We have that Jazz Scat voice and the guy that uses it in church service always take us by surprise and it is off putting b/c he uses it at the wrong time. I always have to repent b/c it is kind of hilarious. Sounds good here in this instance.

I know a lot of advanced theory but this kind of stuff is in a whole different realm IMO. You really gotta spend time listening and transcribing solos to really be able to play it, theres not really any harmonic rules that govern it.

@CountToBen Well there is always chromatic harmony which governs all music. But I agree you as far having skill to play like this. For me, I just play it safe and play simple pentatonic licks over which ever key they modulate to. Everyone once and awhile I add a flat or sharp 5, 9, 11, or 13. That's how you create jazzy runs in chromatic-harmonized music like this.
