It's got the nice dry, dark characteristics of an Irish Stout, but has more of a grain flavor to it. Oatmeal Stouts also have a much heavier mouth feel to them--almost chewy. They're kind of like a Guiness, but with more of a bread like graininess in the flavor.
Haha! Yeah man--the difference in taste between the all-can kits and the partial mash kits is quite significant. I think you going all grain will be the best decision you've made pertaining to acquiring the style beer you want to make, at least from my perceptions (I've never had a Ricker's Red). I'm quite excited to see how your future batches turn out!
