems to implicitly say 'religion = bad')...

Anyway... I'm not going to tell you "don't use that phrase", but maybe be careful with it.

    Or not.

    ;D

  • Nice idea. But, you have too much audible breathing and lip smacking.

  • yeah, I threw this together a little TOO quickly. I'll be more careful next time.

    :D

  • RabidApe - You should read the Bible but make small changes within the reading. It could make for some great comedy.

  • Damn... I was so not going to be able to concentrate and listen to this.... but I was captivated within 3 minutes..... *suckered!* =o)

  • Good. i liked that. better than i read it, think i need to slow down n take it in a bit more. i thought he talked a bit strange in the book but i hear now, obviously not lol.

  • I've already read it so I won't be listening, but cool idea. What ever happened to you're bible reading videos?

Also, I've never heard archipelago pronounced quite like that.

  • "What ever happened to you're bible reading videos?"

lol, same thing that happened when I tried to just read it IRL. It got REALLY boring!

I was also doing the RSV on recommendation from someone, but I think that might technically be copyrighted.

Also, in my experience, there are a fair number of people who think anything other than the KJV isn't "the real Bible".

I might do just the four Gospels, that would be fun.

  • I watched this video with a title something akin to "A video that atheists cannot finish". It was a 20 minute proselytizing video. Reading the bible all the way through is like chopping down a redwood with an axe. Sure you've accomplished something most people haven't....but what's the point?

  • re: "archipelago"

yeah.... I think I'll have to do a version 2.0 with pronunciation corrections eventually....

    ;D

  • Good, but I think reading certain excerpts from this and other books like The Selfish Gene would attract more viewers/listeners. Also I think the audio of this has been uploaded already.

Glad you're posting again! May the great FSM shine down upon you from his Ramen packet in the sky during your calculus exam.

  • I would LOVE to do the Selfish Gene, but it's not public domain yet...

  • and thanks, btw.

I'm done with calc for the semester, I probably have a B.

  • Are you going to make another part to your answers video?

  • yeah, it's already done.

It's uploading right now. The file ended up being over a gig though, so it's going slow.. I actually don't know if it will finish before YT goes into maintenance mode...

If it does, I'll just downconvert the file and upload tonight/tomorrow....

Warning - I don't think this one will be as entertaining, I think I was too tired or something... I dunno - it didn't "feel" as good as the first one...

  • omg! this is fuc*ing awesome!

  • I don't blame anyone for believing me, but William Jennings Bryan (That monster who challenged a science teacher teaching evolution) was my grandmother's second cousin. My side of the family lived on a farm a few miles from the small Nebraska town Douglas, which was an hour's drive from Lincoln. I don't think they mixed very well with his side. I think it's kewl that I am way on the opposite side of Bryan. They said that he did little other than talk down science, even when the family gathered.

  • Why is everyone suddenly trying to earn money on YouTube??

  • to spend more time on YouTube?

  • I cant buy you a beer, but if you're ever near Seattle, I'll totally smoke you out.

  • haHA!!!!

    duly noted!

  • This would be better with english subtitles so can read + hear.

  • duly noted. I think YT has that functionality.

    Watch this space.

(I'll be done w the semester within 72 hours)

  • you should do this with the whole book dude.

  • read the description!!!!

    ;D

  • cool thanks

  • Nice video mate I've always felt honored to have been born in the same town as Charles Darwin :)

Shrewsbury is a great place :D

  • Yes....YES....YEEEEESSSSSHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA

*Cough* I'll be sure to contribute when I have more money. *ish poor*

  • I already read the whole book :P

  • Thank you for doing this. I frankly can't be bothered to describe in detail the extent of my gratitude, but make it be known that it is a great deal.

  • Duly noted. You are very very welcome.

  • Hey, RA, thanks for doing this. I understand the need for some help with finances. And unlike VFX, you are not doing anything under false pretenses. You offer to record a text in exchange for a voluntary modest contribution. No false bait about a children's hospital or evangelizing the world.

All the best in your studies!

  • My sentiments exactly.

    Thanks so much.

  • Record when you want to, if you don't then don't. Taking money for something like this comes off bad, I'm not sure why. This is something I'd expect someone to do because they want to, not because they thought they could get some cash over the net. No offense bro, but if I'm paying that amount of cash I want audio book quality reading. If the amount is to help you. . . venomfangx you ain't. Enjoyed the intro.

  • Yeah...

But I don't see it as too different from a guy sitting on a corner playing guitar with his case open for passersby to drop change into.

Nothing to be necessarily proud of, but not ashamed of either, I don't think.

You can get the tracks whether you pay for them or not.

are you saying this isn't audio book quality...? ;D

I hope you continue to enjoy them regardless.

