  • One o clock doo doo dooooo do doo!

  • @Chenoholic88 I remember the news show, it was called Newswatch and was staffed by students in the broadcast journalism program. When I was there I think it was at 11:00 PM?? and then moved to the evening.

  • Wow, I remember the old CBS network opening (0:16), and was surprised when they re-did it in 2000 (after merging the Mutual, Westwood and Viacom properties). The one they use now sounds like an orchestra version (similar to Mutual's opening), but uses CBS's tune.

  • man, WCBS has two stations. their current AM station, and an FM station which plays a lot of oldie but goodie music (mostly 70's and 80's). gives you a classic time trip when playing the FM station on vintage equipment. i have my 1978 Supre-Macy Flip-Card clock tuned to that station, so it plays that station when the alarm goes off.

you can look up WCBS FM on their HD radio channel.

  • The WAUB in Athens, Ohio is interesting. It operates in the AM broadcast band at 1340 khz. At sign-on, the announcer states its power as "effective radiated power". AM stations don't have ERP like FM stations do. AM stations authorized power isdefined as actual power into either the tower base or common point.

  • This is AWESOME!!!!!!!! Older radio jingles are fun to listen too!!!!!!

  • 1340 AM WJPF

News Radio Here in Southern IL

  • I'd like to find an MP3 of the slower-played version of the 1983-2000 CBS sounder which they used for sports.

  • That's the Sportscentral USA theme... I have that saved on a CD somewhere. I also know the unofficial archivist at Newsradio 88... that tends to help. -grins-

  • man, i'd love an 8 track copy of this

    5 stars!

  • There is a news radio 78 in chicago with traffic and weather on the 8's and also has CBS news.

  • WBBM Newsradio 78... Newsradio 590 WEEI and WTOP Newsradio 15... all have (or had in WEEI's case) all had essencially the same format in Chicago... Boston and Washington respectively... and for a while had the same sounders for Traffic.. headlines... etc

  • I used to have a NC-183. Good audio for a SW receiver with push pull 6V6s and afull range tone control. This model had all octal tubes and the D model had miniature tubes in the tuner section and different IF cans.

  • Awesome! I'm not sure if I allready commented on this or not, but I love that little jingle at 0:16 !

And you sound so awesome on the radio! Ever consider going back into the radio business?

  • I like that jingle too...they still use the same jingle but with a more modern orchestration.

I really enjoy the business I am in now and will stay there...although sometimes I do miss talking on the air there are so many positive things to what I do now.

  • Retrochad you have a great radio voice. I used to be a Mobile DJ doing weddings I had a great time doing it. And I am thinking about going to school for radio broadcasting. Also I like Southjk's voice too while I watch his videos too.

  • That was really great :)

  • Thanks spats! This was originally on a reel-to-reel tape and the old commercials at the end were always my favorite part to listen to.

  • npr news , lol, i can get that in long island but insted its broudcasted on an fm signal .why cant they only transmit 500watts in the day and 1000watts at night (i would think the other way around)

  • I'm not sure why the power levels were that way but indeed that was correct! Usually the daytime power is higher or it is the same day and night.

  • News 88 would come in so clear and steady during the night all the way up here in St. John's.

Rockin' American with Scott Shannon, that was even up here till Rock Dees replace him in 1988.

    Great radio jingles.

Thanks for the clips. Very clear sound.

  • btw, is that your radio? and if so what kind is it? looks very army like

  • Yes it is...this particular one is a civilian model but it may have been used in the military as well. It's a National receiver...I have a more detailed video of it in one of my other videos.

  • Very retro jingles. I really enjoyed your script, its very rare that radio stations actually provide their broadcasting frequency anymore. You have a great voice for radio!

  • Thanks! We had to read that script live every morning at the sign-on, 5:59 AM weekdays and Sundays and 6:00 AM Saturdays. There was a separate engineer out at the transmitter site who would have all the transmitters on a little before that. We still used carts, reel-to-reel and tube type equipment at that station but it began to be phased out over the years I worked there.

  • And is that Ernie Anderson announcing the Sears Commercial at 4:30?

  • @batterymaker Yes, that is the late Ernie Anderson v/o the Sears radio commercial ad.

  • I'll add that the blurb is just before your WOUB intro...

  • Okay, wtf was that blurb at 1:30?! :-)

  • This is actually how it went out on the air. It almost sounds like a reel-to-reel machine being manually cued up mixed with network news...then you can hear silence as the next religious program is cued up and starts. WSAI 1530 used to air paid religious programs all night back in the 90's.

  • my dad always listens to wcbs 880 am. heck i live in rhode island but i still get a signal to wcbs.

  • Mmmmm, Ovaltine.

  • What's the deal with Ovaltine? The jar is round... they should call it Roundtine!

  • lol, lol, true!