  • I support asking for donations for contributions to society

The guy saying he would just pay for an audio book should think of this a different way

Hes paying for all the work you do with video uploads from other places and the making of your own videos. Many people believe those are worth something to them and thats what they are supporting, not just a single reading

I wish you luck. Life is tough and we all gotta find our own way to survive. The only sure wrong way is by hurting others

  • thank you for the clarification.

    Much appreciated!

  • It's not too different from the guy on the corner, I agree with that. And I am saying it ain't audio book quality! :-)

That's why I typed I'm not sure why what you were asking was rubbing me the wrong way. I guess it's because you are asking cash for hobby work when you still have a place, electricity, a comp, a cam, etc. when the stereotypical guy on the corner is (assumed) homeless or much more destitute appearing than you are.

Again I did enjoy it and love your vids Rabidape.

  • Don't listen to the fags who bitch and complain about quality.

The voice work is just as good as professional audio books albeit the windscreen to get rid of the sound of your breath.

  • hmmmm.... maybe I have some editing to do....

I DID use a pop filter....

    ;P

I'll be more careful next time.

  • thanks!

    you own a 1st edition?

  • no, but it's public domain.

    I found it at talkorigins

  • Oh, goody!! I always heard this read like a novel, and never thought of renting it when at library, (tho in the bible belt there probably is not a copy for a hundred miles). Thanks for this....please read entire book on vids (at your leisure of course) and I will be profoundly grateful...!!

  • thanks!

    [check the description!!!]

    ;D

  • awesome, man. You do read very well, in my opinion.

  • thanks!

    [check the description!!!]

    ;D

  • this is funny... you have an add that leads to a creationist propaganda page, giving away a free booklet named "creation or Evolution"...

there is something REALLY wrong with youtube...

  • Scary :/

  • I can't believe you made it through that whole chapter without one slip up or mistake!

  • Good luck with this. I've owned the book for over a year. I can't bring myself to read it. I'd help out with a project like this but I'm a college student. My money goes to boring textbooks.

  • Last statement withdrawn. 3.60 CAD (3.00 USD) to you sir.

  • w000t!

    muchos gracias!

  • *coughs*

    "muchas" is the correct way...

  • I stand corrected!

I live in Texas, I should know better!

  • Great reading, great book, great project. I hope you make it to the end!

  • do you do requests? if i tell you chapters from "rang and dales pharmacology" could you read them? it would make my revision easier ;-)

  • I can be bought. :P

  • I got it for free, not because I'm a cheapskate but because I can hardly afford my bills. Sorry RA. But thanks for the recording.

  • lol

no hard feelings, I know how it goes!

    yay Creative Commons!!

  • Haha, did you start doing coke or something, Ape? You are way too excited lately.

  • I got sick a while back, and I think all the time I was spending at home kinda sucked me back into the 'Tubes.....

  • Oh, sorry to hear that man. Well it's good to have you back for sure... I don't know... I get tired of the Amazing Atheist and fakesagan sometimes, they entertain me but the "e-fighting" with other YouTube atheists gets a bit ridiculous/childish.

  • very dry but still good

  • Thanks rabidape! really cool that you're investing so much time in reading this for the audiance!

  • thanks!

  • haha, no way you're gonna finish this. I have the audio of the Origin of Species and it's something like 20 hours worth of content. 20 hours divided into 10 minute videos, you're gonna have yourself some 120 videos, RA!

  • I think I can do a chapter at a time!

  • Every cool idea.

  • I actually got the idea from Nick Gisburne..... but I don't think he finished it, to the best of my knowledge.

and the book is public domain.... :P

    (I still love you, Nick!)

  • "I don't believe your voice is interesting enough for this RabidApe"

Yeah, could you make Darwin's voice sound like the tasmanian devil or sing all of the Origin in a jaunty tenor? Maybe you could even punctuate each paragraph with a rockin guitar solo and heavy metal screaming. That should spice things up.

  • Bravo ;-) hats off in respect ;-)

  • I thought it was really good. I like the part where you say "vegetable kingdom". I want to live there.

  • lol

Yeah, I think it's on the other side of the Mushroom Kingdom....

    ;P

  • Wow. This is all so fammiliar today, but the concept of the time must have been so ground breaking. I can't wait to hear more!

  • w00t! Go RA!

  • OMG Rabid Ape. Thank you so much!!!!!!!!

If I had paypal I would send you a dollar or more for your contribution. Thnx a bunch this shall be a awesome series. You seriously rock dude.

  • a credit card is fine, too!

  • thats crazy, darwin sounds just like rabidape. what a coincidence.

  • lmao

  • I don't believe your voice is interesting enough for this RabidApe.. Sorry..

  • fair enough.

    I chose to go w/"clarity".

    ;D

  • haha, let's go with clarity then xD
